R12: Team #3 ~ Insomniacs Who Love to Read
LOLI enjoyed all of them Rachel, depends on your mood I guess, apart from the sweat.
JnF is a bit flaky but fun which might be perfect for the Gym :)
Sandra wrote: "That is one of the good Breeds books Cheryl, enjoy!"It has been on my bookshelf forever. I'm glad to have a chance to read it.
I don't know what I'm going to read for this. Cat shifters don't at all fit in with my reading plan and challenges right now.
I'm just over 80% finished
and Jane is in hell'va lot of trouble. This is so good! Don't want it to end!

Jane has certainly grown from the insecure loner on her bike she used to be to a woman fully aware of her power as The Enforcer and with a house and a closet full of girlie clothes.
Leo, head vamp of New Orleans and the south west except for Florida, has a problem, several problems really, and Jane is expected to deliver. Upgrade security for the Mithran Council House in preparation for the European Council visit in a few months, oversee Leo's new house being rebuilt after it was destroyed in the previous book, find the Iron Stake of Golgotha (which can control all Mithrans everywhere), stop Satan's Three (two of them Gregorie's siblings and the third just as dangerous) and find out what the invisible thing is, that keeps attacking her.
Really funny scenes of Jane learning to swordfight against Gee the Mercyblade and Gregorie in prep for the European delegation, who will be challenging her to duels.
Beast and Jane have been co-existing but resisting each other as well and the time has come, after much meditation to do something about it. This has unbelievable consequences and advantages, but comes at a great price. But she will never be prey again.
Satan's Three are after magical artifacts that either Leo or Jane has, until they find out what is in Leo's basement at the Council House. Reach has been tortured and has given up all his info on Jane and Leo and everyone else attached to the vampires.
Once again Leo hasn't told Jane all that she needs to keep everyone alive. Vamp politics suck, literally.

This was fun! It's erotica, but with a good plot and humor. Mitchell got annoying after awhile (but eventually comes around). I liked that the menage relationship in this one was a bit different than in Delicate Freakn' Flower. I liked the Hunter and Jenny twist (but one goes unresolved; the individual disappears and nothing more is said). Good opening for book 3 (Already Freakn' Mated).
I stil don't have a cat read. I'm thinking maybe
I have the paperback around here somewhere. Any suggestions? (no hillbilly shifters Sandra...lol)

Alisa, why don't you read a Jane Yellowrock book? You can probably pick it up at the library or for under $5 on kindle.I see you're up to #4
Jane is definitely a darker UF book and I know you prefer those. :D
Wow! I'm not sure what to read. So many choices!I'll get my Meow review in this evening. I've been debating what to say.

Shelf 9: MEOWMegan's Mark by Lora Leigh

Review:
They were created, not born.
Megan Fields is an Empath living in the desert of New Mexico trying to hide from the overpowering effects of the outside world. She is ambushed while investigating an abandoned vehicle with two dead bodies. Enter Feline Breed, Braden Arness. He saves Megan from the Coyotes that have ben sent to kill her.
Although the cover of the book states that it is the first in a new series, I discovered that this is actually book #7. I was able to catch up with what was going on but really think I needed a little more background.
Braden's Alpha tendencies and the Mating ritual that binds him to Megan were a bit much. I enjoyed the suspense of the storyline about the Breeds. The relationship between Megan and Braden was intense! I think I need to back up and read the books in order to help build the world in my mind.
As a side note, I'm basically a cat person but once again the dog (Mo-J0) held a special place in my heart.
I have no idea what I'm reading this week either. I've read almost everything on the first 3-4 pages of that list. Going to have to look in more detail. I'm almost done with my cat shifter one. Took me longer to find the paperback that it has to read it. Apparently someone needs to organize her paperbacks. :(

Read: 9.17.15

Review:
Regina Moon flipped the sign hanging in the window of the door to OPEN, then glanced around her shop and smiled.
Regina has moved to small town Groves, Arkansas to escape an abusive boyfriend. She establishes a health food and holistic medicine shop. Strange things begin to occur almost immediately and as a newcomer, Regina is the prime suspect.
Trace Langston is the town sheriff. He left Chicago 8 years ago after working homicide too many years. The town hunk, he is often fighting off the local women. Trace has a strict no touch rule when it comes to women in the town. Regina changes that rule very quickly and becomes the jealous target of Becky.
Regina suspects Becky when strange things start happening around her. Events become deadly and evil. The townspeople are up in arms when they discover that Regina is Wiccan and a witch hunt evolves.
The town's past sheriff and the history of a missing teenage girl cause Regina to delve into people's lives. We soon learn that smiling faces cover pure evil.
This was a quick easy read. I enjoyed the budding romance between Trace and Regina. They were both running away from their pasts. The underlying theme of dark magic was good. The inclusion of a FBI agent that tries to educate Trace on Wicca was a nice addition.

Deep breath. There was a moment that really pissed me off. Let's get that out of the way first. If I wasn't reading this for Bingo, it probably would have been DNF'd.
Brand and Addy (Adara) are the main characters. So, of course, Brand is a walking wet dream. I guess that gives him the excuse to behave in less than desirable ways. Okay, so the first kiss happens very fast, especially (or because of) "The Dalvahni do not experience emotion." The he leaves after an interruption. Comes back when Addy is in the shower, goes to bed, and proceeds to watch her sleep. Watching her shower and sleep is such a turn-on that he proceeds to touch her while she is sleeping. Addy, or course, responds to said touching and gradually wakes up. They get interrupted again. Her first response is not (I repeat not) what the fuck are you doing?! No her first reaction is this, "God she was such a skank, a hoochie mama, a slut of biblical proportions." Instead of getting pissed at Brand, she disses herself. Argh!
Luckily it did get better, but this did stick with me and the rating does reflect the above.
I wish Addy had stood up to Brand more. Way too popular phrases in this book: "This I will not allow." and "You will...." (add what you want here). Addy's mom Bitsy is too overbearing even if she grows on you as the book progresses. On one of the first meetings with her in the book, Addy thought this: "She felt her liver curl and her lungs shrivel to husks under the heat of that maternal stare."
Okay, now the good/funny:
Dooley the talking dog, Brand and Ansgar not getting the slang and pop culture of modern day AL, the widow cutting off her dead husband's penis (he was cheating), the boys getting drunk on chocolate, Ansgar's nickname "Prince Flaxen Fart," and Meredith getting her comeuppance.
There are 2 other books in this series. Won't be reading them.

I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one in the series. (Although I can't help myself from singing "take me down to funky town" everytime they say the word "shifter town") In this Sean, who is the guardian of their pack, agrees to take Andrea in and as his mate to help her out of an abusive relationship. Of course he falls for her, does lot's of alpha postering and growling and they fall in love. I like the world the author has created here. Kind of an interesting take on shifters.

Ok, so here is the voice of dissension. I don't get the love for this series. I've started and stopped this book 3x in the past. I finished it this time because of the challenge. It's not bad but I don't know......it's just meh. I can't bring myself to care about Georgina and her succubus problems. None of the characters really stand out to me. I doubt I'll continue the series.

Well now I'm singing "Funky Town"!
I'm at 76%, and struggling along, not cause the book's bad, but because hubby brought home another cold/flu that he thoughtfully gave to me. So not happy. So my review will be short & sweet I think, when I actually get to the end of it.

I really, really don't like the Goddess Demeter, she's a real bitch. She enjoys torturing Special Agent Emma Monroe, who is a fallen siren, and her two sisters, because they allowed Persephone to be kidnapped by Hades. She also cursed Emma, in that if she falls in love, the lovee is killed.
Zack her FBI partner, a werewolf, knows that Emma won't get involved, and there is a reason, but Emma isn't saying. So the sexual tension is high.
Vampire politics also raises its ugly head, and in fact Emma's squeeze Kallistos who knows about Demeter, is the local King of Vampires.
The case of missing school girls with no ransom demands, no bodies, few leads, has Emma & Zack hopping around, until they figure out why these girls were taken. Then its just a matter of finding them in time.
Enjoyed it but the whole Demeter thing is a turn off especially when its been going on for centuries and has no end in sight.

I don't know why I make a list of books to read for Bingo. I have OLS(oh look, shiny!) syndrome and can be swayed very easily. I'll have to take a peek at my shelves when I get home.
I finally decided on If You've Got It, Haunt It by Rose Pressey.
I love vintage clothing and cats! And who can resist a ghost that wants you to solve her murder. Plus it works for another challenge. Gotta love a twofer!

This book had a very slow and confusing start. I almost put in down and picked a different one. It's a bit too descriptive in places. Percy annoyed me at first. She was very meek and apologized too much. She does grow and gain in spine and confidence (and stops apologizing all the freaking time). I finally got more invested and interested more about halfway through the book. On the fence about continuing with the next 2 since this was such a slow start and I'm not sure if I care enough to continue.

I remember distinctly what I was wearing the day I first came face-to-face with a ghost.
This is the first book in the Haunted Vintage Mystery Series. Cassandra "Cookie" Chanel has opened a vintage clothing store in the small town of Sugar Creek, Georgia. Cookie suddenly discovers that she can see ghosts when she attends an estate sale at the home of deceased socialite and real estate mogul, Charlotte Meadows. Charlotte decides that Cookie will find her killer and solve the murder.
Soon after acquiring Charlotte, a cat shows up at Cookie's shop. The cat, named Wind Song after Cookie's grandmother's favorite perfume, shows some remarkable skills. Cookie's friend Heather runs the local occult store but must admit that she is not psychic when confronted by Charlotte. However, Wind Song quickly shows that she can use a Ouija board and begins communicating with Cookie.
The murder of a private investigator spurs Cookie to delve more into Charlotte's death. Her mettling puts her in several awkward situations with handsome Detective Dylan Valentine coming to her rescue just in the nick of time.
Interesting beginning to a series. We don't learn why Cookie can see ghosts now as opposed to a childhood talent. I enjoyed the vintage clothing tips and Heather's tips for corralling the ghost are funny. I look forward to reading more in the series.

This was pretty good. A new author/series for me. It was about a demon collecting souls who comes across the soul of the man he originally gave up his soul for. (yeah it makes more sense in the book). I liked the spin on it because heaven (corporate North) and hell (corporate South) are corporations and they're filled with bureaucracy, paperwork, naggy bosses, office politics etc. The demons are far more worried about screwing up and being taken out of the field and put in a cubicle for eternity than torture. It made me laugh in a few places.

Really enjoyed the 1st one of this series
and this one picked up straight after it. However, if you've read any Riley Jensen you'll quickly recognise Melbourne, the badass h, battling supernatural creatures (usually vamps, but some monsters as well) under the human radar, the many love interests and the sex.
Despite the fact the h, Emberly Parson, is a phoenix, it really felt just same old, same old. Which is a shame cause we don't get many phoenix stories.
Loved the cover and I'll probably read the next one, Flameout, due July 2016, cause I do want to find out about Sam's brother Luke, and the Red Plague.
