Amanda (aeriga) I just finished Changeling (Sisters of the Moon, #2) by Yasmine Galenorn , and just started Nightfall (The Vampire Diaries The Return, #1) by L.J. Smith ...does anyone agree that the show is 10x better than the books? :s

Yes, I do and NIGHTFALL is particularly awful!

message 1354: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished [image error] by Jennifer Crusie. Great book!! I loved it. Really funny and romantic story about an amusement park that is secretly a prison for demons.
I'm now reading Aphrodite's Kiss (Time of Your Life) by Julie Kenner by Julie Kenner.

message 1355: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm 2/3 finished with Heart of Darkness. The first two stories were okay. The 3rd one sounds terrible from the description (reincarnated Egytian princhess), but I've never read this author before so maybe it will be better than I think. (Crossing my fingers)

message 1356: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I'm currently reading The Monsters of Templeton. Really enjoying it, not sure if it's urban fantasy, but there's some interesting things going on in this small town...
The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff

message 1357: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 233 comments I just started reading Vicious Circle, my first UF for the challenge. I'm leaving to spend Passover with my family tomorrow and I'm planning to read this book on the plane. So far I'm really enjoying it.

Kayzee | 115 comments Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld its a different kind of story

message 1360: by TheThirdLie (new)

TheThirdLie Finished reading The Devil You Know* by Mike Carey. It was a decent read. It finished up the story in the book nicely, but opened up new doors for later novels. I'll probably be reading the next one in the series in about a week or so.

Started reading the second book in the Amber series, Guns of Avalon** by Roger Zelazny - no UF, but.... well, it kinda started out that way.

* The Devil You Know (Felix Castor, #1) by Mike Carey
** The Guns of Avalon (Amber Chronicles, #2) by Roger Zelazny

message 1361: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments Just finished The Monsters of Templeton, which definately has uf tropes, like sea, well, lake monsters, ghosts who interact with the living, a woman who can start fires when she gets emotional and more, but I don't think it's urban fantasy...

Now about to start March by Geraldine Brooks about the Dad from Little Women. I think it's historical fiction... The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff March by Geraldine Brooks

message 1362: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I'm starting Kiss & Hell by Dakota Cassidy

message 1365: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments Finished March and liked it a lot. Now I'm reading Witch Way to the Mall by Esther M. Friesner which isn't urban fantasy, but suburban fantasy short stories about witches, and probably (hopefully) really funny.

Yep, I enjoyed it enough, that I will more than likely read the rest of the books in the series.

message 1373: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Kiss of Midnight. I had finally found this book at a used book store but had already read #2 and #3 of the series. It was really spoiled because I didn't read #1 first. Very good book although the romance took forever.

message 1374: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (satori1977) | 6 comments Just finished Iron Kissed (Mercedes Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs by Patricia Briggs, and I loved it. Read more than one half in one sitting. Picked up the next one from the library, but technically can't start until the first because it is a challenge book. But I can't wait!

Reading Steamed (Steampunk Romance, #1) by Katie MacAlister , and I am really liking it so far. Haven't read any of her other books, and this is my first steampunk novel. Very cool!

message 1375: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments I will be starting Karma Girl (Bigtime, Book 1) by Jennifer Estep later today.

message 1376: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Beyond the Dark by Angela Knight anthology and really loved it! I think it is the first anthology that I actually liked all the stories! I'm now reading Lust at First Bite (Black Lace) by Black lace erotic authors which is another anthology.

I did not expect to like Morganville Vamp series as much as I do.

Just finished Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder great book!
Also read The Awakening and The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries, #1-2) by L.J. Smith ...interesting definitely not sure how I feel about it.

Now I am reading Through the Veil by Shiloh Walker

message 1379: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Currently reading Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey (urban fantasy young-adult style). It is cute, but doesn't seem very original in execution. I do like the "hero" (?), Lucius... his letters home to his Uncle are very funny.

And I'm starting And Then He Kissed Her by Laura Lee Guhrke (historical romance) today for a group read in one of my other groups.

message 1380: by Lisa M (new)

Dawn its not too bad but Poison study was well balanced, magic study was a bit slow and fire study is just full on with not one mintues peace to think lol

Lisa M | 311 comments Dawn wrote: "I live Kitty!"

I liked her too, but some of the side characters seemed kinda flat - in particular Cormac. He was supposed to be a major kick-butt werewolf hunter, but I never really got any badass vibes from him. I think Carrie Vaughn could have put more into him and some of the others. Just my two cents.

message 1387: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 367 comments @Kayzee Thanks that is good to know!!

@Lisa: Cormac agreed yes he is an odd egg, he feels more like a tortured soul and a jerk than a kick a$$ wolf hunter. Then again I was actually happy to see her and Ben, I also like Rick.

message 1388: by TheThirdLie (last edited Apr 01, 2010 02:36AM) (new)

TheThirdLie Just finished up Unshapely Things by Mark del Franco and it was pretty awesome. It's only the first novel in the Connor Grey series, but it's already my second favorite UF series. I don't know what it really was, but it just seemed fresh and Connor was an awesome character. He didn't have that annoying angst or "i'm so freaking awesome!" thing going for him. The character relationships were done really well too. It's only the first book and I already care about the characters and how they interact. It's wonderful and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book. I may end up reading the second book in this series instead of the Felix Castor series for the April-June challenge. =]

I am now officially beginning the first book of the challenge though, Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Zafon. Well I'll probably start it sometime later today as I've already stayed up to late reading. 3:30AM isn't the time of the day to be going to sleep, but when a novel hooks you.... it's hard to get away. :D

I've read at least 2 of the Connor Grey books and they just have not grabbed me. But then books that deal primarily with the fae, and their politics, just don't seem to hold my interest. Glad you like them!

This is one of my favorite Harry Dresden books!

message 1392: by TheThirdLie (new)

TheThirdLie Melodie: Ya know, I usually dislike fairies as well and I pretty much always hate politics, but the characters just stood out for me. The author didn't write it that well, he definitely could have focused more on the characters and story, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I was thoroughly pleased too - I was expecting more generic UF honestly. :D

Julia,

Have you read the Dark Tower series? Just curious because I think the graphic novels are probably more of a companion set. I imagine they would be hard to follow for people not already familiar with the story - but, eh, I could be wrong.
