I remember finding this book in a library about 3 or 4 years ago, it was a hardback that wasn't very big, with a red border, black writing, a messy font and a chicken on the cover. I think the author's name is Laslo something, that's all I can remember, for some reason this is bugging me because I somehow want to read it again because I never actually got around to reading it. It's a YA or children's book (I think?)

My only suggestion would be which fits some of your description, but not all. It's YA, with a chicken and messy writing. :) There are some slightly different covers on other editions.

It's not that, and it's not by that Laslo guy.

Do you remember what the book was about? Was the picture of the chicken a photograph or illustration? Was it a picture book or chapter book?

It was an illustration and I think it was just words. Also the author's name is definitely Laslo (or Lazlo, I don't know.) because I actually remember that. All my searches haven't worked.

Update: I've found it. It's Feather and Bone by Lazlo Strangolov. I've ordered it, can't wait to read it. I hope it lives up to my many years of searching! :D
