What are you reading? (Part 1)

Backtracking a little on this thread, I wasn't thrilled with Carpe Demon either. If she focused solely on the Vatican training ground, it might be more interesting.
I'm just starting Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, and from the first chapter, I already think I'll like it. Gritty gritty.

After that I started

I also am reading

For those wondering about [image error] , yes it is a series. I think there will be 5 books in total. I really loved it and can't wait for the next one.

Wait until you get to the second one. She still is a rough shod loud mouth who leaps before she looks, but the secondary characters are good and L-C is really good!

How did you find Vampire Kisses? I enjoyed the first few in the series but felt like they were lacking substance compared to other YA novels I have read.

The Vampire Kisses books are DEFINITELY juvenile material. A couple of teenagers and not a raging hormone in sight??? I don't think so. I won't bother with anymore of them because they are truly kids books.

Ha Ha! glad I wasn't the only one who thinks so. I think they will be a great read for my 10yr. I am usually pretty persistent with finishing something I start, but couldn't go past the first few, I wouldn't recommend even bothering with any others.

I really enjoyed it! At times it had the same sort of feel as the movie Serenity, so if you enjoyed that, you might want to try this.

However, I'm almost finished with an anthology by John Joseph Adams. I can't express how pleased I am with this anthology.
[image error] The Living Dead
This isn't a book filled with "great Zombie stories." This is a book filled with Great Stories. Period. They just all happen to be about Zombies. A good portion of the authors wouldn't even be classified as 'horror authors,' which allow them to bring fresh, bold ideas to the table. Oh, it's incredibly graphic, but I highly recommend it.

Shannon wrote: "I just finished Deadtown by Nancy Holzner. Started For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. Loving this series!"
How did you like Deadtown? I just got it but haven't started it yet.

I'm still working on Beneath the Skin. It's very good, but part of the storyline is about child abuse, so I have to read it in small doses.

this author is local and came to our book club. we just finished reading the book too. what did you think? which authors would you compare her to?

I thought it was pretty good. It is different from what I have been reading lately. I think there is..."
I liked the looks of the "world" involved. I'm looking forward to it!

I agree with you about The living Dead. I have heard good stuff about Bone Song. I havent read that one yet.

I am going to start

Couldn't have said it better myself. I like both folks writing, but De lint is lyrical and a master.

I am going to start [bookco..."
I found Ecstasy slow also. I ended up finishing it, but it didnt really pick up until over halfway through. I'm going to still try the next one in the series and hope it was just because it was the first in the series. I do enjoy her Nightwalkers series though.

It's actually very rare for me not to finish a book. I may check it out again in the future--I just had too many good books waitng for me to read...and I DO like her Nightwalker series. Have you read Hunting Julian? I picked that one up today from the library--hoping it's a better series starter than Ecstasy.

No I haven't read it yet. I have it here in my mountainous TBR pile! Let me know how you like it!

Glad to hear that Darcy!! I just picked up the 1st book in the series at my local used book store!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it, plus it was really different from what it out there.
Just finished this one and it was good too, really built on the second one and gave some great things to look forward to in the next one.

I finally finished reading Syren by Angie Sage. It was a good read, but very long. Even though I read the other 4 books, I couldn't remember all the people that were referenced in the story. Definately best to read the books in sequence.
I am still reading Nightshade and I've started Bone by Bone by Carol O'Connell.

Yes! I LOVED Ravenous!! It had plenty of action and a great romance between a witch and a vampire!
