Lys (lysrowan) It's a month of spooky and supernatural things.

This month, your challenge will be to read books that feature different supernatual/paranormal creatures.

Books do not double count. Feel free to mix and match between the lists if you like.

Centaur
Mermaid
Ghosts or spirits
Dragon
Vampire
Zombie
Werewolf/ Shifters
Faerie
Unicorn
Witch/Wizard/Spellcaster
Demons/Angels/ Dieties

If you're not a paranormal/fantasy fan, here's an alternate adventure for you:

- A centaur or a mermaid is a book that combines two distinct genres.
- Ghosts are books written in the past - "classics" from over a century ago.
- Dragons are proud books - the highly anticipated blockbusters and bestsellers.
- Vampires are books that fell into obscurity for a while but came back in a wave of popularity.
- Zombies are similar to vampires, but are less "sexy" and "mainstream" versions.
- Werewolves are violent books with surprising plot twists.
- Faeries are essentially magical and beautiful. They're flighty and light, but have very good prose.
- Unicorns are rare. They are treasured, unexpected things, like books that have under 1000 ratings, or a new ARC that you are excited to experience.
- Spellcasters are compelling. They DEMAND to be read to the exclusion of all else. And thus, must be read completely before anything else is started or finished.
- Demons and angels are guilty pleasures and required reading. Something for school OR something that you know you shouldn't read /right now/ but you do.

4 - Easy
7- Medium
11 - Hard

Have fun everyone! Feel free to plan now, but don't being reading until October 01!

I wanted to add that variations are at your own discretion. I think a Rusalka is a fine mermaid, for instance.

Sannie Hald (sanniehald) | 282 comments This sounds awesome! I like the 'non paranormal' aspect of it! I like how it actually makes perfect sense. Well done!

message 3: by Lys (last edited Sep 24, 2013 12:59PM) (new)

Lys (lysrowan) Thanks! I was kinda proud of it :). I even read books with most of those creatures, but I might do the alternate because it seems more fun.

Example: Witch/Wizard/Spelllcaster
A book for each of those listed above?

A centaur or a mermaid is a book that combines two distinct genres. What does this mean?

message 19: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinpickell) | 1298 comments A centaur and a mermaid are half humanoid and half animal (horse & fish), so if you read a book that is say fantasy & mystery, that would qualify. Or at least that is what I took from it, but I could be wrong Leigh. I guess wait for Alyssia to clarify.
