Yes! I LOVED Ravenous!! It had plenty of action and a great romance between a witch and a vampire!

message 1102: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Melodie, that was the pattern with me. I've read them all so far, and only one really appealed to me whole-heartedly. I keep reading because the final fight scenes in each show what Rardin is capable of, but the lack of character development kills me every time. The last book, Bite Marks, hit me the same way as most of the others. It's a whole lotta "almost" and not enough delivery.

Backtracking a little on this thread, I wasn't thrilled with Carpe Demon either. If she focused solely on the Vatican training ground, it might be more interesting.

I'm just starting Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, and from the first chapter, I already think I'll like it. Gritty gritty.

message 1104: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments I finished Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews and Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews last week. I liked the first book, but I loved each of these next two much more. I love Kate and I am smitten with Curran. I hear the next book is the best yet (from those lucky ones that got ARCs!).

After that I started On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews . I'm about halfway through and I am enjoying it. It's always hard for me to get into a new series though.

I also am reading The Demon's Lexicon (Demons, #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan . I am only on chapter 3, so I don't have much of a feel for it yet.

For those wondering about [image error] , yes it is a series. I think there will be 5 books in total. I really loved it and can't wait for the next one.

MsMiz (Tina) (alias) Summer wrote: "Reading Midnight's Daughter on the Kindle. Not really connecting with Dorina yet, but I know it'll come eventually...I love Louis-Cesare, though!"

Wait until you get to the second one. She still is a rough shod loud mouth who leaps before she looks, but the secondary characters are good and L-C is really good!

message 1106: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (aeriga) I just finished The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan and am now going to start Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 204 comments Just findished Uninvited and Revealers. Uninvited bored me to tears until things finally wrapped up in the end. Revealers though was fantastic. Such an original idea. I'm now starting Howling at the Moon, I've been meaning to forever.

How did you find Vampire Kisses? I enjoyed the first few in the series but felt like they were lacking substance compared to other YA novels I have read.

The Vampire Kisses books are DEFINITELY juvenile material. A couple of teenagers and not a raging hormone in sight??? I don't think so. I won't bother with anymore of them because they are truly kids books.

Ha Ha! glad I wasn't the only one who thinks so. I think they will be a great read for my 10yr. I am usually pretty persistent with finishing something I start, but couldn't go past the first few, I wouldn't recommend even bothering with any others.

message 1112: by Natalie (new)

Natalie A. I'm currently reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I really like the series so far. I would see it on the shelves, but I wasn't too crazy about werewolf and shapeshifter books before but I'm hooked on this series. this is the second series I've read where the shapeshifters and werewolves are the dominant species in the series.

message 1113: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished both Lord of the Night and Undying and really liked them both. I'm now reading Midnight Awakening (Midnight Breed, #3) by Lara Adrian

message 1114: by Anne (new)

Anne I finished Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception yesterday. It was good, but I wish I hadn't read all of the rave reviews beforehand. Kind of a letdown...

message 1115: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I started listening to Kitty Goes to Washington. I stopped listening for the night at the point where the jaguarwere was purring in bed with Kitty. Just too cute!

message 1116: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Just finished Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre .

I really enjoyed it! At times it had the same sort of feel as the movie Serenity, so if you enjoyed that, you might want to try this.

message 1117: by Anne (new)

Anne I started Beneath the Skin (The Maker's Song, #3) by Adrian Phoenix last night. Not very far into it, but it is definitely interesting. I swing back and forth between loving this series and being totally skeezed out!

message 1118: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I finished [image error] yesterday and thought it was great! Just started The Good, the Bad, and the Uncanny (Nightside, #10) by Simon R. Green this morning.

message 1119: by Brian (new)

Brian Steele (brian-f-steele) I literally just started a novel by John Meaney. I'm only about 20 pages into it.
Bone Song (Tristopolis, #1) by John Meaney Bone Song

However, I'm almost finished with an anthology by John Joseph Adams. I can't express how pleased I am with this anthology.
[image error] The Living Dead
This isn't a book filled with "great Zombie stories." This is a book filled with Great Stories. Period. They just all happen to be about Zombies. A good portion of the authors wouldn't even be classified as 'horror authors,' which allow them to bring fresh, bold ideas to the table. Oh, it's incredibly graphic, but I highly recommend it.

message 1120: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I started Battle Royale by Koushun Takami yesterday and am having a hard time putting it down! Completely entralled.

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Kitty Goes to Washington and finished reading Bone Crossed. I am now reading Syren.

message 1124: by Anne (new)

Anne I finished Single White Vampire yesterday, and it was cute.
I'm still working on Beneath the Skin. It's very good, but part of the storyline is about child abuse, so I have to read it in small doses.

Laura Fowler | 29 comments Tempted to pick up more of C E Murphy's Walker Papers, but the first one was a little under-developed mythology-wise. Right after I read it, I read DeLint's Greenmantle, and it did the whole 'wild hunt' much better. Do the books get more complex like the dresden series did? If they do... I'd take a stab at them again.

message 1134: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Kitty Takes a Holiday and Kitty and the Silver Bullet. Still reading Syren and Nightshade.

message 1135: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Laura, I'd say Murphy is more character oriented. The mythology isn't that well developed on the Celtic side. She focuses much more heavily on the Native American aspects. I'm not too well versed in them, but I'd say she handles them better. Nothing compared to DeLint though.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) i started Ecstasy (Shadowdwellers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank last night and there was just too much world building...I was so bored with the story. so, about 75 pages into it I dropped it.

I am going to start Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent tonight.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I like both folks writing, but De lint is lyrical and a master.

message 1138: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I just finished Eve of Chaos by S.J. Day. I loved it!! I really hope she writes another book in the series soon! I'm now starting on The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, #3) by Gena Showalter . I really enjoy this series as well.

I found Ecstasy slow also. I ended up finishing it, but it didnt really pick up until over halfway through. I'm going to still try the next one in the series and hope it was just because it was the first in the series. I do enjoy her Nightwalkers series though.

It's actually very rare for me not to finish a book. I may check it out again in the future--I just had too many good books waitng for me to read...and I DO like her Nightwalker series. Have you read Hunting Julian? I picked that one up today from the library--hoping it's a better series starter than Ecstasy.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it, plus it was really different from what it out there.

Just finished this one and it was good too, really built on the second one and gave some great things to look forward to in the next one.

message 1147: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (aeriga) I just finished Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder , and am going to read Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward

message 1148: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand.

I finally finished reading Syren by Angie Sage. It was a good read, but very long. Even though I read the other 4 books, I couldn't remember all the people that were referenced in the story. Definately best to read the books in sequence.

I am still reading Nightshade and I've started Bone by Bone by Carol O'Connell.

message 1149: by Darcy (new)
