Tiffany Happy Friday the 13th!

What would you like to read in October? There's no theme for October, so nominate whatever you want!

I'll take suggestions through Tuesday the 17th, and then the polls will be open until the 23rd. That will leave everyone with a week to get the book before October begins.

Doctor Sleep. I'd like to read that.

It would be a natural follow-up to this month's read.

message 10: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Yes, I plan to read Dr. Sleep as so many are. That'd be the perfect group read for October.

message 11: by Karie (new)

Karie I'll also nominate Dr. Sleep...just finished rereading The Shining and will be reading it anyway.

message 12: by Erik (new)

Erik Curre (ecurre) | 19 comments I also vote for Doctor Sleep. Really, did you have to ask? :-)

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Seems logically after the Shining...DR. SLEEP

message 14: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments Looks like a vote won't even be necessary, lol! I'm in.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Most of us will be reading Doctor Sleep anyway...

Gets my vote. :)

Doctor Sleep--my copy won't be here until the first week of October (hopefully), but I'll jump right in!

message 17: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) I pre-ordered Dr. Sleep as well and would love to read that in October as a group read.

message 18: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany The poll is up: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/10...

It will last until the 21st (I decided to have a shorter voting window since the response of this thread has been pretty one-sided lol)

Barbara (Booslittlehausofhorror) Drake | 2 comments This is my first group read! I am so excited! So I just start reading in October? Are there any deadlines or any other rules??? Thanks I can't wait!!!!

message 20: by Mortem (new)

Mortem Soma | 6 comments I've got this all lined up and ready for October. It will be my first group read too. Can I ask how it works too?

message 21: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) Anyone who misses this in October, Dr Sleep will be the November read in the Stephen King Fans group.

message 22: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Mortem wrote: "I've got this all lined up and ready for October. It will be my first group read too. Can I ask how it works too?"

At the beginning of October, there will be another thread in this folder for our monthly group read. Then everyone will just discuss the book for that month. It's very informal, and anyone can discuss whatever aspects of the book that they want, but we would like people to use spoiler tags if they're going to discuss anything that could give something important away.

message 23: by Mortem (new)

Mortem Soma | 6 comments Cool. Thanks for letting me know :)

message 24: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments So how many of us are starting Doctor Sleep today?

message 25: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments I would be starting it today except that I am trying to finish The Shining and haven't got my copy of Doctor Sleep yet! I preordered it and can't remember where I ordered it from...man, that's lame!

message 26: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 964 comments Enjoy it. I'll read it when I can afford to pick up a copy.

I preordered mine h/c from Amazon, and the status has said "shipping now" for the past 3 days.... I'm guessing it's still in a warehouse somewhere!

message 28: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I read the intro in the latest issue of Cemetery Dance a few days ago and became immediately rabid with excitement about this release. But yeah, King's books are always way overpriced. Even the Kindle version is high but 20 years ago I was paying double for his hardcovers. Still, happiness would be a $2.99 SK novel release for Kindle.

But when it comes to the shining this isn't just a release, it's an event :) !!!!!

message 29: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments My copy of Doctor Sleep was waiting for me when I got home. Now if I was just able to spend the night with a bottle of scotch, my slippers, my lazy boy and this book... But alas life does not stop for a new King book... Or at least my wife and kids won't let me....

That's such as epic title though, they should understand :)

message 31: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) The nice thing about having Jury duty next week. I will have lots of time to read Doctor Sleep!

message 32: by Ed (new)

Ed Anderson | 4 comments Just picked up a copy of Doctor Sleep at Costco. Can't wait to start reading.

Still waiting for mine to ship from Amazon--grrr!

message 35: by Greg (new)

Greg | 383 comments I downloaded my Kindle copy on Tuesday on my way to work it was only slightly over $10 I didn't think that was unreasonable at all.

I'm about 100 pages in

message 36: by Erik (new)

Erik Curre (ecurre) | 19 comments Just got my copy of Doctor Sleep for Kindle today. I'm not that far in yet, but loving the way it just hooks you from the get-go. Looking forward to the October discussion thread.

Barbara (Booslittlehausofhorror) Drake | 2 comments Ahhh I want to read it so bad but after hearing how awesome The Shining is I feel like I have to read it first! But I read fast so hopefully will be done in a few days and be able to start for Oct!!!! So excited!!

message 38: by ZoeyBB (new)

ZoeyBB (sjnovak3) | 95 comments I have mine on my kindle but I REFUSE to begin until October 1. I am very rigid about such things. Some people say I'm no fun. They are correct.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I have mine on my nook but I'm waiting too. :)

message 40: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) I have mine already. But I have 1Q84 on loan from the library and am madly trying to finish it before it is due before starting Dr Sleep

I am waiting because Amazon STILL hasn't shipped my copy yet....October sounds about right. :)

message 42: by Erik (new)

Erik Curre (ecurre) | 19 comments I deliberately didn't start reading anything new in the couple weeks before Doctor Sleep came out. And finished reading The Shining earlier in the month. So now I can just jump right in. I love it when a plan comes together!

Luckily, a friend of mine gave me the ebook because I still can't remember where I bought the advanced hardcover? wtf? I thought I ordered it through Amazon, but I guess not. Cemetery Dance maybe? Crap.

LOL, Bill! I "gifted" my sister the kindle version, with the condition that she "loan" it to me first. (She has to re-read the SHINING first, anyhow). Then we find out that SK kindle books CAN NOT be loaned.....sigh!

message 45: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments I have not waited, I started reading and it's great. You guys go ahead and wait, I've waited too long already.

That is a bummer! For $12+ dollars for the Kindle ebook you should be able to loan it 10 times!! ;)

message 47: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Heads up, folks! Doctor Sleep is $7.49 right now in Kindle format. (Yesterday it was $12 and some change.)

message 48: by Dee (new)

Dee | 26 comments I'm another one who has already started Doctor Sleep. So far it's great and I'm REALLY happy that I re-read The Shining for the September group read. The two books really flow together almost seamlessly.

message 49: by Ed (new)

Ed Anderson | 4 comments Already 150 pages into Dr. Sleep, but just picked up a copy of The Shining. Don't know whether to stop reading Dr. Sleep or read Shining afterwards. Any suggestions?

message 50: by Greg (new)

Greg | 383 comments Ed I think you'll be ok. I'm about 150 pages in and while its nice having read the shining recently I don't think you're going to miss much. However if you have no experience with the shining whatsoever you probably want to start there. I'm just assuming everyone has at least seen the movie.
