I'm glad to that hear you say that. I trust your reviews!

Yes, I thought it was very good! Can't wait to see the movie. The previews look very exciting!

I love the Fever series, too. Can't wait for the next book. I understand it's the last. I think Moning is spot on ending the story after this next one. It takes guts to know when you've played a story out as long as it should go and end on a high note. Well, I'm assuming and praying she'll end on a high note.

although I am sad it will be the last book, I have to agree with you...it takes guts to quit while you're ahead.

Reading

I started reading Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception. I have no idea whether or not it's a good book.

I read it last month and really liked it too--there was some plodding first book set up, but by the end, I was really interested in a lot of the characters and in seeing where the story goes.

Paula--how was on the edge? i am getting ready to read it.

Butting in with my 2 cents :)
It was good, but it was no Kate Daniels. The Edge series seems like it's going to be more PNR than UF (with a HEA each book) and I just so love the way Ilona & Gordon write the chase & sexual tension, that I was a tad bit disappointed to have it wrapped up with a pretty bow at the end of the book.

Yeah, I guess the next one in The Edge series is Bayou Moon.
It took me forever to realize the difference between PNR, UF and UFR. So, I guess the true categorization of PNR would be a book that revolves around 1 couple and that couple gets their HEA in a "pretty little bow" at the end of each book and then the next book in the series is about a totally different couple--there is a back story that links each book in the series (Black Dagger Brotherhood series). UF is more about the action/mystery/suspense and less about the romance--but is probably riddled with tons of sexual tension between characters (Moning's Fever series). UFR is a little of both--maybe be and hea, maybe not, but each book is about the same group of characters-generally speaking (Harris' Southern Vampire series and Frost's The Night Huntress Series).

There are so many fine lines between genres, so that is exactly how I differentiate PNR & UF--a PNR series takes place in the same universe, but each book has a different couple who get their pretty love bow at the end, and then subsequent books deal with other people in their world, and you get little drive bys from the past characters. (BDB, Psy-Changeling, Highlanders, etc.)
And UF has more action & suspense, and doesn't have to have romance, but if it does (and I hope it does) it is of the variety where the H&H fight with each other and fight with themselves over the stupid attraction they have to that idiot. And each book ends with you throwing the book across the room and yelling "would you two just DO IT already?!?!?!?" (Fever, Kate Daniels, Cassie Palmer, etc.)
Don't start bringing UFR into it, I'm going to be all confused. ;)
It's too hard for me to figure out the difference between PNR & UFR. Would you say PNR is a HEA where the romance is more central to the story than the action, and a UFR is a happy ending where the action is more central than the romance? That works for me, but it's such a fine line. :)
So if that's the case, On the Edge is UFR. :)

LOL--you sound just like me. I was like--who cares what it is classified as--I just want to read the darn books! Then, I wanted to make sure I was recommending the correct "genre" if people asked for specific recs for PNR or UF. I actually got scolded a little once when I ::gasp::recommended a PNR when they were looking for UF...whatever.
I actually gave UFR a little more attention when I couldn't fit a book into the neat little one couple per book HEA package for PNR or the UF that is mainly focusing on the action and suspense with sexual tension but not much action. I am certainly no expert, but I think your definition is a perfect fit for UFR--a happy ending where the action is more central than the romance. If you google "urban fantasy romance" Frost's Night Huntress comes up, as does Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series...
Just for kicks I added this link from amazon with their UFR "Listmania":

Yeah,..."
Cherra, thanks for the update on The Edge series. I'll have to add Bayou Moon to my list. Do you know if Rose is still going to be the main character? I started On the Edge, but all my library books came in at the same time so I had to put it on hold. I'm finishing up my last library book & I'm planning on picking it back up afterwards.
I also got scolded, but it was other way around. They wanted PNR & I gave them a UF series. You'd think it was Earth shattering. I hesitant of most PNR & if it has the Fabio-like cover I won't even go there.

William and Cerise appear to be the characters in The Edge #2. I am just starting the first one, so I dont know those characters yet.
I am with you on the covers. If they are cheesy I used to stay away from them, but I have come to learn that sometimes looks can be deceiving. It looks like you lean more towards the UF or UFR than PNR and in my experience, it is the PNR books that tend to have the "fabio-like" covers.

Amanda, Let me know what you think of Wicked Lovely. I met Melissa Marr at a book signing and really liked the book.

Jen, I used to feel the same as you about the Fabio covers, but I needed a pink covered book for a challenge a few months ago, and pink covers are hard to find, so I had to pick

Don't think about reading Graceling, do it. :)
While I enjoyed Wicked Lovely, I loved Graceling. Great story, and the sequel Fire is just as good, if not better.

slave to sensation was the first one that came to mind when i tought of cheesy covers :-)

Truly, that woman could sell twice as many books if she had different covers. I don't know what her publishers were thinking.
I guess there are people who look for those kinds of covers because then they know they are getting a romance, but there are just as many of us who also like romance but are embarrassed to be seen with those covers. :)

I saw these covers on another site--they are way better. Not so cheesy. I think you are right, she would sell more books if she would change the covers to something more universally appealing.

I picked up Angel's Blood, the first book in her Guild Hunter series. If I like that one, maybe I check out that series.

Unfortunately, the author has not control over the covers. The publisher and their art department picks everything and the only control the author has if the eye color is wrong. Such a bummer that the people who never read the book get to pick the covers.

I really like EVERNIGHT. I just started BLUE BLOODS and it's okay, so far, but not great.

Evernight has a very interesting twist in the middle of the book. I would recommend it for the shock factor alone. However, aside from that, I have to agree with you, Chakara. I read the second book in the series, Stargazer, but I doubt I'll read the next one. Nothing about the plot screamed, "Rush out and read the next one!".
Melodie, I was also disappointed with Blue Bloods. When I read what it was about I thought it sounded so cool, but the plot was just sort of...meh.

Uh, that sucks for the author--being as it is their writing that keeps them employed...but I guess everyone needs everyone in the publishing world.

yeah im in the middle of the book but i already new what was coming i just find it kinda strange how the reader is bought into it all the while she new it and we didnt but yet we are supposed to be in her head if u know what im talking about. if it was 3rd person the suprise would make more sense. Blue bloods i actually do not think i will like it but im going to try to put that out of my mind and try it out sorry to say if that book does not grab me i will be putting it down lol im no longer wasting my time on books that are not good. Thanx for the reply

Hi Chakara I would defnately recommend The Host by Stephanie Meyer a great book, but you need to give it time atleast 50 pages or so. I was releuctant to read The Host at first as I was disappointed with the ending of the Twilight saga Breaking Dawn..I just hated it. But loved the other 3 books. The Host is completely different and SM certainly has silenced her critics with this book, extremely imaginative and creative. City of Bones was ok kind of reminded me of Harry Potter in certain places though. I did not rush to read the 2nd and 3rd book in the series like I normally would If I have enjoyed a book so much. I also agree with Anne about Blue Bloods, was ok but not brilliant, it seems that nowadays if anyone writes something with vamps and weres it can get published. I did enjoy J.R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood. I also like Jim Butcher. Read House of Night first few were ok the last one sucked (no pun intended)

Emma, I agree with you about City of Bones. I wasn't sold on the series after reading it. In fact, it took me several months to get around to reading the next one. However, I found the the series got sooo much better after the first book.
House of Night is starting to wear down my nerves. I think the basic plot is good, but Zoe's stupid love triangles are starting to border of retarded. I'll read the next one, but it had better be spectacular.
Jim Butcher is one of my favorite authors! The Dresdin Files are some of the best books out there. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

I have to try those other books you mentioned I've only read the 7 Deadly Sins series and just started Vegas Vamps. I also agree about Jim Butcher, I love the Dresden Files books! I cant wait for Changes to come out either!

Thanks Anne for the info...I had actually given up on this series as I earlier mentioned it didnt really grip me, but after your post I will delve into the 2/3rd books. I am currently reading Kristen Cashore's Graceling and enjoying it.

I really hope you enjoy the rest of the Mortal Instruments series. Like I said, the action picks up, and the plot becomes far more interesting with the other two books. I thought the first book was an intro into creepy brother/sister love, or something! It had that Flowers in the Attic smell to it. LOL! I was afraid the next book would be about nothing but a skeezy incest story. If that's what what what you were thinking, too, don't worry about it.
