Welcome Natalie. I hope you join us in The Monday Poem thread. The group shares classics, new and obscure poems there.
Welcome Mark! I'm sure that the Ulysses thread will be happy to have any comments you have. And please do join in our other reads & threads too!
Thank you, Laura! - )I'm retired. I live on the east coast, mid-atlantic, of the USA with my wife and our nine cats. I've only been on the internet for about a year and a half, and GoodReads is the only sight I've ever used. I am a huge fan of James Joyce, and like encouraging and helping others experience the thrill of reading Ulysses.

They are all rescue cats. We keep finding them in the alley behind our house. We feed them; and when they become regulars we invite them in. Nobody should have just 1 cat! Two is the absolute minimum. - )
Mark, nine cats! How do you do it?- we had 3 cats (now down to 2) who for 13 years have barely tolerated each other - It’s like The Cold War with occasional missile crises.
My name is Renee and I live in Michigan. I am semi-retired and disabled. I read alot. I enjoy everything except horror. My favorite is mystery and fantasy. I only have one cat. She is my therapy.

They have all come out of our back alley, and for the most part have been yearlings or less. We feed them for awhile outside and then gradually encourage them to become house cats. Obviously there isn't complete harmony all the time, but they all seem very grateful to be living indoors, so they all sort of share something in common. We never intended it to get so far out of hand; but I can't not feed a hunger cat. - )
(I enjoy your pet photos, very much!)

If I go outside and sit awhile she'll come-up and curl-up in my lap, kneading and purring while I stroke her. I am firmly convinced that there are very few feelings in this entire universe that are better than that. - )
Hi, I'm Sonam. I have been living in different places and currently came to enjoy the winters in Minneapolis. I love reading and can read anything that I can lay my hands on; from Champak (Indian kids magazine) to Kafka with the same excitement. Currently on a dependent visa in USA, hence enjoying my time with books and long walks.
Hello All - My name is Julia, I'm 52 yrs old and live in Florida, USA with my SO of 19 years.
In addition to reading, I also enjoy salt-fresh water fishing, day-road tripping, hitting the range, and antiquing.
I am also teaching myself photography, knitting and sewing.
I don't really have a favorite genre, I'll read anything as long as it holds my interest.
My favorite authors are Nora Roberts / JD Robb, Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Emily Giffen, Patricia Briggs, Linda Castillo.
Look forward to chatting with you.
Welcome Julia! For non native English speaker, what is a SO?
One never stop learning!!!
How many interest yu've got! I hope you'll find plenty of things to discuss in here.

S.O.
Abbreviation for "Significant Other". The gender-neutral way to refer to someone's boy/girlfriend.
I'm having a party at my place. Bring your S.O.!

Hai ragione Laura. Ma, vuoi mettere, il misterico senso di "essere un altro in maniera significativa" ...
"We read and listen to music to know that we are not alone" These are the words of one of the major characters in my newly published work: "The World Explored, the World Suffered: The Exeter Lectures.":https://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Explor...
This quote echoes the introduction text to this group. My book is the first part of a trilogy that takes us back to University, the place where most of us learn to read and to think about what we have read. The novel attempts to introduce exploring minds to the world of Philosophy and the tragic consequences of losing ones way in such a world.
My author page on amazon.co.uk is at:

And if you are interested in a glimpse of some of the lectures which will feature in the coming two volumes you can connect to my blog at:

Hi, my name is Diana, I'm 16 years old and I live in a small village called Săcalu de Pădure, from Romania. I enjoy reading classics (my favorite authors are the russian ones), mystery, horror, adventure and poetry. I am also passionate in hystory. When I'm not reading I am usually watching TV Shows or listening to music.
I want to apologize for any grammer mistakes, I am still training my english.

Welcome Diana - be sure to check out all the different thread lists - this group has many diverse interests.I'm putting in a plug for my favorite - The Monday Poem thread in the Poetry section.
Hello my name is Ken (or Kenny). I have been on Goodreads for awhile, but I have just discovered this group. I am here because I love to read. I like older works and non-fiction works, but I have no aversion to reading anything new. I hope that this group gives me a chance to interact with other bibliophiles and to learn more of the world around me. I am also teaching myself Spanish. Mucho gusto.
Welcome Ken - I’ve toyed with idea of learning Spanish - I’d love to be able to read to my Spanish-speaking granddaughters.
Welcome, Ken. I took Spanish classes in high school and college. I don't remember any of it. Good luck to you!
Welcome Diana and Ken!
I'd love to sdudy Stanish Ken, it's ages that I say so; I'll do it some time or other

I could understand everything you wrote, and that's the most important part of communicating. Your spelling and grammar will improve as you go.
I really liked poetry when I was a teen, but don't read it as much now. I do like some adventure. My grandmother used to tell me that Russian novels were never the same once translated into English, so I didn't try them and now am not interested. She read and spoke 3 languages, although she learned English as an adult. She learned German at home and at church, but Russian at school--it is history from the early 20th century, but I won't fill this up with that as she didn't grow up in Romania.
