Honor's Splendour
question
Say It Isn't Soooooo

I just started reading Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood. This is my first Julie Garwood, but thought I would give her a try since so many people recommended her books. I must say that I am not impressed. This book is unsophisticated, choppy with simple sentence structure. Please tell me it gets better and please tell me this is not typical of the author. It's a shame because I really like the hero in this one, but just cannot get past the simplicity of the book. This is what happens when one is familiar with authors such as Kleypas and McNaught.

I love Julie Garwood, but you have to love her for what she does. Her style when she wrote Lions Lady and those great books was to give her heroine a quirky innocence that made them more adorable than hot and sexy. And her writitng was not deep. But that was the joy of it. Light, entertaining and sweet. McNaught, wow I wish she had something recent out. Yes she was a whole different ballgame. I could never read her unless I was able to spend the weekend and go straight though the book. But, personally, I'd trade them all for one more novel from LaVyrle Spencer.

I'm a male and I have read and own a lot of Garwood's books. Her humor in them is great. One of my all time favorites of hers' is "The Gift". I can just picture the faces of the other characters when ever Sara does something extraordinary. Garwood's style of writing may be simplistic. But her characters, dialogue and plot lines are sound. Another "fun" author is Amanda Quick aka: Jayne Ann Krentz.
I love Garwood historicals because you don't have the characters main plot driven by some misunderstanding. I love that the characters ask 'what do you mean by that'. The stories are great and entertaining. McNaught is great. My favorite of hers is 'Until You'. But alot of her storylines are due to poor communication. Also like Julia Quinn and Lisa Kelypas.
I love this book
For me, I think Garwood's historical novels are smoothly written and very visual. So far, I can always count on a happy ending:) I own one book by Judith McNaught called A Kingdom of Dreams. I haven't been able to get past the first few pages yet. But, I will try again. Honor's Splendour and A Kingdom of Dreams both have a man in their story called The Wolf.
I see that someone has recommended LaVyrle and Kleypas? I will look into those author's right now:)
The first Garwood novel that I read is called The Wedding, and it is my favorite:)

I am very displeased with this book, I only read the first five chapters, I couldn't finish it. I couldn't get pass the way the Bible Scriptures were being used. I felt it was very improper, it was just wrong. Very disappointed, because she is one of my favorite writer.
I soo love Julie Garwood. Its her first book I have read in English language novel coz you see.. Im Filipino. Anyways, I have read a lot of books after I had all her historical romance and some of her contemporary ones.
if you liked Honor's splendour you better read all her historical romance. especially the Saving Grace, Prince Charming, for the roses. Gosh! its the best among the bests in historical romance genre.

I agree with you, both authors' books are enjoyable to read. Regards.
I love both Garwood and McNaught. I have read 14 of McNaught's books and 18 of Garwood's. One of my all time favorites of all of my books read is Garwood's book "Ransom." I seem to like McNaught's contemporaries better than her historicals.
Ilove the Secret. Her writing put me right in the middle of the meadow with the child running around in circles that is what drew me in. I Find her humoruos and funny. I love The Gift, The Bride, The secret, etc.
Give it another try.
Give it another try.
Lyons Lady was Fab and WHITNEY MY LOVE by McNaught was sooooo good
I love Garwood more. I admit a couple of her books slip but most hold up great. The Wedding and The Bride, The Gentle Warrior are very good. I especially like Lion's Lady. A girl raised by indians..then trained to go into englands society. Her quirks are funny and make for some confusion. Ransom and The Secret are go together books. As you can tell I am bias lol I have all her early books. I won't name them all. :0 I have McNaughts and like them too. I like Garwoods because she is lighthearted and the other has a more serious bent.
Haha I was about to recommend McNaught before I finished reading your post too!!
I started to recommend McNaught before I finished reading your post. I agree. McNaught's books are so much better, and yet Garwood seems to be the more popular writer.
