Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Okay awesome Angela! Hope you enjoy that one. I have read that one, Cycle of the werewolf, the stand, blockade billy which was a baseball one, different seasons, salem's lot, pet Sematary, and his short story collection night shift.

message 1602: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I wasn't expecting him to be such a good writer . If you haven't read Joyland or 11/22/63 I highly recommend them .

I have read neither. I don't think I have read one of his books since I read The Shining about 35 years ago.

The only Stephen King I have read is Under the Dome, which I thought was ok, but didn't live up to my expectations, based on what others have said about his books. I have 11/22/63 to read though, so I am hoping it will be better.

I definitly need to get deeper into King!!!

message 1608: by Angela M (new)

Angela M @Shirley - I don't think you will be disappointed in 11/22/63.
@LauraT - King's horror stories are not my cup of tea but these two that I have read are so well written .

I know. This is what my husband and son keep repeting to me!!!

message 1610: by Christie (new)

Christie (malasada) | 40 comments I haven't read any of King's newer books, but I've read almost all of his older work - my favorite by far is The Stand. And I second Amber's recommendation on (The Eyes of the Dragon - it's great (even my friends who aren't generally into King enjoyed that one). I loved his Dark Tower series, though I know that there are mixed responses to how it ended. I'm going to stop myself before I keep rambling on LOL - I think I've loved almost every one of his books that I read!

But I grew up with Stephen King books so I may be a bit biased - he's my dad's favorite author. :)

it's a wonderful story, isn't it? I wish the author had written it sooner and then written more books.

I definitly agree! When kid I used to have a lot pf penpals and wrote loads of letter. I like emails and internet a lot, but seeing an envelope in the letterbox was so much more emotional!

If I got anything type of missive in my letterbox, I'd go into a type of letter-shock.

Email, 'smemail' - people just whack out blah, blah, blah. But a letter: because of the physical act of actually writing it, so much more thought goes into it. You think about what you are saying etc.

I've been hearing about this for a while. I guess I'll probably read it sometime this month.

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Finished The War of the Worlds by H.G.Wells (finally) I gave it 4**** and highly recommend it to everyone because it is/was ground breaking sci fi, horror, fiction.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Bridge of Time was a pretty good YA time travel story about two friends who go back in time to Mark Twain's time.

I enjoyed your humorous review! I've never read any Stephen King (don't like horror) but there's a copy of Joyland sitting on the side here, that my husband's just finished & liked, so maybe I should try it.

message 1631: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Joy ,
I think you should give it a try . I'm not a fan of horror as my review indicated but this and 11/22/63 are amazing reads.

dely | 5214 comments Finally I have finished Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype!
It's not a "finally" because I didn't like it but because it was a long read. In addition to this I have often re-read parts of the book who were interesting and then I started thinking about them to catch every advice of the author.
It is a very interesting and helpful book about female psychology and reading it leads to introspection. It explains a lot of interesting things about female behavior analyzing fabels and fairy tales.
It isn't hard to read though the topic is tough and the author is sometimes repetitive and this helps to put the hints in our head.

Yes, I absolutely recommend it to every woman of every age. I had read it already three years ago and it was a real eyeopener, it helped me a lot. Also now I have found interesting advices though I still remembered the essential part of the book.

That's good to know, because it is a very long book - I have it on my kindle - so it is a relief to know it is well written. I shall look forward to reading it now!

Ramona Boldizsar (ramonaboldizsar) I have just finished reading Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. I am just wondering, between sobs, what should I do next with my life. I've been crying like a fool until now, making my boyfriend laugh in amazement (and, I suppose, amusement). One of the best books I have ever read - I therefore proclaim Mr. Thomas Hardy a most wonderful writer.

Now, really, I just don't feel doing anything (at all) for a while.

I read it last month and I also loved it - poor Tess!

message 1646: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Boldizsar (ramonaboldizsar) Well, I find it even too less to say I loved it! I adored it! I am very glad I read it. It is a most tragic story, but what's even more wonderful is Hardy's style - it fascinated me /it still fascinates me, I mean. I really think very high of his style and literary genius, for the story isn't only very tragic and interesting, but also very, very well written.

message 1647: by Beth (new)

Beth | 508 comments I agree, it really is a wonderful story with fabulous writing. I am 52 years old and I can't believe I never read it before this year - just goes to show how much brilliant literature is out there that we still have not read.

I started it several weeks ago and was promptly distracted by library books with due dates. I liked what I read, and I really need to get back to it. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it! It has given me inspiration to pick it up again...
