Hi Everyone! I'm Britany- from Clearwater, FL. I'm in a few other groups with some of you and am finally cleaning up my groups so that I can add some more. Looking forward to talking books with everyone. I'm a sucker for Historical Fiction- WWII subgenre and book podcasts.

Hey Everybody! My name's Jack. This is the first time ever that I've had an opportunity to use Goodreads. I honestly don't know what to expect, so there's a little trepidation on my end. I am jumping in here just out of curiosity and also interested in interacting with and talking to all the lovely, interesting people on this forum. I'm sure you auto-didacts have some amazing stories to and I'm interested in hearing all, or at least most of them, so I'm happy to be here.
Genre wise I'm a bit free range. It used to be a fifty-fifty mix of fiction and non-fiction but lately the scales have tipped towards the latter. I've always been interested in history so that's taken some priority in my mind. Science fiction and fantasy are a close second--I am a big fan of Asimov--but I tend to go wherever my mind takes me.
Currently I'm reading David Sedaris (Theft by Finding), with a couple others in my Amazon queue for purchase. I'm really enjoying it so far and can't recommend it enough, easily the breakout hit of 2017 in my mind. Before that most of my reading was current events based, so it's nice to bite into a diary/memoir that isn't "ripped from the headlines" for once.
Other than that I can't think of anything else. What about everyone else? What books are you reading right now that are making a big impression on you?

Welcome Jack (or John?)! Members here like a lot of different genres so I'm sure you will find a lot of people to talk about books and share opinions.
I'm currently reading a non-fiction (with no English translation) about seven trappist monks kidnapped and killed back in 1996 in Algeria.
Welcome to the group, Jack! I'm sure you will enjoy your time here. We are a friendly bunch and read a very wide variety so you will always find somebody who has read the book you want to discuss!
Welcome Jack! I don't read much nonfiction but I do like sci fi & fantasy quite a bit. Currently I am reading The Captive by Proust and our group fiction book A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles on my Kindle, Over My Dead Body by Rex Stout in paperback and Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle in audiobook. So quite a variety as you can see!
Welcome Jack! As Leslie said in here plenty of differet tastes in books. So I'm sure you'll find "Bread for your teeth" as we say in Italian!
Seems like I still haven't introduced myself...My name is Manuel, I'm 24 and I'm from Austria...
My favorite genres include mysteries, (urban) fantasy and horror and I'm really looking forward to posting here :D
Hello everyone,I am Lalitha from India. I like reading classics, books on historical fiction and thrillers. I look forward to discussions on books I have read and some book suggestions.
Hi EveryoneI am from India.
My growing up years was spent in Bahrain.

Now,I am 26.I need a bigger bookshelf.

Hi to everyone here, and an apology to everyone here. I joined this group several days ago but was discourteous enough not to introduce myself straightaway. I am Venkatesh "Venky" Iyer, author in the making. I am about halfway through the second book of my three-book debut fiction work. It is about a politician, and that is where the fiction part comes in.
Hi everyone, Mandy here and I've just found this group and thought it sounded interesting. I am in the UK and read pretty much anything except romance but default to mystery/thrillers with dystopian, sci-fi and fanstay coming in next. Would love to make new friends into the same so feel free to add me and I hope to chat to you all soon.
Welcome Mandy! It sounds like we have similar tastes so I look forward to seeing what you are reading in the discussion threads.

Hi Everyone,I joined goodreads a little over two years ago, but I have only just now found you. I'm glad to be here. I am especially thrilled with your poetry thread.
A little about me: I was a professor of English for a number of years. I moved into administration after 18+ years of teaching, was an academic dean for a couple of years before becoming VP for Academic Services. I retired in July 2013.
I have published 4 books (2 non-fiction and 2 novels). All address women in mythology in one way or another--my favorite topic.
I've been an avid reader all my life--anything to do with the classics, mythology, re-telling of myths, gender, poetry, and all sorts of novels although I'm not much into science fiction or fantasy. I hope that's not going to be a problem.
Looking forward to some good discussions/recommendations on books and poetry.
Thanks.
Welcome Tamara. I’m excited to have another member who is interested in poetry! I hope you join the Monday Poem discussion.
Thanks for the welcome.I would love to participate in the Monday poem discussion if someone can explain how it works.

For the Monday poem discussion thread:
One of the moderators posts a sign up discussion thread each month. You sign up by posting a comment stating the date you want.
On or about the Monday you chose you start a new discussion thread and post the poem you chose.
Starting a new thread is easy, its just a menu choice on the Monday poem page or if you’re using the app it’s the plus sign on the upper right of your screen.
It’s nice if you post a comment about why you chose that poem or something.
Then other people post their comments -
The thread about “October” by Robert Frost was one of our most lively.
I recently posted “Dog” by L. Ferlinghetti, but it has not generated much discussion.
Hi, everyone! I'm Janet in Virginia, USA. I'm a semi-retired psych/dementia RN. I read a wide variety but mostly fiction. I also enjoy history and biographies, and books with a medical theme. Also psych suspense and mysteries, depends on the author.Excited about rereading (group's choice) Silas Marner after many years.
Sorry it's taken me this long to become active (on here) and introduce myself!
