As always... read as many or as few as you want, based on real, although odd and wacky holidays.

Sep is Self Improvement Month - Read a DIY mystery or self-help book.

Sep 6 is Read a Book Day - All you have to do is read a book that day, any book. And not even the whole book. Enjoy! Pssst.... that's tomorrow!!

Sep 13 is Blame Someone Else Day - first Friday the 13th of the year. Read a book where someone is superstitious or blames someone else.

Sep 19 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Always a favorite. Read a book about Pirates or something that takes place on the high seas. Bonus: Talk like a pirate that day. :)

Sep 28 is Ask a Stupid Question Day - Read a book where at least one character would qualify for this.

Barb | 1050 comments LOL @ Sep 28's task. Isn't there someone that does that in almost *every book? :)

Yeah, especially in mystery's. Blame Someone Else is pretty easy too since the guilty rarely admit it. Still, they were some of the more interesting wacky holiday's to choose from. And not all holidays can easily correspond with a reading challenge.

message 4: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1050 comments Oh I know :) I've looked at some of those holidays and laughed, but they would be really hard to turn into a reading challenge!

Oh, sure...throw that one in after I've already read Life of Pi. Would have had that high seas option easy-peasy! I don't know that I have anything else that will fit. :-\

Heather, there are quite a few books that take place on cruise ships. Like Murder on the QE2 (Murder, She Wrote). And yes, it doesn't have to be a mystery. The Pirate by Jayne Ann Kretnz. Or Pirates by Linda Lael Miller (Time Travel). Just a few off my own shelves.

Murder on the QE2 (Murder, She Wrote, #9) by Jessica Fletcher The Pirate (Ladies and Legends, #1) by Jayne Ann Krentz Pirates by Linda Lael Miller

Thanks for the suggestions! I know it can be any genre, just trying to figure out if I have anything in Mount TBR that might work. Actually, I just remembered while posting in the "splurge" thread that I have two YAs by Rick Riordan on loan from my sister, and one of those might work.

Yes, a lot of the Rick Riordan books would qualify.

Barb | 1050 comments Can we count the books we've already read in September? Or do we start from today?

message 11: by ஐ Briansgirl (Book Queen)ஐ, Cozy Mysteries Group Owner (new)

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Queen)ஐ (briansgirlkate) | 1576 comments Mod
You can start from Sep 1st.

message 12: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1050 comments Thanks. I'll probably be back later to sign up officially :)

message 13: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1050 comments In looking at the books I've already read this month, and the books I 'need' to read for other challenges, I've decided to pass on this one. I would only be able to complete three of the tasks, and I could fill in those three with books I've already finished in September. It seems silly to sign up, fill in tasks already finished and finish on the same day :) I'll watch for next month's challenge though!

Donna | 27 comments Ahoy maties! Today be ye olde Talk Like a Pirate Daye...me favorite holiday! Aye, I look forward to it every year. Today after working with my preschool class, I say,"yo ho ho (and I need) a bottle of rum!"

I read Any Port in a Storm Any Port in a Storm (A Jolie Gentil Cozy Mystery #4) by Elaine Orr which is about a murder at a Talk Like a Pirate Day function. I believe I got it free for my Kindle last year. It was pretty good, but it is the fourth in the series and they kept referring to things that had happened previously. Arrrgh!
