Welcome / Member Introductions

as I had found this group a few minutes ago, I've had to join in, because I love to read, I really do.
Especially fiction, classics, biographys, regency lovestories (yeah, not really sophisticated, but pretty good to dawdle time while the laundry is waiting to be done. Surely just an example, pls don't draw hasty conclusions out of it, I keep my house fine, most of the time. I truly adore Jane Austen, maybe this makes things better?), er, the fine prints on the back of potato-chip bags, muddy stickers underneth the bonnet of my car and ... well, to be honest any written letter will do actually.
Obviously, on a side like this, no wonder at all so far. So, what else could I tell you?
Um, oh yes, of course: My name is Anna, I'm from Germany, older than I would like to be or to mention and my english is not as good, as it could be, or once was, but hopefully you don't mind.

I'm a 26 year old bank teller who dabbles part time in retail and is trying to get back into the swing of reading more. I'm originally from Michigan but now reside in Maryland with my boyfriend. I love reading, movies, video games, music, and animals! I have a Bachelor's of Science in Zoology and dream of one day doing behavioral research on whales or dolphins.
I love fantasy, science fiction, fiction, romance, and the occasional thriller as far as book genres go. I am trying to make 2019 the year I get back into avid reading, as I used to do before college made reading feel like a chore and I quit wanting to even for fun. This year I've dived into a few great books and I hope next year will be just as good. Some that I read this year are the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (eagerly awaiting the third book!), Lexicon by Max Berry, the Me Before You Trilogy by Jojo Moyes, The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo, and Heir Apparent by Vivian Valde Velde.
Can't wait to meet fellow book lovers, make some friends, and discover new books! Hope everyone is having a good week, I can't believe the year is almost done!

Welcome Hayley! I sincerely hope we'll be of any help!!! We chat about so many books that I'm certain yuo'll find something for your tastes!!!!

Thank you a lot! The only thing I could really read while being depressed was A Song of Ice and Fire, God knows why.

Thanks!

My name is Leigh. I’ve been on goodreads for a while but just starting to use it! I’m 27 from a small town in Ontario, Canada. University and College ruined my love of reading and I decided at the end of last year to pick up some books and read again! I’ve already read 2 books this month which is amazing for me since I haven’t read in years! :)

Welcome Liz!

Thank you! I enjoy different genres of writing, but my two favourite books are The History of Love by Nicole Krauss and The Catcher in the Rye. I love books with a charismatic main character/narrator.

I don't know the first, while - of course being I graduated in Anglo American Literature - i love the second. But even more than the novel, I like Salinger's short stories: every time I have some friends marrying I write them "Rise high the beam, carpenter" even if I do admit it is not really well wishing considering how it ends!!!! But I pretend I'm quoting Saffo!!!!

I think I might have read somewhere that some of Salinger's unpublished work may be released over the next few years - but maybe that's wishful thinking!

Welcome Ilena -hope you enjoy the group. Couldn't help but respond when I saw your comment about Beartown and Us Against You - what a wonderful couple of books, absolutely loved them both. I presume you've tried his other books, particularly A Man Called Ove (great book and excellent film version). Once again, welcome x

And welcome Luffy, Pirate King, and Ilena!!!

(just for the record, one of my brothers is born on what is known a s "talk like a pirate day" and so there is a place online where I can figure out what I want to say. He teaches physics at a Canadian university and if he has lectures on that day, he'll dress like a pirate and use some of this sort of talk while teaching Physics).

Welcome, Ilena (but I might accidentallyh call you Gabriella by mistake at times since I tend to remember the moniker because I can see it when posting).

Welcome Maggie!!!! How old are your kids? Mine, when in primary school, read a lot; not so much anymore...

My name R.D. Murray.
This is very hard to write, but when I was in the 3rd grade I was bullied so badly I wanted to kill myself. All because I was shy, quiet and awkward. I was thrown in the boy’s bathroom by these 3 particular kids who would punch and kick me as hard as they could. I could barely walk as everyday they would abuse me over, and over again. The other kids in school would just laugh at me and no one helped. In fact, those same kids who watched and knew about my abuse would just join in, tease me, and they even threw food at me during lunch. My mom came to school so much to fight for me, but it didn’t help. I had just about given up living in this world. Somehow God saved me and I found writing. It was an outlet to take me away from the pain I was going through in this world. I wanted to create different characters, and a different world just to escape. Writing really saved my life. Now at 42 I just released my first novel. My Dead Blue Caterpillar. Just looking for friends and people to connect with. If you want to check out my debut novel that’s cool too if not it’s ok just looking to connect and discuss books. I love reading. I read 20 books a year or so. Nice to meet you guys.
