Aaron The one I'm thinking of was published probably late 80's or very early 90's, had a main character with the first name of Dakota (I think that was his name, anyway; probably an analog of Indiana Jones, I'm not sure) who had a Native American partner/sidekick. The book was made up of invented documents (memos, dossiers, photographs) with which the reader was supposed to solve a mystery in the vein of Encyclopedia Brown. Dakota would leave periodic notes and use the closing "I'm outta here". I think I remember the book being part of a series. I've run several different Google searches and have browsed through the asked-for-more-than-once list but have found no leads.
