Canterbury Tales in college, I hated it because I had to do a project on it and I couldn't find any information on the innkeeper. We were each assigned a pilgrim and that was mine.
I like the Shakespeare plays I read. I just never had to read Romeo and Juliet. It's only a comedy if no one dies in the play. :)
I hated both Catcher in the Rye and the Lord of the flies. I reread them both as an adult.Still hated them. Grapes of Wrath when reread as an adult was a favorite. I think I was not mature enough as a sophomore in bhigh school for that book
In high school I hated Animal Farm and The Old Man and the Sea. Took me years to read these authors again (love Owell; on the fence about Hemingway but want to read more). In University, I hated My Ántonia and The Playboy of the Western World. I've since read more of Willa Cather, including My Antonia and love her writing. I haven't retried reading Playboy or the author's other works, if he has any.
Shakespeare is the first to come to mind, so I'm guessing that's what I disliked the most. Along with The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
a farewell to arms was awful. I got a d on the test and the teacher accused me of not reading it even though it took all summer to read
I hated "Faust" or whatever it was titled. The idea of selling your soul to the devil for some short term gain - abhorrent. However, I had a really good teacher for "Animal Farm" who talked us through everything that happened. It wasn't really about animals, it was a satire about politics (sorry, I'm sure you know that). I proceeded to major in politics at univ so it must have had an impact. Loved Shakespeare, hated Hemingway.
Lord of the Flies, it was so depressing, not simply the plot of the story, but what it said about human nature. At 15 years old, I was not the cynic I am today and everything in me rebelled at that book.
Last of the Mohicans! Maybe if I had actually done the assigned reading I would have enjoyed it more. Then again, maybe not!
