Tasha Turner (tashaturner) I don't know what you were doing before your book was out to build a fan base or what you've done since its come out.

Below is some basic advice I give to people.

Don't expect to see your book selling right away especially if you did not build a social media platform before publishing your book. Sales frequently don't really start coming in until sometime between your third-seventh book/story. The best promotion is your next book/short story/serial. But people also have to know its for sale which is what you platform is for.

In my opinion you should be spending between 75-80% of your time writing/editing you next book/story & the rest of the time promoting but don't constantly post/tweet "buy my book" - that's spam

Read my blog starting with http://tasha-turner.com/social-networ... & then read the rest of the post skipping the book reviews. I am not good about posting regularly as a month after I started blogging I was hit by a Mack truck. My 1st post is in February 2012. I'd estimate I have ~50 post if you skip book reviews.

You need an author website. preferably WordPress.org/standalone that is based on your author name (for example www.johndoe.com) An author website should load fairly quickly. It should have the following pages: blog, books/WIPs, about author, contact page, press room (http://bit.ly/18bPT27 )

Below are a few blogs I recommend to help you learn the industry as well as writing, editing, marketing, these are ones I follow religiously:

Dean Wesley Smith http://www.deanwesleysmith.com/ writing/publishing

Kristine Kathryn Rusch http://www.kristinekathrynrusch.com/ writing/publishing/getting books into stores

David Gaughran http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com/ writing/social media/selling/avoiding scams Let's Get Digital: How To Self-Publish, And Why You Should & Let's Get Visible: How To Get Noticed And Sell More Books

David Farlands "daily kick in the pants" http://www.davidfarland.net/ writing

Kristen Lamb http://warriorwriters.wordpress.com/ Social media/selling/writing. You might want to grab a copy of her book Rise of the Machines--Human Authors in a Digital World its a great book on how to use social media to sell books

Indies Unlimited http://www.indiesunlimited.com/ has posts and tutorials on just about anything you might want to do and is a really supportive community

Tasha Turner (tashaturner) Goodreads as an author
Here are a number of links on using Goodreads as an author. Some of the information overlaps but I don't think it hurts to read it worded differently as some of it makes the difference between you being a welcome member on GR or being considered a spammer.
