I am interested but not sure I will have the time. I'll add this to the Upcoming Readalongs list.
Kara wrote: "Would anyone like to join me in reading Journey to the Center of the Earth"I read that not very long ago - hope you enjoy it!
Alannah wrote: "Would anyone be interested in a readalong of The Great Gatsby?"Great book, but I read it no long ago. would be happy to follow the discussion though.
I wouldn't mind re-reading it at all Alannah, but I signed up for such a staggering number of readalong already - after these, I want to take a short break :)

It's alright, I wasn't planning to rush right into it. If you're still up for it, let me know when you plan to finish your break.

Allanah ,You probably already know by my response to a question on the Gatsby thread that I love this book . I have read it several times so I won't be rereading it at this point but I would love to join in the conversation . I'm looking forward to seeing what you and others think !
I will definitely do that Alannah! If November isn't too late, I could definitely do it then, maybe even the second half of October. :)
If anyone wants to do a read-along/buddy read with me then here are the ones I am thinking about doing, four I placed down I want to read for my All Hallows Read reads for October so far and three are ebooks you can get for free on Smashwords. Let me know if any of them interest you, thanks:Jane Slayre: The Literary Classic with a Blood-Sucking Twist

Eric wrote: "How do readalongs go?"Eric have you seen our folder readalongs? It's here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
You can join in on any of them and like Amber said, it's basically just 2 or more people reading a book together. A bit like a group read but smaller.

Of course it is.
Of course it is.

I love this idea of a readalong. How exactly does it work? I have been planning to read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings for a while, Heather, so would be happy to join your readalong. Do you discuss the books in this thread, or do you have specific threads for each book?
Gail, here is our readalong-folder Once the thread is set up you'll be able to find it there. If I remember correctly it is scheduled for October. You can double-check here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Gail wrote: "Ah, great, thanks Jenny - I'm new to this group so hadn't figured out the folders yet."Hope you enjoy the group, Gail. I've met you in Bookish previously.
Hi Gill - yes, I recognise you from Bookish. :-) I thought I'd try joining some other groups as well, for some different challenges and group reads. I like this idea of doing readalongs.
I will probably be asking a lot of questions myself seeing that I am new to the group as well. Please have patience with me lol.
Shellie wrote: "I will probably be asking a lot of questions myself seeing that I am new to the group as well. Please have patience with me lol."We're a very patient lot, Shellie. Ask away!
How do your readalongs work? Do I purchase the book and we all read and comment on a daily basis or can we do comment a couple times a week (asking because of my work schedule).
Readalongs are usually a small group of people coming together to read a specific book. If you look at my comment for Gail (message 380) you'll find the both the readalong folder and the thread for upcoming readalongs. Sometimes it's just two people who realized they are about to read the same book, sometimes they are scheduled a few month in advance...it's very informal. And you comment as much and how often as you want. If you are well ahead of everyone, you can always use the 'spoiler' function, to NOT spoil it ;)
Jean and I were thinking of reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson in celebration of Halloween. Some may be familiar with her eerie story "The Lottery," which used to be taught regularly in the American school system (and perhaps still is). Anyone interested to join us is welcome! Jean, when should we make this start?
Perfect, thanks :) Don't worry if I "go dark" as the theatre people say, for a week just before that. I'll be back online for it :)
Ok, Jean - anyway "going dark" for a brief interval allows for a spectacular re-entrance. Any color spotlight you prefer? :)
LOL! Well I had my hair coloured purple yesterday, (seriously!) so it mustn't clash with that. (A very tasteful purple you understand. Plum base, purple highlights - very rich :) )
I'm just picking up Splintered by A.G. Howard, if anyone is interested in a read a long that would be really fun!
At the moment I've got too many books "in my hands": I'lll joyin in Greg and Gill for the end of october though!
Greg wrote: "Jean and I were thinking of reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson in celebration of Halloween. Some may be familiar with her eerie story "The Lottery," w..."I'd like to join in. Just put a request in at the library for it and should have it by the last week of October.
Looking forward to this. I recently read We Have Always Lived in the Castle and enjoyed that.
Sandy wrote: "Has the readalong of The Great Gatsby started yet, or have I missed it?"I don't think it's started yet, Sandy. Last think I saw, people were chatting about what date to start. But I'm afraid I don't remember where I saw that!

I propose to start with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings which is the first autobiography and will be reading in October.
I have also posted this on the poetry thread.
So far it's me, Jean and Greg. Anybody else?
