Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I just finished Itch: The Explosive Adventures of an Element Hunter and it was a pretty good read. Review to come soon.

Sharla A Wizard of Earthsea is generally listed as Young Adult but don't let that stop you if you're an older person like me. It will appeal more to those who enjoy fantasy fiction but it is beautifully written. I highly recommend it!

And I will second that recommendation! Ursula K. Le Guin is a wonderful writer :)

Leslie | 16369 comments Colleen, could you include titles in future posts? Book covers don't always show up in the mobile app (mine for example just shows little blue squares)...

message 1156: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I've just finished The Twelve by Justin Cronin which I would recommend to anyone who has read and enjoyed the first book of the trilogy, The Passage.

message 1157: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments I have just read 84 Charing Cross Road and it was lovely. :)

A string of letters on some books and occasional seasonal greetings really move you to tears......The book is lovely. Can't agree more....

message 1159: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) One of my favourites!

I agree, Shirley. I'd recommend both these books.

Don't know neither of them... Too many books in my overfulled life!

message 1162: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristilarson) | 387 comments I have finished The Preacher, the second book in yet another Scandinavian mystery series that I'm enjoying right now.

message 1163: by Book Ninja (new)

Book Ninja | 213 comments I finished The Bastard of Istanbul last night. I would recommend it to everyone. It is a very nice story and Elif Shafak's style of writing is beautiful.

Joy Stephenson (joyfrankie) | 243 comments I've just read The Husband's Secret which I enjoyed while reading, although now I'm starting to feel dissatisfied with certain elements of plot and style. (view spoiler)

I thought the first was better though, don't you think Kirsty?

I read this recently as well and though it started off well, I felt very disappointed by the end, especially with the epilogue!

message 1168: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Hunterby Wil wheaton was a pretty good scifi short story which you can read on goodreads and it was only 10 chapters long. I reviewed it on my page if anyone wants to read it. :) He's a good author.

I'm done with War and Peace! And I liked it :-)

message 1170: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) The Drunken Forest is typical of Gerald Durrell's quirkily humorous books, full of information about wildlife in Argentina and Paraguay. He calls this an "unsuccessful expedition" as he had to flee the country when there was a military coup. His sense of the lighter side of life is always paramount though, even under these circumstances.

message 1171: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Just today finished The Pickwick Papers and it was yet again another piece of stunning literature by in my opinion the best author that there's ever been Charles Dickens.

message 1172: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I've recently finished Kinder Than Solitude: A Novel which was so brilliantly written I wanted it to never end.
Also finished Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, which made me wonder why why why German theatre ignores him entirely, at least (though he is translated) I've never come across his name before Leslie chose him as our seasonal playwright.

message 1173: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) Tracey - hear, hear to that!

message 1174: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments John I wrote a review on this and I rambled on and on.

message 1175: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Tracey wrote: "John I wrote a review on this and I rambled on and on."

And why not? He wrote some great books. I'm looking forward to my next Dickens, which will be A Tale of Two Cities.

message 1176: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) Tracey - but only 4 **** b

message 1177: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) I meant four stars **** !

message 1178: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments John I really wanted to give 4 and a half but as you can't and couldn't give 5 as my beloved Tale of Two Cities is 5 and it isn't quite up to that magnificent books standards. I feel bad now :(

message 1179: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Shirley it really is a fantastic book. I hope you love it ad much as I did. It was my first Dickens too. :)

message 1180: by John (new)

John Frankham (johnfrankham) Tracey - never ever read Tale of Two Cities, so will put it on my list. Ta.

message 1181: by Scott (new)

Scott Just finished The Goldfinch and YES! I would highly recommend. Some mixed reviews but I loved it.

Good to hear! I'll be reading this along with another group in April.

Leslie wrote: "I'm done with War and Peace! And I liked it :-)"

Yay, Leslie! That's quite an achievement. I enjoyed it, too, when I read it.

Really? I'm surprised as I consider him one of the top living playwrights in the world! Maybe his fame is mostly in English-speaking countries...

message 1185: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Tracey - your review of The Pickwick Papers was great - so enthusiastic. You didn't ramble! What hope is there for me if you say that - my review was three times as long as yours!! ;)

message 1186: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Good Morning Jean yes yours was much longer but filled with great info and pertinent stuff mine is just a gush .

message 1187: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Petra enjoy Pickwick it is laugh out loud funny in some parts and written wonderfully well.

message 1188: by Bionic Jean (last edited Jan 29, 2014 02:43AM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Aw thank you Tracey but I know I tend to bang on a bit... I only hope it's not "off-topic". For me if you get to know a bit about the writer, or what the circumstances are when something is published, it can increase your understanding and enjoyment. I only hope Goodreads agree...

Petra - which group is reading The Pickwick Papers ? I'd like to follow that thread. And if you read our reviews it might give you a taster and spark your enthusisasm too!! It is the very much NOT the sort of book you could "spoil" by giving away plot details. :)

Here's my review . I found Tracey's by going on to her page :)

But I won't follow you with The Pickwick Papers: it's almost the only one by Dickens that i didn't like!!!

message 1198: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Aw, Laura! I must admit I had to force myself to read it again this month to start off my personal challenge. Now I'm so glad I did! My previous star rating, from a read many years ago, was 2*. My review now, which is quite lengthy, is 4*.

Time for a reread for you too, Laura? LOL

message 1199: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I have just finished Snowdrops by A.D. Miller. I thought it was well written and atmospheric. You could feel the cold.

Violeta (d3colores) I just finished The Fountainhead, I enjoyed it. It's my eleventh book this month, and I am very exited to have time read again.
