Would anyone like to join me in reading ...?

I am also happy to start reading in the new year :)
IVANHOE is an interesting book. It was part of the syllabus when I did my college studies and the professor was so good. All the students ended up loving the book.
Tracey wrote: "Rebecca that's brilliant let me know when and I will be there :)"How do you feel about a fairly early in the year start?
Mid January maybe?

Do! I can't even say it is a book for children: more and more adults should read it. It would be more efficacious against wars and violence than 1000s of demonstrations. And with a smile, and a laugh.

I'd love to join the Middlemarch read whenever it gets started. It's always been on my TBR list. I started it once but just couldn't get very far into it.
I'll do another readalong next year. Just been busy with my read4reviews and other reads now. I hope everyone is enjoying city of bones. I just couldn't get through it. :)
Several of us noticed that we hadn't read The Scarlet Letter, which was pick #16 in the Guardian's '100 best books written in English' feature. Is anyone interested in reading this sometime this year? And if so, when?

I wouldn't mind joining, I studied a couple of chapters a couple of years and found it really interesting but I never got around to reading it. Maybe a readalong might help.

I might be up for it later in the year! I've already read it once but I don't really remember it much, so a reread will be good.

I think around that time would be good, maybe not early May because of my dissertation deadline. It might end up being mid-June when I'm finished university.

June sounds good to me too Alannah. Is that OK for everyone? Should I add it to the upcoming readalong list?
I'll wait till nearer the time, to see what other commitments I have. If I've got time, I'll re-read it with you all
I'm planning on a readalong for February of the book The Shining Girls so if anyone wants to read that one with me, let me know. I'm doing a readalong of this one at another group too. thanks.

Christine
Hey awesome Christine! I have to get it at the library first and am planning to put it on hold at the end of the month so I can get it next month so I will let you know when we'll start. You are the first person to do it with me here and got a few at the 2014 reading challenge group doing it with me there so it should be fun. I made a thread for it on the readalongs section Christine so when we all get the book we'll all be ready for it in feb.
Is anyone interested in reading either The Red and the Black or The Charterhouse of Parma in the late summer? I'm planning ahead!
I could be persueded to give 'The Charterhouse...' another try sometime this year. Started it and couldn't finish, but then that happened to me the first time I attempted 'The Red and the Black' as well, and when I tried for a second time I ended up really liking it.
Thanks for the responses. Shall we go withThe Charterhouse of Parma? I'm happy with midAugust or any time in September. What do people prefer?
Gill wrote: "Is anyone interested in reading either The Red and the Black or The Charterhouse of Parma in the late summer? I'm planning ahead!"I am interested by both of these! If you are going to read The Charterhouse of Parma mid-August (which sounds good to me by the way), then I might read The Red and the Black once I am done with Middlemarch...
Leslie: I'm interested in both too. Could you hold off on The Red and Black for a little while? Maybe March or April?
Katy wrote: "Leslie: I'm interested in both too. Could you hold off on The Red and Black for a little while? Maybe March or April?"Yes sure! I think that Middlemarch will keep me busy for a while, and I have a sci fi omnibus that I have been waiting to read (Young Miles).
@Gill, I will put The Charterhouse of Parma in the upcoming readalong list for August then, OK?
I passed through Parma last spring and was terribly disappointed to see la Certosa: it can be seen only from outside and it is nothing special! I had seen the one in Pavia a couple of days before and that's breathtaking!
Said this I maybe be joying you later on with Stendal's book

off topic! Certosa di Pavia
LauraT wrote: "Isn't it great? Also the "chiostro" inside is fabolous!!!"I was there too more than 20 years ago. It's really wonderful.
I had been there with my father - he was from Pavia - as kid and I wanted to show to my children so we went there this spring before getting to Torino to the book fair. Getting back we stopped in Parma for its Certosa, but it is definitly not the nicest thig to see of that town!!
