Oh, I love this Book Recommendation folder Fiona. I'll probably spend much of my time lurking here now :D

I wish everyone would read Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson! I read it this weekend and immediately bought/ordered the next 4. It was so realistic, and even though Georgia is English, her circumstances and reactions are universal.
I have that one on my TBR shelf...
I heard on the "grapevine" (hehe, get it Kandice?) that a very good friend of mine got me a copy :D I'm excited to read it.
Kandice wrote: "I wish everyone would read Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson! I read it this weekend and immediately bought/ordered the next 4. It was so realis..."I've read the first two. Though enjoyable, I didn't interest me enough to buy/borrow the next.
I also read the first two and enjoyed them. In return, I push on the Georgia fans The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3 4 by Sue Townsend. He's like a male Georgia, and also English. Even though it was written in 1983 it's still accessible and relevant and hysterically funny.
Am I the only person who loves Paul Jennings? This Australian author writes some of the best short story collections around. The ones I especially love are his books for the upper elementary and middle school ages, although any age older (like me) should enjoy them to. Some of the titles in this series of books include Unreal! Eight Surprising Stories
, Unbelievable! More Surprising Stories
, and Uncanny!
Please tell me there are others here who have read and loved these books. (He also writes books for a younger age, too.)
Kathy, I've read all of those Paul Jennings short stories! I really liked him when I was younger. They did a tv series here that was wildly popular, called 'Round the Twist' that managed to incorporate a lot of the stories... have you seen it by any chance?ANd while I'm here:
click these. read in that order (after you've read Coriander :)
Hey, Josie, GMTA! About an hour ago I posted The King of Attolia to the new ABC game here. :) My favorite was The Thief, but I enjoyed all three of the books a lot.
eeee! So glad someone else here has actually read them! Let's gang up and force-feed them to everyone else.
I read the first two the past couple days, the stories are very good! I'll probably start the 3rd tomorrow.
LOL - let's do! I've already been accused of being a book pusher here, so joining a book-pushing gang just feels like the next step. :) P.S. - I love Gen! I can't BELIEVE what happens to him! I won't say more until more people read them and we can discuss.
That could be one of our tactics - drop tantilising hints everywhere until people BURST with curiousity...(I can't believe what happens to him either, and yes, he the BEST. I would marry him (before or after the aforementioned thing that happened to him..but shhh), despite every one of his ridiculous lies!)

I think he appeals to kids (and adults) who like quirky, different stories. Thanks for the recommendations. I've added the first one to my to-read list. In looking up the author, I thought her short story collection looked very interesting (loved its cover art), Instead of Three Wishes Magical Short Stories
.
Thank you Alexis! I thought it was an abbreviation for a book or series, so I didn't think to check Google!
I read this last night and thought it was FANTASTIC! Go read my review and add it to your TBR immediately :)
It is the first book in a trilogy, but it for some outstandingly crazy reason you don't love it, it ends fairly well and you don't have to continue. And, a plus...all three books are out already. :)
Fiona wrote: "Hmm, it sounds a bit weird and abnormal for me. :P"oh hogwash.
it actually reminded me a lot of Across the Nightingale Floor.
Hehe, I read the first one a while ago and never read the others. I bought them all, so maybe I'll get to them soon!
I'm going to push Once Dead, Twice Shy on anyone who likes fantasy. The characters are funny and the plot is great. Read read read!
Fiona wrote: "Hmm, it sounds a bit weird and abnormal for me. :P"I had a librarian friend recommend this to me (pushily, she led me to the computer and made me request it), and I am not going to lie, when I saw the cover and read the synopsis, I didn't think I would like it. But I trust her book judgement, so I got it. The first few pages had me doubting again, but then --
something started to click, I read it in one sitting, waited impatiently for each successive book, LOVE Snyder's writing, and though I do have some pet peeves about some of her habits, I think she is definitely worth reading.
Also, Allison, I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you sign up on her site you get emailed links to short stories about some of the Study characters that aren't available anywhere else.
thanks for the tip Misty...I read one of the little novellas and thought it was kinda pointless, I think there are links to them on her author page or something. I'm not sure if that is what you're talking about? I don't know...I guess I don't know how pointless they are until I read on to the next book and see if anything from the novella is referenced :)
Fiona wrote: "Hmm, it sounds a bit weird and abnormal for me. :P"Tell me it's not true, Fiona. I thought I could count on you to like weird and abnormal. Was I so wrong?
*cries in her beer*
Fiona wrote: "Lol what do you all think of me..."That you are a wonderfully interesting, quirky little bird that reads a wide variety of fantastic books. By the way, I love quirky, so that is definitely a compliment.
Allison wrote: "thanks for the tip Misty...I read one of the little novellas and thought it was kinda pointless, I think there are links to them on her author page or something. I'm not sure if that is what you're..."Nope, not novellas. There are no links on the page, only in email. They are little side stories following different characters (ahem, Ari and Janco, whom I loved ), etc.
Allison ~ I, Coriander sounds really interesting! I added it to my TBR pile and I'll definitely look for it in the library. Also I LOVE Poison Study, and the other books in the trilogy. I just finished her new one Storm Glass which I really enjoyed. I actually met the author. She was really sweet and she signed my copy of Poison Study. I read this book about a year ago and I highly recommend it. It's one of my sister's and my favorite books.
Kristen wrote: "Need - I think if you liked Twilight, you'd love this book."Kristen, I just added Need to my to-read list, too. Thanks.
:) I hope you guys enjoy it! :) And Katie... I've been meaning to read East forever. Maybe I'll try to find time this summer to buckle down and read it.
East is a great book. I already loved the fairy tale it's based on, but it is fully its own story. Pattou does a great retelling.
I've got two more that you guys really should try!
They can be read separately but they do connect so I would say read Wildwood Dancing first. Juliet Marillier is one of my favorite authors. These are fantasy books but they are really grounded in the history of the places she writes about. These are her first YA novels and they are FANTASTIC! The reason I love Marillier so much is that she takes conventional fantasy/fairy tale stories and retells them with a fresh, original viewpoint.

I love Adrian Mole!! I discovered him years ago - was working in an EFL school and most of my colleagues were English - and have read them all!! the first two are the best.
Allison: I read Poison Study because it was on my eReader... I loved it too, although I wasn't at all expecting to! Have you read the other two? How are they?

Hayes, the other two Study books are very good...Poison Study is still my favorite but I love the whole series!
I agree with Allison. There is just magic about Poison Study. (Alright, seriously, no pun intended. But I'm leaving it)I read the first book from the spin off, Storm Glass, and like it quite a bit too, though I had more issues with it (writing) than PS.
yeah I've been meaning to pick up Storm Glass now that I've finished the trilogy. The second one in that trilogy comes out soon doesn't it?
September 1st (its in my phone). Snyder is coming to my library in November, and my book club is having dinner with her, so we're reading Sea Glass for that months pick (not that I will wait until then. I will likely have it done Sept 3rd or so).So excited!
If you haven't read Pretty Little Liars! Read now!!! They are so good and keep you guessing the whole time!
Some of my absolute favorite books when I was younger were the Song of the Lioness series (starts with Alanna The First Adventure). They were fantastic and I had never read anything like them before, and Alanna is strong and endearing.
I'm looking for a book to be pushed my way, but I've got some criteria (you can push anything this way, of course, I've just got some things I'm in the mood for now).
I'm a tad fantasy-ed and historical fiction-ed out. I like reading these, but it seems to be all I've read lately.
I like stories within a story, and am in the mood for something similar to Holes.
Any recommendations would be welcome! Thanks! :)

Okay, I have a very large urge to push the House of Night series on to everyone.[image error]

I'm not sure it's YA, but of the books on your to-read list, Jennifer, the one I've enjoyed most was The Count of Monte Cristo.
