I know where you're coming from Laura:). Ever since the age of 9, I was translating English to my Italian parents in Australia, who in the 1950s, didn't speak English well enough!! This 'activity' developed into a profitable career for me because I've been translating and interpreting professionally for over 30 years......wow, what a trip!!:)

My dad passed away in 1988. Sometimes, I still think he is still alive and waiting for me to meet up and have a talk over a hot coffee.
You don't realize what a parent means to you until you see those empty chairs where they once used to sit:(
I'm from Egypt and I'm a student in Alexandria faculty of medicine. I've been in goodreads for years and lately I was thinking of joining a book club to discuss literature. So I was searching for a book club and i just found out tgat there are book clubs here in goodreads. This is actually my first time to join an online book club and I hope I have fun with you all and we become friends :D

I'm a translator as well! Actually, as usual in public entities in Italy, I do all there is to do - as for instance checking the timetables of all my collegues here at the Department Cultural Activities. But my role should be that of translator!

Hello! I've just joined the group...I live near Lake Garda and I have been an avid reader for many years...but I have not read that much lately due to family and work commitments....I so need to get back in to reading so hopefully joining the group will help me achieve my goal...happy new year to all! Hi everyone! My name is Mars and I have been a member of Goodreads for several years, but find that signing on "for just a minute" often turns in to an hour or more. So, I thought I would look for a group that would help me to focus my reading just a little bit more, and this one seems to be both full of interesting people and literature. :) I hope to expand my bookshelves (there can never be too many, right?) and also my discussions with fellow booklovers. Generally, I tend to stick to fantasy/sci-fi and classics, but I will give anything in print a try. I am looking forward to reading and talking with you!
Welcome Sarah! The Lago di Garda is really beautiful; I was there last year in May at Desensano.
And Welcome Mrs Mars!
And Welcome Mrs Mars!
Welcome Mars - I am also a an of fantasy/sci-fi & classics; look forward to exchanging titles with you!

Nuria - you asked "I'm a bit lost as of which subgroup to join, which theme to follow?
Can you help?"
That is a hard question to answer but probably the best place ..."
Hi everyone! I'm Alice, joined goodreads last year and quickly became addicted. I have always loved to read but struggled to find the time in recent years. However since moving to London 1.5 years ago I have found the silver lining of my daily commute - reading time!
I enjoy many different kinds of books (although tend to struggle a bit more with non-fiction and classics) and looking forward to taking part in some of the group reads here!
Welcome Alice! My commute is my main reading time now too - I think if I find a job much closer, I'll actually be a bit sad.
I'm Joan, not much else to say except that I really like the Monday poem thread and I am looking forward to discussions of short stories.

A warm welcome Joan! And feel free to sign up to share a Monday Poem sometime if you haven't already. It's a fun way to share a poem you enjoy with the group, and we always love it when more people sign up!

Welcome Joan! I have been reading a fair amount of short stories over the past few years so would be happy to see someone discuss them in our book chat.

Hi All! My name is Lori, I live in New Jersey, USA and I love to read. I have always wanted to join a Book Club but just have never had the time to attend meetings. So, I thought joining an online group might be the answer. I'm looking forward to our reading adventures.
Welcome Amit & Lori! Amit, be aware that we have a very strict no self-promotion policy (which includes blogs) but we are happy to have you chat about books you are reading.
Hi everyone , I'm Debz and I live in Bath UK - not been on Gooreads for long but I am enjoying challenges and reading others reviews.. always happy to make new friends too.:)
Welcome to all the newbies. And Debz since you live in Bath it struck me to wonder what people there say of Chaucer's the Wife of Bath. :-P
