20.6. Seasoned Reader - Jen UT's Task: Only in New York!
*Pseudonyms are okay for this task. For example, if you have read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, you could read The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith.*Approved for Option A:
Approved for Option B:
I think I will rescue this one from my past unread SRC books:
(option B).It certainly reflects my usual feeling!
for Option B:
by Francesco Marciuliano
would this work? Its got books on the cover and i have never read anything by Francesco Marciuliano
by Francesco Marciulianowould this work? Its got books on the cover and i have never read anything by Francesco Marciuliano
Does pseudonym work as 'new to me author' if I never read a book under that name?If so does this one work
?

That works great! :)
Rosemary wrote: "When you say a "skyline", does it have to be a city skyline? Or would something like this qualify:

❀Tea❀ wrote: "Does pseudonym work as 'new to me author' if I never read a book under that name?If so does this one work
?"Yes, pseudonyms work! And that cover works.
(I just read that book a couple of weeks ago... I'll be interested to see if you like it!)
Andy wrote: "Will this one work? This Book Is Overdue!: How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All?"
Yes! That can work for Option B either as the librarian as the main character, or the cover option, since there are books on the cover.
I might have to read that one myself. :)

Jayme VA wrote: "Does this one work for Option A?
The skyline is a bit small."Ya, that works! It's big enough that you can tell it's a skyline. :)
For books about librarians, I would like to use A Hidden Fire I only know it from its description, and also its only an ebook, so I need it approved on both counts.
I have a book that probably works for option A with a skyline of Seattle.
but ... it won't work for me since I already read The Highest Tide by the author.

Dana, that looks like it will work! I approve!

Janet, thanks for the suggestion, that looks great!
Could I get The Shadow of the Wind
approved? It's on the list of books about librarians and I'm pretty sure that's a large open book on the cover.
Amanda (Pearl the Book Girl) wrote: "Could I get The Shadow of the Wind
approved? It's on the list of books about librarians and I'm pretty sure that's a large open book on the cover."That would work for the cover option for Option B, as for the librarian as a main character what I can tell from the description is that the main character is the son of a book seller (someone correct me if I'm wrong! I haven't read this book before!) so that wouldn't work. But the book works for the cover option!
Jen wrote: "Amanda (Pearl the Book Girl) wrote: "Could I get The Shadow of the Wind

I just realized that the book I picked for this task won't work because the author isn't new to me.Will this work for option b?
The main character is a the library director (so I'm assuming she must have been a librarian at some point?). The cover also contains a book -- though at first glance, it might not look like a book. :)

Yes! I definitely count a director of a library as a librarian. :) And it also works for the cover option.

Thanks! :D
Deana wrote: "
for option A"Wow, sorry it took so long to reply... grad school is kicking my butt! Yes, that is a great one for a skyline!
How about this book cover for option A?
But I just realized I can't use it since it I just read the first book in the series by the same author , LOL.

Oh, too bad! But yes, this would work for Option A!
Evana wrote: "Will either of these covers work for a Option A's skyline?
"Yes, both of those will be fine!
Dee wrote: "does this work for skyline -
"Oo, this is a tricky one. I'm going back to my original definition of a group/row of buildings defined against the sky, and this one I can't tell at the horizon if there are buildings or not. There are a couple of buildings that are defined against the sky, but they're not grouped together, so I'm going to have to say no for this one.

I just made the move to New York State to go to graduate school, so I decided to base my task around my move! Since I moved to a NEW place that I've never been, please read a book by a NEW author that you've never read. Fiction or non-fiction may be used for any option.
REQUIRED: Please state in your post that the author is new to you.
Choose one option and read one book from that option.
REQUIRED: If using a cover option, please include the cover in your post.
Option A: Read a book set in New York State OR a book that has a skyline on the cover. REQUIRED: If the setting is not clear from the Goodreads description, please tell how it fits the option.
Examples for cover option:.
Option B: I am going to graduate school for Library Science. For this option, read a book where the main character is a librarian OR a book that has one or more books on the cover. This list may give you some ideas: Books About Librarians
Option C: I am going to Syracuse University, which is known for their basketball team. (Go Orangemen!) For this option, either read a book where the main character is an athlete, OR a book that has one or more sports balls on the cover.
