Atif Waheed | 1 comments Hey everyone!

Its my first time being part of a forum as such, so hi again.
My love for books emerged late for what i believe but its not dying soon for sure, like even if thats possible.
I mostly prefer non-fiction but lately i feel like i should try classics be it fiction or otherwise. So guide me with your suggestions. I thought of starting with 'War and peace' and 'Odyssey' but if you would prefer something else, would gladly appreciate.
Thanks

Tony Salter | 2 comments Hi everyone. I'm Tony. I'm 57 and I'm relatively new to Goodreads.

I love reading (fiction mostly, but across a wide range of genres. I do, however, generally struggle with social media – not a problem with understanding it, but rather one of not seeing the point:-)

I'm hoping to find a happy balance based on common interests here!

M Hello, everyone!
I am Marta and this my first time posting anything on GoodReads! It is just a little bit daunting. Everyone seemed so nice and relaxed in here that I decided to finally give it a try.
I noticed that you read a very eclectic mix of books/genres so I am excited to join and spice up my reading!

Welcome Marta - Hghm!
Nice to have you with us. Tell us a bit more about yourself: where are you from, what type of books you'd like to discuss or read here with us, and so on!!!

message 3366: by M (new)

M Thank you so much! I am happy to be on board!
I am from Portugal and just graduated medical school. I don't have a favourite genre (too hard to pick!)! I feel like I have not read many classics nor non- fiction so I am looking forward to read along with you, it will give me motivation for sure! In fact, I have started Frankenstein even though the challenge is almost over so I would say I am already making some progress!

message 3367: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Marta and congratulations on graduating. Do you have a first job lined up?

message 3368: by M (new)

M Thank you, Heather!
I do not have a job prospect just yet. I will have to sort out some paperwork plus do an exam for medical speciality first and decided which hospital to gom etc. I still don't know how all of it works but I am going to gather information this month. Hopefully I will have a clearer picture soon.

message 3369: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know how the Portuguese system works but I'm a doctor in England. Just started working as a haematologist

message 3370: by M (new)

M In Portugal, there is an exam based on Harrison's. Afterwards we have one year equivalent to the English Foundation year and only then we choose the speciality based on our grade on the exam and average from University.
Haematology! How nice!
I still don't know which one I want.

message 3371: by [deleted user] (new)

We chose our speciality a few years down the line. I've been qualified 5 years now and only just starting in my speciality. Out university doesn't really matter, it's our post uni experience that counts.

message 3372: by M (new)

M Oh, that is interesting! I am actually considering applying to England, but I have to gather some more info on that!

Welcome Katia. What a life yours must be: studying and playing professional basketball sounds hard indeed, at least for my lazy standard!!!
I'm really glad you love Wilkie Collins: he's one of may favourite author! At the moment we're reading, as classic, a book of his friend Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

message 3376: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Welcome Katia! Is professional women's basketball popular in France? Here in the U.S. they don't get the coverage they deserve...

Nichole | 554 comments Good afternoon! My name is Nichole. I am a high school librarian and a serious bibliophile. I am happy and relieved to have finally picked a group after lots of searching!
I love to read classics, literary fiction, engaging non-fiction such as essays, cultural studies, biographies, philosophy, and history. I also love contemporary stuff such as cozy mysteries and general fiction.

Thanks.

Leslie | 16369 comments Welcome Nichole & Zen Orchid!

Nichole, your range of reading looks like a great fit for our group! I personally don't read much nonfiction but we have a fairly active section for that. I love mysteries, classics & science fiction/fantasy best but have been reading more literary fiction the last few years in an attempt to broaden my horizons :/

Hi, I am Andrew a retired Chartered Accountant living in Gloucestershire in the UK. I read widely but my main interests are science fiction and fantasy, literary fiction, history and biography, classics and lgbt fiction and non fiction. I like the mix of books on the group bookshelve and look forward to joining in with some of the group reads.

When I joined the group I did not know that Greg was one of the moderators. I know Greg from another Goodreads group and I look forward to exchanging comments with him here.
