Gill | 5719 comments I've just finished Birdcage Walk. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the other books I've read by Helen Dunmore.

What an interesting project, Susan. How long do you think it's going to take?

Paul (paa00a) | 202 comments Mixed feelings about Truevine: Two Brothers, a Kidnapping, and a Mother's Quest: A True Story of the Jim Crow South – which I first heard about on NPR and picked up from the library on a whim. The story is great, the way it's told is ... less so.

Gill — I started in September 2015, and I'll definitely finish before the end of this year. I have only four books to go: The Life of Monsieur de Moliere, A Dead Man's Memoir: A Theatrical Novel, Don Quixote: A Dramatic Adaptation, and The Master and Margarita.

I'm reading Mikhail Bulgakov's work in chronological order, using Mikhail Bulgakov: A Critical Biography as a reference. It's certainly been an interesting project!

I'll publish a review of the critical biography when I've finished.

I read that in high school and liked it. However, when I re-read it a few years ago, I was rather disappointed, too. I don't think it aged well (like a lot of other things I liked back then). There's a sequel, though I don't remember the name.

dely | 5214 comments I have finished reading Il mondo in una scuola: Storie e viaggi dell'operaio europeo 4*

There isn't an English edition. It's a non-fiction about refugees, about the various wars around the world, or countries with a precarious working life, that lead people to flee from their countries. Every chapter talks about the different routes these people take to arrive in Europe, the reasons why they flee and and the end of every chapter there are also real short stories of people who survived these long trips to arrive in Europe.

More thoughts about it here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Pam Baddeley | 1531 comments Read a crime story by Anne Perry set in Victorian times; good setting evocation but ultimately the lack of conviction in the plot derails it - Resurrection Row- review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1840405217

Hi Diane. The sequel is Elegy Beach. I added it to my TBR when I heard about it but having re-read the first book, I'm now having second thoughts.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story this morning. This shouldn't be listed as a "non-fiction" book as the events were moved around by the author. It's also a bit repetitive. However, some parts of it were interesting and that kept me reading along.
