Kristina (oitnblover96) | 7 comments I would say twilight for the one that everyone seems to hate and for one that everyone seems to love I would say the Fever series

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments I'm probably going to be in trouble for this... but the Crossfire series (yes, it's romance and not PNR) but... I am SO not a fan... can't even bring myself to want to borrow book #3...

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim *Mo Chridhe* (kimthebookcrier) | 3 comments The one that everyone seems to love but I hate? I wouldn't say hate because I've enjoyed what I read so far, even gave the last I read 5 stars, but I don't think I can go on with the BDB series anymore. The stories sound repetitive and I HATED the multiple POVs, most especially getting the POV of the Lessers. I want to feel intimidated by villains! But getting their POV allows me to see their weaknesses, and in doing so, I can't feel threatened, or be worried for the main characters. Not enough angst for my liking.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments I really dislike the Night Huntress series. I couldn't get past the first chapter-hated Cat. I bought Once Burned thinking I might like that better. Nope. Hated Vlad though I did manage to get through several chapters before giving up. I'm probably the only one who dislikes the series.

Thank you Kim. I too hate the BDB series. The villains are laughable, hate the heroes, don't like the way that Ward writes (I will confess to slight OCD tendencies, and deliberate misspellings drive me BONKERS), her heroines are total wimps and filled me with an intense urge to belt them upside the head and scream at them about how DUMB they are. And did I mention that her writing style stinks? However, she has GREAT ideas. Now, if she'd just SOLD the idea or had gotten in a writing partner, I see how the series could have been sssooo much better. . .

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) What a fun topic!

Did not like Hunger Games either. We could form a club of 2.
But the paranormal author I just cannot read and I've tried several times is Gena Showalter. I've tried two different series and it doesn't matter. Just don't like her books.
Now I admit to loving Christine Feehan, but I totally understand why people hate her. She's so easy to make fun of. But I love her anyway!

LOL I would join that club of 2:) I am surprised that there is someone else who does not like the Hunger Games.

Christina (bookcrussh) | 40 comments I just don't like Ward's Fallen Angels series, though I like about half of her BDB series (but, Ann, her writing is definitely poo). The Angels series is rehashed and just not as entertaining, all of its characters closely resembling the Brothers. Furthermore, the lack of originality just makes Ward's lack of actual writing talent that much more apparent.

message 12: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 453 comments There are plenty of series that I hate/dislike that most of my GR buddies adore, but off the top of my head? Patricia Brigg's "Mercy Thompson" series. I read Moon Called and was NOT impressed. People keep saying I should give it another try but I really don't want to. I've got enough books on my TBR shelves that I actually WANT to read to consider reading a series I'm "meh" about. That being said, I did start Brigg's "Alpha & Omega" series when it came out and I DO adore that one.

as a fan of the Hunger Games books I honestly thought the movie was better than the book, and after rereading it again I didn't really enjoy it as much. it was more like a one time read only

This is just like me. I couldn't finish the first book because Cat really irritated me. I've tried twice but never managed to finish. I think I'll try again.

message 17: by Sandra J (last edited Aug 14, 2013 04:49AM) (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments I've tried at least twice. The whole "I'm going to get even with (your group of choice) because one of them once did something awful to (me/my mother/my father/my bff/etc) by killing every one of said group that I can find as soon as possible" just did me in. I read both Night Huntress World books; and though they're marginally better than NH#1, I really dislike the whole grim, violent, and (for me) virtually humorless world. So obviously this is just not my cuppa.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) Hate hate hate the Argeneau series. First book... made me want to hurl myself off a building. Will NEVER read another book in the series. It was just so damn CORNY.

And Shiver... ugghh. DNF. Boring. Emo teenage boy. Wasn't into it then, not into it now. Another building hurl.

When I first read the first three books in this series, I actually enjoyed them. When the fourth and fifth books made their appearances, I reevaluated the entire series and ended up disliking it a bit. It just isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

message 20: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I have to agree on the Argenneau series. The humor grates. I also stopped reading The Hollows. Made it through book 4 and just could not go on any further. Was not crazy with where she was going with it. I'm also not crazy about Richelle Mead and I know lots of people love her books.
I love the Mercy Thompson books, but it took reading 3 of them before I really fell in love.

I have read the first 3 in Mortal Instruments series. I'm not interested in going on. I would like to read the Infernal Devices series. That one sounds interesting. But YA fantasy gets old pretty quickly.

What cemented my hate of the Angel series is Lassiter show up in Lover Enshrined without explanation and didn't mesh with the established religious construct at all. It was so WTF, but was really annoyed that Google revealed this is a character featured on her website only. I began to develop a distaste for the author's ego assuming everyone reading her books cared enough to stalk her website too.

I didn't love Shiver either and everyone I know does so..yeah. I never continued with the series.

I loved the first three MI books but I was happy with that being the ending. When she announced that there would be three more books I bought them but still haven't read them. I am still not sure how I feel about her adding on to the series. I don't think it was necessary.

message 23: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda Argeneau family. I liked the first two books. Then I read the book about the crazy wedding fissco - wet favors, no catering, etc., and that was it. Mabe I'll get back to it; i don't know. It's at the bottom of my to-read it. Fell flat.
If someone here tells me it gets better, I MAY reconsider.

Not Sandra, but I dislike Kat because she's a self righteous hypocrit. I made it through 2 books, because everyone loves that series, but I can't stand it.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments You made it through a lot more than I did! Cat just put my teeth on edge.
I also didn't like Kenyon's series. I read a couple of the short stories and bought one of the early books (can't remember which one) and tried to read it. Nope. I don't think I lasted more than a chapter before I was done.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) I've given the Love At Stake series, two tries... CORNY and awful as well I can't do it.

Paganalexandria | 238 comments Tiffany wrote: "I like the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton but no one else seems to like them"

I have a love hate relationship with Anita Blake. I'm actually reading Affliction (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #22) by Laurell K. Hamilton right now. The sex did take over for a while, but I feel a better balance has been struck in the last 4 novels. She's back to raising zombies, solving crimes, along with the sex. My biggest problem now with this series is a supposedly feminist message polluted with this character's inability to have any female friends because everyone is so "jealous". At the same time I personally connect with Anita Blake more than any character. She totally speaks my flavor of bitch.

Every time I try to give this series up, LKH throws in a plot mystery that keeps me reading. The introduction of The Mother Of All Darkness forced me to power through some otherwise terrible books. Now I'm trying to see how Anita will handle all this new power and if it will completely corrupt all her ideals.

Rox | 69 comments I love Riley Jenson Guardian series by Keri Arthur despite the fact that some people just hate it , I had a tiny problem with the lovers she had through the books and it was a major part of the plot the fact that the hero wanted a monogamous relationship and she refused to believe that he was her mate but it was all worthwhile :

Cat (irishlily) | 6 comments Queen Betsy, I liked the snark of the first two or three but once she actually started to like Sinclair I couldn't take it anymore. I was happy to find the Charley Daviidson books because those have the kind of snark I love from a female protagonist. I also didn't make it past the first few chapters of Hunger Games and it was probably only the fifth or sixth time I could stomach not finishing a book.

message 37: by C.C. (new)

C.C. | 219 comments The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #1) by Kresley Cole I couldn't get myself to like IAD series and everyone loves them and has been recommending them. I'm okay with Alpha males, fighter ladies and shit but this is a bit too much for me. A lot of my pet peeves are in this series (book) mainly, females are treated like they are beneath the males (this was the vibe i got from the book. It doesn't mean that the women in the story are weak), insta-love and insta-sex and most of all sexual assault A.K.A. rape. I'm not saying I'm too sensitive for the subject but common, the man assaulted/raped you and you love him and act like it didn't happen. Like it was okay to raped? *sorry about the rant*

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones Again, highly recommended. I had high expectations for this series but it kinda fell flat for me. It had its good points but throughout reading the books I just constantly find myself getting more and more irritated by Charley.

Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine (Morganville Vampire Series) this has been recommended ages ago, even from adult readers but none of the characters stuck to me, I kinda even hate 2 of them and the other ones that I liked are pretty bland.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor I just came across this book while I was looking for a new read. The ratings are pretty good even the reviews. Readers have been raving about it so I read it. Let's just say I just got stressed and angry while I was reading the book.

Lastly, Marked (House of Night, #1) by P.C. Cast I don't even know why I keep reading this. I must be a masochist because every time I read this book I have a strong urge to pull my hair out or throw something out of irritation/frustration. For some reason a lot of readers really really like this and they think that Zoey is a really good role model.

Sorry for the rant and if you like some of these series then again, sorry. :)

Well, I'm seeing some of the series that I didn't like/got tired of listed here. I agree about the Betsy books. The series has gone on way to long. Sorry, but more than about 4 or 5 books (unless you are changing the characters ever book) and they start to get annoying and the story lines drag a bit. And the characters don't seem to grow any, with longer series. Having said all that--there are a few series that have gone on to larger numbers of books, (Anne McCaffrey's Pern books--she has the stories broken up into smaller "series" so that while you might have a return appearance in the books by someone from another set, things aren't from their pov any more. (Harper Hall series is an example where you get the Dragon Riders showing up in minor "supporting" roles. And you see these characters from the other sets as the people in the NEW series see them.)

And I agree C.C.--the IAD series is starting to bore me to death. I haven't been able to read anything since Pleasure of a Dark Prince. And it took me forever to read that one.

While NOT in our chosen genre, the Stephanie Plum books are starting to get very formulistic. I think that 20 is more than enough on that series.

And the Mortal Instruments series bored me to tears. In fact, I couldn't even get all the way through the first book. It took me 4 days to get 3/4 of the way through. And that was when I decided that I had better ways of wasting my time. (Watching paint dry, grass grow, etc.)

Heather, welcome to our super secret sisterhood. We are super secret because Ward's fans can be kind of (ok, EXTREMELY) scary when defending her writing style, abilities, characters etc. So we tend to slink around, hiding our true identities with masks and long cloaks. . . Seriously though, it's always nice to "meet" another Ward disliker.

I am one of her fans and yes, it is true. She deletes criticisms of fans/readers in her websites and social networks, even as simple as saying that you didn't like a character (esp if Ward, herself love that character)your comment will be deleted. I personally, get irritated when she does this.
