What are you reading? (Part 1)
Melodie, that was the pattern with me. I've read them all so far, and only one really appealed to me whole-heartedly. I keep reading because the final fight scenes in each show what Rardin is capable of, but the lack of character development kills me every time. The last book, Bite Marks, hit me the same way as most of the others. It's a whole lotta "almost" and not enough delivery.Backtracking a little on this thread, I wasn't thrilled with Carpe Demon either. If she focused solely on the Vatican training ground, it might be more interesting.
I'm just starting Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, and from the first chapter, I already think I'll like it. Gritty gritty.
I finished
and
last week. I liked the first book, but I loved each of these next two much more. I love Kate and I am smitten with Curran. I hear the next book is the best yet (from those lucky ones that got ARCs!). After that I started
. I'm about halfway through and I am enjoying it. It's always hard for me to get into a new series though.I also am reading
. I am only on chapter 3, so I don't have much of a feel for it yet. For those wondering about [image error] , yes it is a series. I think there will be 5 books in total. I really loved it and can't wait for the next one.
Summer wrote: "Reading Midnight's Daughter on the Kindle. Not really connecting with Dorina yet, but I know it'll come eventually...I love Louis-Cesare, though!"Wait until you get to the second one. She still is a rough shod loud mouth who leaps before she looks, but the secondary characters are good and L-C is really good!
Just findished Uninvited and Revealers. Uninvited bored me to tears until things finally wrapped up in the end. Revealers though was fantastic. Such an original idea. I'm now starting Howling at the Moon, I've been meaning to forever.

Melodie wrote: "Kerry wrote: "Melodie wrote: "I just finished

I'm currently reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I really like the series so far. I would see it on the shelves, but I wasn't too crazy about werewolf and shapeshifter books before but I'm hooked on this series. this is the second series I've read where the shapeshifters and werewolves are the dominant species in the series.
I finished Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception yesterday. It was good, but I wish I hadn't read all of the rave reviews beforehand. Kind of a letdown...
I started listening to Kitty Goes to Washington. I stopped listening for the night at the point where the jaguarwere was purring in bed with Kitty. Just too cute!
Just finished
.I really enjoyed it! At times it had the same sort of feel as the movie Serenity, so if you enjoyed that, you might want to try this.
I started
last night. Not very far into it, but it is definitely interesting. I swing back and forth between loving this series and being totally skeezed out!
I literally just started a novel by John Meaney. I'm only about 20 pages into it.
Bone SongHowever, I'm almost finished with an anthology by John Joseph Adams. I can't express how pleased I am with this anthology.
[image error] The Living Dead
This isn't a book filled with "great Zombie stories." This is a book filled with Great Stories. Period. They just all happen to be about Zombies. A good portion of the authors wouldn't even be classified as 'horror authors,' which allow them to bring fresh, bold ideas to the table. Oh, it's incredibly graphic, but I highly recommend it.
I started Battle Royale by Koushun Takami yesterday and am having a hard time putting it down! Completely entralled.
Shannon wrote: "I just finished Deadtown by Nancy Holzner. Started For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. Loving this series!"
How did you like Deadtown? I just got it but haven't started it yet.
I finished listening to Kitty Goes to Washington and finished reading Bone Crossed. I am now reading Syren.
I finished Single White Vampire yesterday, and it was cute.I'm still working on Beneath the Skin. It's very good, but part of the storyline is about child abuse, so I have to read it in small doses.
Shannon wrote: "I just finished Deadtown by Nancy Holzner. Started For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. Loving this series!"this author is local and came to our book club. we just finished reading the book too. what did you think? which authors would you compare her to?

I liked the looks of the "world" involved. I'm looking forward to it!
I finished Midnight Awakening and really loved it! I'm now reading
I'm having a hard time getting into it. Hope it gets better.
Brian, I agree with you about The living Dead. I have heard good stuff about Bone Song. I havent read that one yet.

Tempted to pick up more of C E Murphy's Walker Papers, but the first one was a little under-developed mythology-wise. Right after I read it, I read DeLint's Greenmantle, and it did the whole 'wild hunt' much better. Do the books get more complex like the dresden series did? If they do... I'd take a stab at them again.
I finished listening to Kitty Takes a Holiday and Kitty and the Silver Bullet. Still reading Syren and Nightshade.
Laura, I'd say Murphy is more character oriented. The mythology isn't that well developed on the Celtic side. She focuses much more heavily on the Native American aspects. I'm not too well versed in them, but I'd say she handles them better. Nothing compared to DeLint though.
i started
last night and there was just too much world building...I was so bored with the story. so, about 75 pages into it I dropped it. I am going to start
tonight.

I just finished Eve of Chaos by S.J. Day. I loved it!! I really hope she writes another book in the series soon! I'm now starting on
. I really enjoy this series as well.

I found Ecstasy slow also. I ended up finishing it, but it didnt really pick up until over halfway through. I'm going to still try the next one in the series and hope it was just because it was the first in the series. I do enjoy her Nightwalkers series though.

It's actually very rare for me not to finish a book. I may check it out again in the future--I just had too many good books waitng for me to read...and I DO like her Nightwalker series. Have you read Hunting Julian? I picked that one up today from the library--hoping it's a better series starter than Ecstasy.
I will be starting
by Linda Robertson, it is the second one, the first surprised me with how good it was.
Cherra wrote: "Valorie wrote: "Cherra wrote: "i started

Darcy wrote: "I will be starting

Just finished this one and it was good too, really built on the second one and gave some great things to look forward to in the next one.
I just finished The Darkest Pleasure and really enjoyed it. Not quite as good as the first two books in the series, but I really liked it. I'm now reading
I finished listening to Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand.I finally finished reading Syren by Angie Sage. It was a good read, but very long. Even though I read the other 4 books, I couldn't remember all the people that were referenced in the story. Definately best to read the books in sequence.
I am still reading Nightshade and I've started Bone by Bone by Carol O'Connell.
I just finished Secondhand Spirits: A Witchcraft Mystery by Juliet Blackwell and really enjoyed it. A cute and funny paranormal mystery. I'm now reading

Yes! I LOVED Ravenous!! It had plenty of action and a great romance between a witch and a vampire!
