I think I found the book on worldcat and I added it to Goodreads http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18... but I cannot find a cover, a description. There are no copies for sale on amazon.com, or half.com or ebay.

Any ideas about how I can get more info about this book so if I could determine if it's one of my "always wondered about" books from my childhood?

Found this on a site: "It's about a bear for sale in a toy shop worried that he'll be reduced if no-one buys him but he doesn't want to go to any child that comes in, for example he doesn't want to be bought by this boy who
'was holding a pistol, shooting everyone in sight. "You're dead' he said to the teddy bears aiming his pistol'
when the boy picked him up roughly to make sure he wasn't bought by him 'he did what he had never done before and bit the child's hand so he dropped him at once'"

Can't say I remember that part clearly, maybe though. I feel like the cover would seal it for me.

It appears only a university in Texas has the book according to WorldCat...

bookel | 4029 comments Ah see you found it already. :) I couldn't find any covers.

Thanks! I kept looking and found that also.

Texas eh... That is a long way from me. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone comes across this post and has it on their physical bookshelf and can upload some images.

The fact that it's not available makes me think there weren't many copies therefore unlikely that I would of ever came across it when I was a wee little thing.

bookel | 4029 comments London : Bancroft, 1968. Bancroft sounds like a small publisher indeed. I feel for you. I'm in a similar situation with a book I know I grew up with and I know the title and author. But no copies available at all.

bookel | 4029 comments Looks like it was once on ebay France, so keep a saved search on it? Someone may list it eventually.

bookel | 4029 comments From Google Books, looks like Ainsworth had several books published by Bancroft & Co. Neither addall.com nor bookfinder.com bring up anything.

Thanks. It was your tip I saw you gave someone else about really dialing in on the details on worldcat that helped. It was great being able to give years and audience etc. There are alot of books with Boris in them. Alot of them being in current years, and being able to get to fuss with the parameters was helpful.

Katharine | 9 comments Could it have a different title? Ainsworth also wrote a book called The Bear Who Liked to Hug People. Along with being published on its own, it is also in a treasury. Here's the link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Kingfisher-...

You can't see the story or pictures, but it's all I could find close to a bear story by Ainsworth...lots of others of hers, but not the one you are looking for. Your local librarian might have access to resources unavailable to the general public or be able to direct you to reference books/sites. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Katharine | 9 comments Just saw your other posts...doesn't sound like it was The Bear Who Liked to Hug People. :)

Different thought: Could it be Wiesman's Morris & Boris books? Boris is a bear, just not a teddy bear.

Thanks for that but it's the "Boris" and the year, early 70s, that I am hunting. If I could find out the name of this hugging bear, and it was Boris, then maybe :)

Not Amos, Morris or Billion in the Title of the book. He was definately a teddy bear unless of course my memory is wrong.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... The Bear Who Liked to Hug People and other stories is available through inter-lib loan. Maybe it's in there... I requested it and will update this post when I check it out.

EDIT: Just saw that these are the other stories: --The witch's cat.--Beware of the bull.--Miranda and the mermaid.--Knock, knock, who's there?--George's picnic.--Winkle the witch.--The ship without a captain.--Mr. Velvet's bad deeds.--Pom-Pom the clown.--The moon walk.--Pix!Pax!Pox!--Miss Peggy Top.

So that hope is dashed but I'll at least get to update Goodreads once it gets here

I found a copy on amazon.com. I can't believe it. I ordered it and it's on it's way. Seller claimed it was in excellent condition.
