Paula (pauldajo) Cherra, I finished Lament and enjoyed it. I really can't think of a negative in describing Lament. The book is obviously in the YA category. I'm going to search for book 2, Ballad. There are a few loose ends that I want cleared up. I also want to follow the evolving story of Dee, Luke, James and the world of the fey.

Sandy | 122 comments I just finished Speak of the Devil

message 905: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I just finished Red (Dead World, #1) by Jordan Summers and really enjoyed it. It was kind of a Sci-Fi-ish paranormal romance about werewolves. A really good 1st book in the series. A really strong heroine lead character, which I love! I moving on to Eve of Destruction (Marked, Book 2) by S.J. Day next.

Julia | 615 comments This weekend I finished Wildwood Dancing, The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes and Light Fell. Now I'm reading Starshine by Theodore Sturgeon from my TBR pile/ shelf from 1966. Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood, #1) by Juliet Marillier The Sandman Preludes & Nocturnes (Volume 1) by Neil Gaiman [image error] Starshine by Theodore Sturgeon My favorite of these is Wildwood Dancing.

Summer (summerbp) | 40 comments Finally back from a hiatus. Had wrist surgery and couldn't read nor type too well, but I've got the intricacies of life with your dominant arm in a cast down, now, so...

I got 6 new books for Christmas (my hubbie is a great listener):

Three Days to Dead, which I've already started.

Dreamfever, which I can't wait to read, though I'm afraid I may have to skim Faefever to refresh my memory.

Glass Houses

White Night

Shiver

Blue Moon, which will have to wait until I read the first one. Hubby didn't realize this was #2.

I'm also finally reading Kushiel's Dart, and I got a bunch of others at the used bookstore which I will talk about in due time...

I read it when it came out. Also took me forever to get through and I didn't like it.

I read this about a month ago. It does totally drag until almost the very end. Not sure I'm going to read the second one.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 237 comments I'm reading [image error] and totally loving it, although I did not like the Sookie story. I found some new authors!

This is a first book for the author, I liked it enough (even though it was slow) to read the second. It was better than the first. Nightwalker (Dark Days, #1) by Jocelynn Drake

I read that book when it first came out and liked it. But I really liked the second book in the series more.

message 915: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I'm currently reading Before I Wake by Kathryn Smith which is a very different type of Urban Fantasy than I'm used to. The author has created an incredible world - The Dreaming. Fascinating stuff.

Also reading Wicked All Day by Liz Carlyle on my (NEW! Yippee!!) Kindle. This is my first book by Ms. Carlyle... too early to say whether I like the book or not.

message 916: by Anne (new)

Anne I just started Soulless. I'm not far enough into it to tell if it's any good, yet.

Theresa, I read Wicked All Day a few weeks ago. Enjoyed it quite a bit!

I just bought Three Days to Dead, let me know how you like it!

message 919: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) Just finished Fallen by Lauren Kate. Totally disappointed with this book. A root canal would be more enjoyable...I don't know how to explain this plot because nothing happens, nothing is answered, nothing is explained and all you have are more questions by the end of the book.
The problem with Fallen is that the action and overall story limps along, much like watching water drip from a kitchen sink. By page one-hundred I was ready to throw in the towel, but I decided to give it another fifty pages. And around page two-hundred I wanted to bang my head against the wall from the sheer boredom I was feeling.

[image error] was good! I was very pleasantly surprised. Meding is looking to be a great new voice in the UF community. Fans of the Cassandra Palmer series will likely enjoy Evy Stone and company.

message 923: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I finished and loved Divine Misdemeanors (Meredith Gentry, #8) by Laurell K. Hamilton & Grave Surprise (Harper Connelly Mystery, #2) by Charlaine Harris . Am now reading Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, #9) by Charlaine Harris & The Highlander's Touch by K. Moning

message 924: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Anne wrote: "Reading Kiss of the Highlander right now. Steamy! This is the first Moning book I have read outside of the Fever series. Yum."

Ann you should read them from the beginning! I have read the first 2 and loved them and I just started the 3rd... I think I have heard that you don't HAVE to read them in order but I think it helps later on in the series....

message 925: by Anne (new)

Anne Thanks, Suz! I definitely want to read the next one! I'm going to have to go back and get the first few eventually, though. Are they all about time traveling highland hunks? I noticed that it was a running theme when I looked up a few others in the series.

message 926: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments I'm starting Storm Front, the first Dresden. I know people have said it suffers from FBS. Based on the beginning pages, I'm going to guess part of that comes from him trying a little too hard for a snarky, noir feel.

message 927: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Eve of Destruction (Marked, Book 2) by S.J. Day and loved it! I cant wait to start the next book in the series! So far both Eve of Darkness and Eve of Destruction were GREAT!
I think I might start Night's Cold Kiss (A Dark Brethren Novel, book 1) by Tracey O'Hara next!

Hi Micheele , read Storm Front a few months ago and enjoyed it, although everone tells me that this is not the best of the series, it does get better. But I like Harry's character enough to read more.

message 929: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments I'm about half way through, Emma, and I'm liking it well enough. It drags a bit, but I can see Harry's appeal.

message 930: by Anne (new)

Anne Started My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, #1) by Rachel Vincent last night. I'm not very far into it yet, but it seem like it will be interesting.

message 931: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Michelle M. wrote: "I'm about half way through, Emma, and I'm liking it well enough. It drags a bit, but I can see Harry's appeal."

That's exactly how I was about it after finishing it--I need to pick up the next few to see if the series grabs me more than the first book did.

I am reading A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce and ugh, I don't even want to finish it. I went and looked at some of the reviews and feel I should be liking this book more that I am. Maybe it's because I just read the Night Huntress series before this and now this book is so utterly plodding in comparison. :)

But I think what I don't like about it is the main character--I can't stand to read books where the protagonist keeps making awful decisions and not confiding in or asking for help from those who love her, who would gladly help her. She is so sure that she should take everything on her shoulders and not impose on others that I just know she is going to ruin everything. Ugh.

I have about a 1/3 left--hopefully it redeems itself. :)

message 932: by Summer (new)

Summer (summerbp) | 40 comments Finished and loved Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater yesterday; today I think I'll do Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine .

message 933: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I finished and LOVED Catching Fire Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins this morning. Hope to finish Will War Ever End? by midnight for a challenge. Will War Ever End A Soldier's Vision of Peace for the 21st Century by Paul K Chappell

message 934: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Anne, Soul Screamers seems like it could be a good series. I liked that one enough that I'll read the next. There's an interesting twist or two, and I like the bad boy better than the protags love interest...but that's always the case with me! Have you read the prequel?

Laura, I'm almost done with the second Dresden. It's faster paced, yet a tad more disjointed. I'm enjoying it though.

message 935: by Anne (new)

Anne I haven't read the prequel yet, Michelle. I agree with you about lovin' the bad boy! I'm not usually very invested in the 'love story' part of YA books. Most of the time they seem too sappy. I guess they need to be a little over the top to reach their demographic, though.

message 936: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Anne, sappy is right. (But I guess I was sappy at that age too.)

Lack of sappy is probably why I prefer the scowling little trouble-maker with the interested gleam in his eye. Darn it, the nice guys are always so boring!

message 937: by E.J. (new)

E.J. Stevens | 1 comments I'm currently reading "Bitter Things" by Andrew Valentine (vampire erotica/paranormal romance) and "Flesh and Spirit" by Carol Berg (dark fantasy).

I also just finished "White Witch, Black Curse" by Kim Harrison and can't wait for "Black Magic Sanction"!

Hahaha! I was crushing on the cute little reaper by the end of the book as well!

message 939: by Summer (new)

Summer (summerbp) | 40 comments Guess I'm behind with the group reading, but I'm plowing throgh "Covet" right now and mostly keeping my Warden-ism related giggles to a minimum. I always latch on to series that have ridiculous elements, but love them nonetheless.

After this, think I'll go for "Dreamfever" (after I reacquaint myself with Faefever...)

message 940: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Anne, did you peek at the reviews for the next one? Tod's in it. Yay!

The prequel is about her time at the hospital. It's a bit...disturbing. But there's a girl in it who's obviously something "other"--she gives it an interesting twist. It should be free on Vincent's website.

message 941: by Anne (new)

Anne Oooh! That sounds good! Can't wait!

message 942: by Nick (last edited Jan 02, 2010 07:56AM) (new)

Nick (penguin47) | 4 comments I usually have more than one book going at a time. Right now they are:
Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore
Under The Dome by Stephen King
The Battle of The Labyrinth by Rick Riordan
Wizard at Large by Terry Brooks

Has anyone read any of these and if so, what was your take on them?

Also, has anyone read these?
Jennifer Armintrout
The Lightworld/Darkworld Series:
Queene of Light (2009)
Child of Darkness (2009)
Veil of Shadows (2009)

If so, did you enjoy them?

message 943: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Nick, I'm a big Christopher Moore fan. Practical Demonkeeping is good, but it drags a little here and there. My favorites by him are A Dirty Job and Lamb. I started with those and he made me laugh out loud so often that now I'll read anything he writes.

message 944: by Nick (new)

Nick (penguin47) | 4 comments I loved A Dirty Job. I then started to read Bloodsucking Fiends and realized that they were tied together, just a tiny bit, but I did not want to ruin anything, so I am starting at the beginning. I heard one of his best is The Stupidest Angel. Have you read it?

message 945: by Anne (new)

Anne Finished Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger today. Not bad for the first book in a series.

message 946: by Paula (new)

Lynda Oops, forgot to check in. Have been having some eye problems since Dec. and have been a little out of touch.
I finished A Magical Christmas Cat, half of Lost (lent it to my best friend who wanted to read the JD Robb), several non-urban fantasy books, Jaz Parks 1 & 2. I am now starting Jaz Parks 3. The series is growing on me.

message 949: by Anne (new)

Anne Started Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin today. I can't believe I haven't heard more about this series. It really sucked me in from the first few pages!
