Ok I've written it down in my 'notebook of doom' haha. I'm an obsessive notetaker, I now have a dedicated Goodreads notebook (i.e. the notebook of doom!) otherwise I'll forget stuff lol! If the system doesn't work it can be changed :-)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Thanks Becca, sounds great!

For NON-FICTION:

Rowena and I decided to choose a theme for each non-fiction read and go nomination and poll for it. Since nominations might be running a little slower due to less people being into non-fiction potentially, we thought about starting nomination for October this coming week, to give us ample time, and then go into poll at the same time as the Fiction section. We would send out a message for the nomination thread to be open.
How does that sound to you guys?

Have we dedided whether our November/December classic will also be polled for then? Or will this wait until end of September?

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend! ;)

Please give me time! I'll work full time when I'm back on the 9 of sept! If you want to start a "nomination discussion" earlier it's fime with me!

Can anyone tell me how to send an email to all the group members? I'll be sending an email tomorrow about our non-fiction nomination thread. Thanks:)

If I remeber rightly you have to got at the bottom of the member page and click to "send a message to all" or something like that. I'll go and see

Yes it says in bold "broadcast a message to all memebers" right at the bottom of the first page of members

message 62: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Sounds like a good plan!

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Rowena AND I, not Rowena I decided...sorry, in case you were wondering about my napoleonesque tendencies, I just edited the post ;) LOL

message 64: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments @Laura, don't worry, I was just asking for classics, so that we don't clash too much, whenever you decide is fine! Enjoy the sea-side!

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Good idea about nominations, Jenny and Rowena :-)

@Shirley - is it still ok for the fiction nominations to open on the 25th (for a week) and the group monthly reads email for the 26th? The poll can then start on the 1st or 2nd and run for a week. Are we going to do the first ten nominations go to poll or first 'x' seconded nominations go to poll?

Becca, yes 25th is fine for nominations...(is the group monthly reads email just a reminder one?) I think it should be first ten seconded nominations, or is that too many?

message 72: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I just edited the group info to state that we have a bi-monthly classics AND non-fiction group read.

Yeah I'm going to send an mail about the monthly reads and other activities and I'll send a separate one for the fiction nominations. For setting up monthly read discussion threads, sending the nominations mail, setting up the nominations thread and setting up the poll, should we do alternate months? For instance I'll take this month and you can take next etc? or would you rather divide the tasks every month? We can just play it by ear and see what we have after a week, since we don't really know where it will go. We will officially make it ten seconded nominations but if there are only 5 or 7 or whatever after a week then that will probably be ok.

message 76: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments @Jenny & Rowena - I think taking a bit longer for nonfiction nominations/poll sounds reasonable.

I will check with Laura about the classics but just to get things straight in my mind - fiction, nonfiction and classics will all start a new book Oct. 1, then fiction starts its next book Nov 1, then all 3 again Dec. 1. Is that right?

message 77: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Leslie, yes, that sounds right to me.

Just was looking at the group home page and it says the Dickens read goes until Oct. 31 so I guess fiction & nonfiction start a new book Oct. 1, then fiction & classics start one on Nov. 1, then fiction & nonfiction Dec. 1 -- that actually seems better so glad I was mistaken!

message 79: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Yes, I had forgotten about the non fiction starting in October, sorry!

Well done Rowena, and I love the theme as well. Hope to be able of joyining! The classic new read eill start in nov, so with Leslie we thought to wait till the end of sept before opening a "nomination thread"

message 88: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Rotten timing, I know, with so many away right now, but... I had asked about a book list area and haven't heard any negatives. Today Alannah brought it up again so I have gone ahead and created a folder called "What Have You Read" and started a couple of lists - one nonfiction seafaring history (in honor of our theme) and one on satires.

I hope that is OK with everyone. I would also like to post an announcement about it in Group Announcements...

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi folks :-) what do you think about Alannah's suggestion on the Ask the Moderators thread? I thought these kinds of questions could be in a 'Just for Fun' section. We wouldn't have to manage it as such because it would be more of a members input section and would be unstructured and relaxed.

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha Leslie we posted at the same time :-P I thought book lists could go in a just for fun section along with other questions but those others (e.g. Which fictional character would you like to be stuck on an island with etc) could go in general diacussion, should anyone feel like posting these threads.

message 91: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Becca wrote: "Hi folks :-) what do you think about Alannah's suggestion on the Ask the Moderators thread? I thought these kinds of questions could be in a 'Just for Fun' section. We wouldn't have to manage it as..."

I like that idea & also your suggestion about having it unstructured.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you think we should open a Just For Fun folder then?

message 93: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I like the sound of a Just for Fun section, also like Leslie's New section too!

message 94: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Becca I think we can have both. The Just for Fun section can really have anything in it, like book memes or bookish games. I play book title games on anther group & on LibraryThing and I bet some people woul be interested here.

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok doke :-) I like the idea of having them seperate too. Do you want me to open Just For Fun or do you want to?

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hey guys, just wondering: what's our policy for mods voting or seconding? In non-fiction we have a strict hell yes! - policy for that, what about fiction and classics?
