Finished The Gargoyle. It started off shaky, but turned out to be a great book. Finished reading Doubleblind by Ann Aguirre and finsihed listening to Shakespeare's Landlord. I am beginning On the Edge by Ilona Andrews.

Really? This June? I had no idea.
I'm still on my comic kick. Just finished
. Really liked it!
I got a little behind in reporting what I was reading.I finished 2-4 of the Enchanter's Inc. books. Liked them a lot. Light and funny. Also finished a Professional Sportscaster's Guide to Football. Helpful but not great. Finished Coffin Club by Schrieber. I have on more of this series that I own and I will see after that if I want to buy any more.
I've also been reading some comic books. I read the first issue of Spartacus: Blood and Sand based on the upcoming TV miniseries that's going to air on STARZ in January. That's urban, but historical and definitely not fantasy.
I finished Royal Blood by Ellen Schrieber very fast. Liked it. As far as I am concerned it is the end of the series. No more for me.I am starting Skinwalker by Faith Hunter. Looks like a comfortably adult read. I am tired of teen fiction for a while.
Skinwalker was quite good. I'm looking forward to the sequel.I just started Walking Dead, the most recent book in The Walker Papers series. So far it's a fun read.
Shomeret wrote: "Skinwalker was quite good. Last week I read Strength in What Remains which is amazing nonfiction. Then I read Fire by Kristin Cashore and I loved it!!!
Paper Cities: An Anthology of Urban Fantasy is a collection only for completists. It's got a very fluid definition of a city: anytime, any place, few must read stories.
Today I finished Where the Kissing Never Stops a YA boy's novel.
I am about to start First Lord's Fury, Jim Butcher's new (and last?) Codex book.
I haven't been here for awhile except to add books to my lists. My screen at work can be seen now so no more "slacking" lol. I just finished Smashed Story of a Drunken Girlhood. I loved this book.
I am going to be starting Demons Not Included A Night Tracker Novel tonight.

So Fire was as good as Graceling? I have it on my shelf and will read it soon, but I was worried.
Okay, I just started Covet for the monthly read. I like it so far, but would totally get how PNR folks would not.
Sandy wrote: "I finished Betrayals which I really enjoyed and just started Unclean Spirits"Hi Sandy,
Let me know what you think of Unclean Spirits I've been thinking about buying it, but would like to get an opinion before purchasing.
Thanks!
Has anyone read anything that has just blown their socks off, lately? I'm looking for something really good to read.
I'm reading the 1st Cassie Palmer.
This woman must be a wizard of an author if I am going to be loving Pritkin in the future, cuz there is absolutely nothing redeeming about him at this point, besides his ability to kick ass.
And is it wrong that I think Cassie should forgive Tomas? He's still my fave so far, betrayal or not.
Anne, I checked out your book list to see if you read the Fever series since those are my most recent "blew my socks off" books, but I see you have, and that you agree with me. :)But I see you haven't read either of these series yet, and they're both at the top of my UF list with the Fevers.

I expected nothing of Unclean Spirits when I picked it up, and I ended up rating it a 5 - I thought it was fantastic. I did a little digging, and the writer is an experienced fantasy writer using a pseudonym, though his other books look like traditional fantasy - unclean spirits is urban fantasy.

Laura, I think it was book 2 that I fell head over heels in love with Pritkin. He is my favorite character in that series.
Anne asked in #776:>Has anyone read anything that has just blown their socks off, lately?
Graceling by Kristin Cashore.
I also agree with Laura about the Kate Daniels books by Ilona Andrews. Looking at your favorites Anne, do you only like urban fantasy? The Kate Daniels books are urban fantasy. Graceling is fantasy.
The Hunger Games is supposed to be great. In fact, I finally requested it from my library yesterday. It's science fiction, I think.
Michelle asked in #771:
>So Fire was as good as Graceling?
As good? Hmmm...
It's very, very good.
But it's not the continuation of Katsa & Po's story that'll come next spring (?) and that's the story I wanted *now.* This takes place outside the seven kingdoms and has a different magical system. I liked the story very much. I'm curious about whatever Cashore writes based on these two novels.
Anne wrote: "Has anyone read anything that has just blown their socks off, lately? I'm looking for something really good to read."I read
and really loved it! It's the 7th in the series.
Oh! I forgot about that series! I've read three or four of them...Good stuff! I need to start back into those books again. Thanks, Melodie!I'll check out the Kate Daniels book. Thanks, Julia!
Still rereading [image error] between comics. I finished
I'm working on
.

I read half of Unclean Spirits in about two hours last night. I finally made myself put it down because I had to be able to get up and go to work in the morning.
Anne wrote: "Has anyone read anything that has just blown their socks off, lately? I'm looking for something really good to read."Anne,
I see that you have Rosemary and Rue on your TBR list. I really enjoyed that and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great I'll make sure to pick it up next time I'm at the bookstore!
Anne, I just finished
[image error]
and it was the first 5 star read I've read in a while. It was a gorgeous story. Mostly a love story, but with a mysterious plot revolving around the couple.
Theresa wrote: "Laura wrote: "And is it wrong that I think Cassie should forgive Tomas? He's still my fave so far, betrayal or not. "No, I think she should forgive Tomas, too. But, then, Tomas was also my fave.
I've read the first three books, and I'm still kinda squicked about the whole Pritkin thing.
Of course, I also maintain I was tricked into this series and I didn't realize it was so heavily PNR when I picked it up. Can't trust 'UF' anymore, it seems. :>

Bear in mind, I made that comment about 2/3 through the 1st book--now that I've finished it, a few things have changed. :)
It's kind of weird going into a series like this with 4 dudes, but knowing in advance who a lot of people like--it kind of skews your opinions. I knew that people liked Mircea, but I knew a lot more who loved Pritkin, so reading the 1st book made me look for any redeeming quality in Pritkin (to no avail) and it made me shy a bit away from Mircea. And it made me long for Tomas because no one talks about him on the boards, so I knew it couldn't be good for him. :)

Anne wrote: "I want to read [image error], too. I've heard they are making a movie out of it."I can't keep up with these books. Luckily I read The Lightning Thief this past spring and beat the movie coming out.

That's good to hear Cherra! There are a couple other gals in one of my other groups that have been RAVING about this series. I got it from my cousin who was getting rid of a bunch of books so I figured I'd give it a shot. I really want to read her Fever series too....

I didn't have much romance--more like sexual tension and was more about the mystery, suspense and action. So UF is what I would classify it as--where as the Highlander series...at least the one I read was PNR.
PS...Loving the Riley Jensen Series--way more that I anticipated!
I just finished
Well unfortunately I can only say this first book was just OK for me. I found the two female characters kinda annoying and childish. I did think there was some smart and witty writing so I will try the next book in the series and hopefully it will get better. I'm now moving on to
Oh, Susan! You have to read the Fever series! It's awesome!Danielle, I read The Lightning Thief earlier this year, too. I'm trying to read it to the kids right now, so that they can see the difference between the book and the movie.
Did you like The Lightning Thief, Anne? I'm excited about the movie. My boo, Sean Bean, is playing Zeus. Nice casting, choice! :)
Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "Did you like The Lightning Thief, Anne? I'm excited about the movie. My boo, Sean Bean, is playing Zeus. Nice casting, choice! :)"I think Kevin McKidd as Poseidon is a great choice too.
Actually, the casting for this entire movie is superb! The kids are a bit older, but I think they might be trying to make it more appealing to teens.
Yes, Warner Bros bought the rights for [image error] before the actual release of the book. There are lots of my favorite books being made in to movies now.

.Mind you, none have actually started production, just been optioned so they might never happen, but I can hope!

I am reading it to my kids too, for the same reason. :)

I didn't realize Kevin was in that too!!! I cannot wait to get my drool on. Love the yummy Brits. That's awesome that they are making so many great books into movies. I'm not sure about the Miley Cyrus casting in Wings, though.
^ I was hoping that was a horrible rumour! I cannot imagine her as Laurel. To me Laurel is dainty, fragile, pixie like.
