Hello everyone!I'm Autumn and I'm here because I love books and talking about books. Fantasy is my preferred genre, but I'll really read anything. From J.K Rowling to Jane Austen, my reading has a very wide spectrum. I also do quite a bit of writing

Welcome Paul! The problem here is that in a year or two your library will be so "expanded" that youo'd whish a day of 36 hours and a week of 10 days to be able not to finish it, but at least to see the end of it!!!

Hello! I followed a couple of people in from another group, but have been quietly observing & getting a feel for the group (it's carnivalesque in the best way -- so many people, so many themes and threads; it takes a while to find focus!)I live in NYC, working for a performing arts venue (happy to see a folder for plays here!), but grew up and went to college in MN and still consider myself a Midwesterner at heart. I obviously love reading and have been checking books off lists as far back as I can remember. I currently am favoring the 1001-books-to-read list, but more and more often am distracted by all the new literature in translation and/or by "minority" voices.

Some of us have been in this group from the start, and still we don't find focus - or maybe it's that the focus moves!
I think 'carnivalesque' is a great description of AAB. I think one of the group 's big strengths is its international membership. There's little chance of remaining insular here!
Hello! I have just joined the group and this is my first comment. I have been in goodreads for ashort time, Since now I actually used it only to keep track of my readings, but now I would like to meet people to share opinions and get recommendations.I mostly read in English though my mother tongue is Catalan. I also read in French from time to time. I live in Granollers, nearby Barcelona.
I suffer from insomnia, so reading is for me a survival tool in the long, lonely hours I'm awake while the rest are sleeping. I love fiction of many kinds: English, American and European classics and modern, crime, books about families and relationships (how to classify that?), long Indian sagas...To say a few names: Dickens, Rushdie, Garcia Márquez, Mankell, Nabokov...maybe also lately Peter May, Anne Tyler...well, this is an impossible list and, as someone said, a bit carnivalesque?
I'm a bit lost as of which subgroup to join, which theme to follow?

That is a hard question to answer but probably the best place to start in my opinion is the Book Chat threads "What are you reading" and "What have you just read?" Not only can you share your reading but can hear about and comment on what others are reading as well. We are a friendly group so don't feel shy about adding in your 2¢ (as we say in the U.S.).
I also like classics and crime so I am sure we will find a few books in common!

Hello All. I'm Karen and I've been a member of this group for a while , but have never participated. My formerly vigorous reading habit has dwindled following a cross-country move and return to full-time work, but I am resolved to read more this year. Hello, first-time poster Patrick Murtha here, hailing from Queretaro, Mexico, where I teach English in my semi-retirement. I'm 58, single, a graduate of Yale (BA in American Studies) and Boston University (Master of Arts in Teaching). I read widely in the classics, literary fiction, crime fiction, history, you name it. I always have a lot of books going at once.

My father could speack English, but made fun of us kids loving England and English Language. So once we had a friend from London at our house who used to say "dive in" for the food we had at table. After that he kept on saying it with a mispronunciation that was all his!!!! My father was a real joker ...I still miss him and his boutades after 23 years

I'm Diane and I've been a part of the group for a while now, but have been "lurking." I thought this would be a good day to say hello. I'm a native Texan and live in a small town (pop. 1,500) in north-central Texas. My main interest is mysteries, primarily classic or vintage ones, though I also read history, biographies, and 19th century novels (especially Dickens).
Diane, I am also new here, and I like your enthusiasms (because I share them). What vintage mystery writers do you especially enjoy? I am a big fan of Rex Stout and Ellery Queen, but of course there are so many writers I have yet to explore.
My favorites are Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, Phoebe Atwood Taylor, Clayton Rawson, and Ellis Peters, but I also enjoy Catherine Aird, Ellery Queen, Mignon Eberhart, John Rhode, E. R. Punshon, and Leo Bruce. I'm planning to read Wednesday the Rabbi Got Wet by Harry Kemelman next. I enjoyed the first book in the series quite a bit.
Thanks for the recommendations! I have read some Christie, in addition to Stout and Queen, but although I am aware of the other authors you mention, I haven't read them yet. I'm reading the Nero Wolfe series in publication order and have gotten through When There's a Will, with Black Orchids next in line.
