I'm retired. I live on the east coast, mid-atlantic, of the USA with my wife and our nine cats. I've only been on the internet for about a year and a half, and GoodReads is the only sight I've ever used. I am a huge fan of James Joyce, and like encouraging and helping others experience the thrill of reading Ulysses.

Nine cats??? My dream!!!! But my husband says that if I bring home unother cat - we only have one! - he'll go out. And since he's the one who cooks - and well he cooks! - I've decided that I wont push my luck!!

Hi Joan - My wife and I are both retired and we never go anywhere, so our zoo is constantly being supervised. They have all come out of our back alley, and for the most part have been yearlings or less. We feed them for awhile outside and then gradually encourage them to become house cats. Obviously there isn't complete harmony all the time, but they all seem very grateful to be living indoors, so they all sort of share something in common. We never intended it to get so far out of hand; but I can't not feed a hunger cat. - )
(I enjoy your pet photos, very much!)

Hi Renee - I completely agree. One of our cats lives outdoors under our back porch. If I go outside and sit awhile she'll come-up and curl-up in my lap, kneading and purring while I stroke her. I am firmly convinced that there are very few feelings in this entire universe that are better than that. - )

My name is Julia, I'm 52 yrs old and live in Florida, USA with my SO of 19 years.
In addition to reading, I also enjoy salt-fresh water fishing, day-road tripping, hitting the range, and antiquing.
I am also teaching myself photography, knitting and sewing.
I don't really have a favorite genre, I'll read anything as long as it holds my interest.
My favorite authors are Nora Roberts / JD Robb, Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Emily Giffen, Patricia Briggs, Linda Castillo.
Look forward to chatting with you.
Welcome Julia! For non native English speaker, what is a SO?

Hai ragione Laura. Ma, vuoi mettere, il misterico senso di "essere un altro in maniera significativa" ...

This quote echoes the introduction text to this group. My book is the first part of a trilogy that takes us back to University, the place where most of us learn to read and to think about what we have read. The novel attempts to introduce exploring minds to the world of Philosophy and the tragic consequences of losing ones way in such a world.

Hi, my name is Diana, I'm 16 years old and I live in a small village called Săcalu de Pădure, from Romania. I enjoy reading classics (my favorite authors are the russian ones), mystery, horror, adventure and poetry. I am also passionate in hystory. When I'm not reading I am usually watching TV Shows or listening to music.
I want to apologize for any grammer mistakes, I am still training my english.

Hi, Diana. Welcome!
I could understand everything you wrote, and that's the most important part of communicating. Your spelling and grammar will improve as you go.
I really liked poetry when I was a teen, but don't read it as much now. I do like some adventure. My grandmother used to tell me that Russian novels were never the same once translated into English, so I didn't try them and now am not interested. She read and spoke 3 languages, although she learned English as an adult. She learned German at home and at church, but Russian at school--it is history from the early 20th century, but I won't fill this up with that as she didn't grow up in Romania.
