Robin (robinsullivan) | 5 comments Hey Beth Ann - the "grimmace" didn't bother me but all the references to "beautiful" "god like" etc got real old.

Brigid ✩ Fair enough, Wittystar. I wasn't saying that those were the ONLY reasons that ppl hate Twilight, but I was just pointing out some of the more common arguments. I wasn't trying to change anyone's mind, just saying that I don't agree w/Twilight haters. And I still don't think the book is a bad influence. What do you want, Stephenie Meyer to write, "Edward and I had a crappy relationship. Don't get a vampire for a boyfriend." ? It's not supposed to be a preachy book; it's supposed to be entertaining. I didn't really expect to learn anything from it, just to have a fun read. Is that such a crime? It hasn't changed the way I view teenage relationships. Now, am I saying that one can't learn anything from fiction? No, of course not. But I don't think Meyer's intention was to teach; she intended to tell an intriguing story, and in my opinion, she succeeded.

Brigid ✩ Yeah, I know. I just thought I'd give my opinion. Since everyone always gives long rants about how they hate Twilight, so I decided I might as well give a rant about why I don't hate it. It's not that I have a problem w/other ppl hating it. I just wanted to stand up for those of us who don't hate it ...

Well, whatever. I agree to disagree.

And congrats on NaNoWriMo!! yaay :D

Sarah | 5 comments I started reading these because everyone at work, my mother, step-mother, both of my sisters, and all of my friends read the books and were raving about them. I am not going to comment on the fact that the books are written at a second grade level because they are teen books. Who cares?

My real issue with the books is plot. Come on!!!! Overdramatic and unoriginal. It is Beauty and The Beast meets Dracula meets _____________ (fill in the blank with Withering Heights, Rebecca, etc.). She is a senior in high school, she does not need to find the love of her life...nor should the love of her life be an actual monster. It is ridiculous. Per Stephanie Meyer, they are not even the same species. I love my dog more than any person on Earth (almost) but we are not going to have a love affair. GROSS!!!!

I also find them horrifyingly boring! The first was okay due to the newness and excitement I had to start the series. Unlike most people, I liked the second one even better (at least the beginning) probably because whiny-ass Edward was gone. I am now reading the third one and I am half way through...and not a damn thing has happened!!!

YET...I still read them and I have every intention of finishing the series AND watching the movies. *sigh

Leslie (leslie20) Nikki wrote: "Lori that post could have easily been written by me. Why do I read these things? I don't really mind the storyline itself, and I do like childrens and young adults literature. So I guess that's ..."

Or heart-stoppingly beautiful? Turns out Bella's a lot more shallow than Meyer wants us to believe.

Jojobean Loved it and Breaking Dawn. Not so much with New Moon and Eclipse.

I do kinda get tired of hearing people blast authors because their books influence teens or whatever. I read a lot of different books when I was a teen and I'll be damned if I was going to take an author's book to heart like that or have their book change the way I was. I valued what my PARENTS taught me not what an author writes. Reading was and is a hobby of mine that I do for enjoyment not to be influenced by. Yes some books are powerful in what they say but I'm not going to let a book influence me if I don't agree with what they say. I don't know I guess that made me a different kind of teenager.
And nowadays teens are way more influenced by the movies, t.v shows, music and websites out there than books.

Stuart (asfus) | 20 comments I admit I don't loathe Twilight, I just found it a bit dull. I don't think it was aimed at my demographic anyway.
