The last book I bought was...
I remember watching the 50s movie of The Mysterious Island lots as a kid because we had it taped on VHS
Bonding time with my cousin is book shopping . He's the only person I know who reads more than me. Our grandparents raised fierce book dragons. RAWR.

I won a copy of Red Platoon: A True Story of American Valor from GR, and it arrived today. The author is my cousin's best friend and was named after my grandfather (Jack Clinton Gilbert). I saw him around when he was a little kid when I visited relatives over the summer.

The Diamond Conspiracy
Dogs: A New Understanding of Canine Origin, Behavior and Evolution

I listened to that thru Audible & enjoyed the series. Yes, it's massive, so sometimes it drags a bit, but I found myself wishing I had a print copy to go back & refer to some complicated bit of info that was relevant later, or figure out some plot twist. Great world building w/vast historical sweep nicely incorporated. I hope you enjoy it!
So this is very different for me because I am not really a comic/graphic novel for me but I just ordered:
Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files #5
and
Judge Dredd: America
I have always been interested in the Judge Dredd world and setting (I like crappy movies so loved Judge Dreed from 1995). After recently rewatching the much better Dredd with Karl Urban I looked into the comics and did some reading to find the best place to start to enter into the story of Judge Dredd and these were the ones that came up the most as the best place to start.
So now I am super excited to get them in the mail and dig in. I am not really into the whole superhero stuff. I find them to be much to overpowered and it takes away all the fun for me (like Thor being able to throw a monster that weighs half as much as earth, or Hulk holding up an entire mountain). That kind of stuff does nothing for me. So lets hope this goes well

I have a number of comics that were reprinted from the British comic. Most of them have brilliant Brian Bolland covers. I love Dredd.
My best friend and I came across a book sale fundraiser while we were out to lunch and I picked up some books that I am super pumped about:
Old Man's War
Maplecroft
The Magicians' Guild
Sailing to Sarantium
Ill Wind
Fool's Errand
Fool's Fate
Golden Fool

I thought so! Especially since the Tawny Man trilogy are all good hardcovers.

In the Company of Ogres
Infernal Devices
Heaven Cent
Demons Don't Dream
The Unlikely Ones
Enemies of Fortune
Callahan's Con (The Place, #2)
Cross-Currents
total about $8. Hoping it was more than worth it
Good hauls for both of you! Hybrid have you read and Robin Hobb. I picked up the faraeer trilogy at a book sale not long ago and look forward to it
Huzzah for the Hobbs Hybrid!

I bought The Watchmaker of Filigree Street on Kindle as it was £1.59 yesterday. Not sure it's my usual cup of tea but it looks interesting!
I'm going to aim to finally read some Hobb next month. I have 3 of her books, all look fantastic, yet I've never gotten to any of them.

I read Assassin's Apprentice a few years ago and have the second book sitting on my shelf waiting. I really recommend Hobb based even on one book. I loved the way she introduced the history of the world in each chapter. It was a unique way to do it and I really enjoyed the adventure.

I have been wanting to read her for a while and think that's what I'll start next after retribution falls.
Also,
My two Judge Dredd collections came in today! Super excited for them.

Today was a happy day.
When I was at school (maybe year 5/6?) I read some books from the school library. This was not unusual, i read lots of books from the library. However over the last couple of years, these particular books have been tickling the back of my mind. I couldn't remember the title, or author (great!), but i remembered they were dark, and a bit weird.
Recently I thought I might have found them on GoodReads, but really wasn't sure...I can't even remember what I searched for in order to find them... ANYWAYS today I was in my local Oxfam bookshop (man i love that place!) AND I FOUND THEM. YAY! Well i foudn the first two of the trilogy, they weren't really a bargain at £3.29 each but It's for charity annnnd i couldn't resist. I'm so happy, after Retribution Falls, I'm going to have to get them read. I hope they're not rubbish...

The Assassin's Blade, Temeraire, 3rd Assassin's Quest novel by Robin Hobb and American Gods - all £0.50 each :)
Just picked up fools fate and the Golden fool by Robin Hobb. Just finished Assassins apprentice and absolutely lobed it. So now have the faraeer trilogy and the tawny man trilogy and after taking my first foray into Discworld with The Color of Magic I plan on going on a big Hobb run.
Also grab Desert Spear by Peter V Brett. So that I have the first three when I start the Demon Cycle

Raven, I love Frost!
And if I ever get stranded in the wilderness, I'll text you pictures of berries so you can tell me which ones are poisonous. :)

I added three books to my collection recently:

Edgelands by Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts
Landmarks by Robert Macfarlane
Fragile Things: Short Fictions & Wonders by Neil Gaiman (signed)
Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman (signed)
The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Non-fiction by Neil Gaiman (signed)

Ha, I just grab the books with interesting sounding names (and pretty covers) and it sometimes works out
That's how my wife book shops for me for birthday/Xmas gifts. She knows I like SFF and knows for the most part what books I have. I have however taught her how to check and make sure she is buying book #1 in a series of she goes off the cover after one Xmas of getting a few second and third books in a series that I had to go out and get the first book a for. That dis lead me to John Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen series which is now one of my favourites and the final book is one of my most anticipated.
The Healing in the Vine, cost a little second hand, but with my Tamora Pierce's I want to get particular editions. This was still cheaper than I last saw a copy for a few months though :)
How To Crochet: A Complete Guide for Absolute Beginners - with average skill I can knit, I am also learning to spin using a drop spindle. Now I want to learn to crochet so that I can use all my slightly random old wools to make granny squares, so that when I want to start a new knitting project I don't feel bad about buying a new wool!

I learned how to crochet granny squares a year or two ago. I'm not sure if I still remember, though! I can do very basic knitting. 3D objects are beyond me, but I really want a Jayne hat. Maybe I'll get my knitting teacher-neighbor to make it for me.
