Zafia | 82 comments Do any of you have any idea what and where I should write the code to get the entire shelf box transparent.?
http://zafia.booklikes.com/shelf

I managed to get my box transparent on my blog page, but when it comes to the shelf page it just gets funky because of all the shelves.

Any suggestions? I d/l stylebot btw but that won't work with what I want.

Yes, that's sort of like the workaround for IE6 and the older versions of Firefox that I'm using on my website as well. Thanks again! Will tinker with this when I have some time and then report the results.

I think you want to style the class .shelf-menu (or div.shelf-menu).

try
div.shelf-menu {opacity: 0.5;}

in your global custom css (the box on the customization page, at the bottom on the left), it should give you a 50% transparency. If I got the right class, you can tweak it from there :)

Can you use Firefox? Or does that not work, either?

I'd keep BookLikes as a follow, though, as that's site announcements, new features, etc.

Tracey (stewartry) I guess I'm the only one not impressed by Booklikes customer service - I shot them a note on Friday saying I knew their servers were being taxed and all but my import has been saying "14 more hours" for about 36 hours (which I found out afterward is pretty common). I never got an answer. This morning I had a notification - and then a duplicate - that my import was complete. And I'm a little sick about it. I see 100% green generic covers; most of my shelves seem relatively intact, but the exclusive shelves are decimated (182 Read, 146 Planning to read, 2 Currently reading - ??)

Oh, I take it back. My shelves are present, but also decimated. Like, for example, my "11th century" one. On GR I have four books on it. BL, one. And I was wrong about the percentage of green covers; some books do have covers. A cover. All the same cover. This one:

'Scuse me while I go cry in my tea and try to decide whether to delete everything and start from scratch...

i did...

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) and I chose to "sync" my GR and Booklikes - so when I post to GR it goes to BL - maybe I am wrong about that??? but it's not syncing.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments No, the synch works the other way, if it's on. BL to GR.

I just want the box gone but the contents intact like I have on my blog page where there is no box for the amount of books thingy.

The code above also made the contents less visible, so that's not gonna work

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments I'm pretty sure; but not positive, as I'm not using the feature. (Just judging by comments of those who are.)

Tracey, that's the placeholder for editions they cannot recognise. If you can find your import list (settings->import->import list, or follow the link from "import finished" e-mail), you will find the list of books from your .csv. They are still there, but they won't appear on the shelf until the existing edition is set. Click "change" button to the right and search for the title to get what they have.

Yeah, it takes work. I have about 150 to work on. But it's better than I expected - I thought they might not recognise some at all.

Re-importing will do nothing.

message 370: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) Helen wrote: "Re-importing will do nothing...."

Yeah, I didn't really think so; it was a vague hope that the overtaxed servers botched the job and trying again later might help. What I actually meant by starting from scratch was to enter each book manually. But ... 330 books out of 5026 (when the import page says they all came over), and ... I just scrolled through about 15 pages on the import page, and literally 1 in 50 books has its correct cover. Everything else is green or "Therapie". 98% of 5026 = far more work than I'm willing or able to do right now.

I skipped the green covers - I just focused on "Therapie" for now so I could check the numbers and have the books on their rightful shelves. I'll bother with editions...later, when there is time. If ever.

Oh great that you fixed it! Usually the hardest part is figuring out what class to put the style on, at least for me it is.

KOMET | 43 comments One thing I've noticed today is how incredibly slow BL is to add books to one's library. So far, BL has not added a book I've tried to add to my library there. VERY FRUSTRATING.

I couldn't have done it without your div shelf thingy. And I'm so not into all of the Css. I just know how to fiddle and read instructions lol.
I also managed to change my font color so its visible with what my dark background and transparent box.

I think I'm done for now, unless someone has managed to make a spoiler button?

//edited typos.

message 375: by [deleted user] (new)

I mark my reviews "spoiler alert" (under the checkmark for "review").

How do I edit / delete a review? I think it's been mentioned before, but since this whole experience is making me feel very stupid, perhaps a kind soul might take pity on me? :-)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments I hit "edit" on the upper right hand side of the review. (Is useful when I forget tag. Which I do a lot.)

message 377: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah, thank you!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments No problem. (It's nice just knowing the answer!)

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 209 comments Zafia wrote: "I think I'm done for now, unless someone has managed to make a spoiler button?"

There are three tutorials on tagging and hiding spoilers (so far):

Zafia | 82 comments I just wanted one that makes the code either show or popup in my review text. I already got a spoiler in place.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 209 comments Zafia wrote: "I just wanted one that makes the code either show or popup in my review text. I already got a spoiler in place."

There's an instruction how to create popups here: http://meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/pop...

It's what I used to code this (mouse over the picture in the top left-hand corner of the page to see what I mean). I'm thinking about writing a popup tutorial for BookLikes on that basis, but probably won't get around to it until in a couple of days.

Rachel the Book Harlot I have a question about importing books. At first I tried adding my books manually, but it's proved to be overwhelming. Can I use the auto import now without deleting everything (including shelves) I've already entered on BL, or will I have to delete everything I've done?

I understand your instructions, but I cannot edit the reviews from that table. I can only see them. How can I find MY review of a particular book on a screen that lets me edit the review?

message 384: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) One thing that's annoying with the synchronization. Seems that a lot of my GR reviews have lost their formatting.

Yeah, I don't know why you cannot edit your review on the blog...
See the small bar at the top of the screen that goes "Dashboard-Blog-Shelf-Timeline"? You have to go to "Blog" (this get's you to your blog's dashboard, as opposed to friends feed), and scroll down until you find your review. Then hover to the left of the rating so the "edit" button will pop up.

Yeah, it's a pain.

@Ian All of my reviews lost formatting too.

message 387: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) Well, I can testify that the sync works both ways. I'd decided not to add a cover for a book I'm currently reading (being on strike and all), but I did add it to BL - and >poof<. *disables sync*

Okay, I apologize if someone's already said this (if so, a message # would be awesome), but: can we add or correct a description to a book that already exists on BL? I don't see an edit button.

Are you sure? It states somewhere on BL that the sync doesn't work GR to BL, only BL to GR.

message 389: by [deleted user] (new)

I wonder - if I E-mail BL and supply the colour codes I want used, do you think someone there can fix my blog up for me? Otherwise I might do as a friend suggested, and just have a Wordpress blog that is hosted on BL.

Positive. Unless someone else coincidentally added the cover onto GR at the exact same time.

Ian (setaian) Not sure if any of you are interested but you can use the image tags in the Goodreads HTML shortcuts to put images into the sidebar. Just paste them into the widgets box.
