I finally saw the SoBo trailer on TV last night! I kept forgetting to watch it online and I wasn't really paying attention to the TV as I was walking past it when I heard something about not meaning to fall for my best friend's fiance - and my head whipped around to the TV because I instantly KNEW what it was for! I got so excited I actually jumped up & down, clapping my hands. Wow, I am such a geek. :)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments This one is for Tara :)

Besides reading I apply for new jobs! I have been with my job for 7 years (HR) and I'm not happy anymore. So I applied to another HR job in a different company, and they called me the next day! Had a phone interview, then was brought in for a face-to-face interview. Got an email last week wanting to bring me in for round 3, and round 3 happened today where I met with the VP and the CEO and CFO's executive assistant! It seems like they like me because they are doing the background check and they called 2 of my 3 references!!! WOO HOO!!! I should hear by the end of the week if the job is MINE!

AWESOME!!! Congrats! It's hard to go to work when you're not happy.I know you will get the job Kourtney!!!

I got lucky and my position was cut. I don't have to go there anymore, well since last October. I am a much happier person and I am sure you have heard all about the DW from Stacy. :)

Thanks for sharing Kourtney! :)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments THANK YOU EVERYONE!! The countdown to this new period has begun :)

Stacy - it's ok to be jealous - I'm jealous of your engagement!!! I knew we were twins!

Beth - after all that talk of flavored vodka, I looked around my house and found 2 bottles of rum, some beer, and wine. I feel almost alcoholic (almost) so I opted to not get the flavored vodka's until I drank some of the wine and the rest of the beer. So I raise my cabernet to myself for now!

message 271: by Kourtney (new)

Anyone else watch the Royal Wedding this morning? I'm a little bit in love with William and Kate right now...and feeling in a very British chick lit kind of mood.

Yes Jen! I watch it from 4AM and on. I agree it makes you want to read British Chick lit. Aren't they the cutest couple? I can't believe how much William looks like his mom. He is shy like she is.

Thanks Jen!
Actually, I've been avoiding anything Royal Wedding related because I was listening to the radio talk about how much this and that cost and it made me sick. With all the poverty there is in the world and they spend $8K on a cake? Sorry, I'm being grumpy and cynical about it, but seriously, there are better things to spend money on (like books, lol). I know they're not responsible for starving children, but still, no need to flaunt it like that.
Ok, I'm done now. Sorry, a bit of a grump lately. Sick & tired of being sick & tired. :(

Beth Orsoff (bethorsoff) | 133 comments Question for the group: Are you all on Twitter? Everyone keeps telling me I need to join but I can't figure out if I should. Every time I see a Twitter feed I just get confused with all the RTs, @s, and #s.

message 282: by Kourtney (last edited Apr 30, 2011 08:02PM) (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Beth - I am on Twitter, but I am not so popular on there. I use it follow my favorite authors, anything Cougartown related and the local news that tells me the traffic. It is a great promotional tool though (although it can cause hurt feelings - Cathy Yardley was following my tweets but dropped me when my tweets got sobby when my boyfriend broke up with me...not that I'm bitter...I still like her books...but I guess in her eyes I'm disposable! Seriously...not bitter)

From what I know:

RT: retweet - I love what you said so much I wish I was smart enough to say it, and I've decided I want to share it with all of my friends

@ - for some reason it starts the name of the person you are talking about, talking to, meh I don't really know (but I pretend to be down with the kids these days!)

# - still not sure but I think that it has something to do with when a group of people want to show up on the trending topics, so they all use the hashtag to "organize" and make themselves heard! For example - we would to promote you all tweet #lovethewalrus

This concludes my Twitter lesson for the day (anyone else feel free to correct me because I'm not going to pretend to be an expert! And find me on Twitter @adorrable524 but please don't leave me if I get sobby!)

message 283: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Oh - it's also where I keep up with Courtney and her new baby since she tweets a lot of really cute pictures :)

message 284: by Beth (new)

Beth Orsoff (bethorsoff) | 133 comments So it is courtesy to follow everyone who follows you? Because it seems like most people follow maybe a few hundred people, but will have thousands following them, which must mean they are not following everyone who's following them!

message 285: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicole21) | 573 comments I tend to use Twitter more professionally and so primarily follow book & TV industry folks. I most definitely do not follow everyone who follows me. Some people are following me simply because they want to have an extra entry in a giveaway I'm doing; those people do not get followed because they're strangers whose kids I really don't care about.

To elaborate a bit on Kourtney's explanation (which is great & would've been so helpful when I started):

Using @ before someone's handle makes it appear in that person's feed. So I'll post something like "Review of [book] by @[author] from @[publisher]" so that my followers as well as the author and publisher know the review is up. If the @[handle] comes at the beginning of a tweet, it's usually part of a conversation.

And there are two kinds (at least that I've discovered) of retweets. You can do the RT where you post your own message to go along with it. Or you can simply use the retweet button which puts the person's tweet into the feed of everyone following you.

I don't think it is. New authors will ask to follow me in hopes that I will in turn follow them. But that is just people trying to get a numbers game. For instance I follow 30-some odd people but only 16-ish people follow me...Kathy Griffin has a bazillion followers but doesn't follow anyone. You would be notified if people use your handle with the @ symbol regardless if you follow them or not.
