Welcome / Member Introductions
I'm a library assistant from Raleigh NC. I am an avid reader who always reads several books at one time (depending on what I am in the mood to read at the moment). I have books at home, on my phone, on my nook and in the tote bag I carry to work so i am never without a book when I need one and would love to have more time in a day to read those books.

Hi Julia. I'm in Anchorage. There is plenty of room so come on up. June and July can be spectacular if you have never been here. Twenty hours of daylight can turn a one-week vacation into a two-week vacation. Well, one-and-a-half; you have to sleep sometime. :)

I hear you Ruth. Let's make a deal to send it all to the Southwest. They need the water!
Hello, I'm Jon from Massachusetts (but far away from Boston) in the USA. I just qualified for my first senior discount - a dollar off a hot dog, fries and a soda pop.I too read most fiction genres except horror, including "women's fiction" aka people's fiction and the odd compelling romance. Some non-fiction, usually history or contemporary social trends. Across most genres my preference is for books with female protagonists with what I've learned on GR to call "agency."
I have a phone that I can't master sufficiently to competently use as a phone that is chock full of audio and kindle ebooks. A great and always at hand portable shelf.
I haven't commented much in the 6 months or so I've been a group member, although I'm active in two other narrow genre groups. Here there seem to be so many members it is hard to sort wheat from chaff. I'll try to pay a bit more attention.
Welcome to all those who have recently joined! I'm Alice and I'm a Hong Kong native now living in British Columbia, Canada. I joined Goodreads in early 2014 and have been a member of this group since. I love to read and write and my favorite genres are classics, historical fiction and some non-fiction. I'm also a fan of Chinese history and Chinese poetry. This group has certainly broadened my horizons on reading and I have a hard time catching up on all the great books that group members rave about!
Hello everyone. I'm B and I used to be the token Australian here until Suzanne and Dale joined, hi you two. I've recently retired, was a Trust Accountant, love to read obviously, have a boxer and two cats, walk, swim, walk rescue dogs each day and, grudgingly, garden. I live on the beautiful south west coast of Victoria.I love all the threads we have in this group and love to participate. I write a daily thread called This Day in Literary History, see link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... Feel free to comment there if you have read any of the featured authors.
Hi. I'm Calvin. I think I already posted in another thread, but neglected to provide an intro. Anyway I'm from Ontario, Canada (a little bit outside Toronto). I had no idea people had such voracious appetites for books -- I've been chipping away at "1Q84" since August 2014, and only now am I at the halfway mark.Time to step my game up! Especially for the monthly readings.
Hello everyone! I've loved everything about Goodreads ever since joining up. Love everything that has anything to do with books, reading, and writing. Though there has never been a time in my life when I haven't read some book or article whenever there was even just a few free moments, I'm a bit off my "read" due to the loss of my husband just two weeks ago. I have faith, though, that my focus on reading will return when it's time. Once the the joy of reading is ingrained, it is there forever.
James wrote: "Have I introduced myself? I'm not sure, if I did.My names is James Patrick Joyce and I'm from Kingston, at the mouth of the St Lawrence River. I'm still settling in to GoodReads, for the most part."
Hi James, I'm from Watertown, NY. Spent many a happy time in Kingston. Did you go to the Writer's Fest?
@James, That certainly is some Christian and Surname you have to live up to! Do you read any James Joyce?
Hi everyone, This is Dilek, from Istanbul, Turkey. I love reading, obviously, but cannot find as much time as I wanted to. Still, I like to follow discussions, getting recommendations, and joining read-a-thons! Lovely idea by the way, read-a-thons :)
Hello everyone, I'm Diane from Charleston SC. Obviously, I love to read and discuss books. I'm already friends with some members from another group. A big thank you to Bette for the invitation.
Hello, everyone. My name is Ahmed Samer. I have 25 years old. I'm from Iraq. I'm teacher of English Language. And live with my family. . .
Ah, Ahmed. Teaching the English language with all the quirks is quite a task. You might consider taking a look at the Language and Grammar group. They have very friendly people who delight in helping others (me) with grammar and language questions.
I joined GR almost a year ago but have not participated as much as I would like! Thank you Gill for the email encouraging intros and re-intros. I live in Northern California with my husband and 8 year old chocolate lab. I work almost full time in the health field. I'm always trying to find more time to read, as many of you are as well. I really enjoy reading where you all are from. This is quite the unique community!
Maureen wrote: "Did you go to the Writer's Fest?"Not this time. Money was an issue, unfortunately. I plan to, next year.
B the BookAddict wrote: "That certainly is some Christian and Surname you have to live up to! Do you read any James Joyce? "
I was reading his poetry, when I was about 7 or 8, because someone thought it was cute to give it as a present. I was scared away from his prose, as a teen. I wasn't ready, for it.
The name has ensured that every teacher and every librarian I ever met always remembered me. For good, or ill. And that every, single one of them wanted to be the first to tell me that I had a famous name.
Jaytee wrote: "Thank you Gill for the email encouraging intros and re-intros."
Yes, thanks, Gill. Great idea.

Colleen from Lakeville, MN, USA - I joined GR in 2012 and have been an AAB member probably almost as long. Love the group's interactions an community. I'll read just about anything and am glad I'm super into reading again as I was a total child bookworm. I wish I would've kept a log of all the books I've ever read. Better now vs never. :)
Hi I am Cosmic Arcata. I am from Northern California. I joined Goodreads to talk about a different interpretation of The Catcher in the Rye. I started a group called Breaking The Code To The Catcher In The Rye. I love to read classics and study the symbols and read literary references inside books...it is like going on a treasure hunt. I have enjoyed reading Ulysses by James Joyce here in this group. Great book!https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

So great to hear from new and newly-posting members. It reminds me how great and diverse this group is! People from all walks of life coming together to talk books...so great :) I've said hi before, have been a member of the groups for a few years now. But for those of you who I've not chatted with, my name's Erica, I'm 27 and from the coolest little capital in the world -Wellington, New Zealand :)
Hi guys! I'm Esha from India. I'm still just a beginner in reading books, and thus for recommendations I joined this popular group with loads of members. I'm 16 and love YA books (mostly) fiction and every other genre written beautifully. Apart from books I'm a die-heart fan of Anime and official Otaku. *grins*
Katniss Everdeen & Mio Akiyama is role model; Rose Hathaway & Rangiku Matsumoto sarcasm+bravery+loyalty inspiration; fictional boyfriend- (Haha, so many actually) but currently Usui Takumi and Will Herondale; favourite fictional place Soul Society & Hogwarts.
It's lovely to see how many of you have posted here! A warm welcome to all of you, both the oldies and those who have just joined. Looking forward to some great discussions!
Hi everyone... I am Lale, from Istanbul, Turkey. I love reading, but I could not read as much as I would like. Goodreads and recently found those "read a thon" events really motivate me. Thanks to all. Let's keep reading and sharing. With my best...
Hi Everyone, I never imagined that when I joined Goodreads, I'd find such an incredibly smart and curious group of avid readers. Besides being a reader, I'm a writer, birdwatcher, and grandmother. I love to travel and immerse myself in other cultures, and nothing makes me happier than spending hours upon hours in the French or Spanish archives.
Glad to have you join Jaytee, Marylee, Lale, and most especially Esha. Erica, Colleen and Cosmic, nice to meet you; I'm quite new here myself (about 4 months).
Esha, there are so many wonderful, but imaginary, worlds, spellbinding characters and well told tales ahead of you. Enjoy.
Hello! My name is Adrianna (shortly Ada) and I live in Warsaw, Poland. Currently I am a psychology and sociology student which means a lot of reading, but mainly scientific stuff. As a way to distract myself and relax I watch a looot of movies and read, although not as much as I would like to. As a child I was a full-time bookworm (which caused some skinned knees and bruises because of reading while walking) and I would love to rediscover this part of me (maybe without bruises). As for favourites, I grew up on Harry Potter series and everything that Tolkien had written. I have a love/hate relationship with J.D. Salinger, I like F.S. Fitzgerald, F. Dostoyevsky, C.S. Lewis, Milan Kundera and probably many more authors that I can't think of right now. For my guilty pleasures I read YA novels. I also have a pretty big collection of Polish authors that I enjoy, if anyone is interested in broading their horizons ;)
I am a part of this group for some time but was too busy to participate actively. Gill's message encouraged me to introduce myself. Nice to meet you, such a colourful, diverse people :)
First, I want to say thanks for all the great books I've discovered while lurking. I'm a stay-at-home mom of three. I homeschool two of them and the oldest is in college and about to start nursing school soon. (He's 17 and we're waiting for him to turn 18.) In my spare time I write MG/YA books, but I'm not published. Obviously.
I read over 400 books a year and will read anything but erotica. I own about 12,000 books (including children's books) and have read all but about 500.
Another hello to everybody new and old who has posted here recently!
And a hello to anybody else reading who hasn't posted!

@Adrianna I see from your profile picture that you're a dog owner. We have lots of pet/animal lovers here and often get into long chats about our pets. Until recently I had two boxers, now just the one, he's very spoiled and since his mate died, he's been a bit of a 'nancy boy' (a wuss).
Hello to everyone, it's been really nice hearing from you all. So many interesting people from all around the world. I think it's great!

Hello! I'm S from Malaysia. Im a writer of two short stories on Amazon. I also love to read fantasy but finding the time to read could be a challenge to me.
@ B theBookAddict Oh yes, it is my old friend, Frida, the cutest dachshund ever :) I am a crazy dog-lover. In the future I'm planning to have a big, big house to gather as many dogs as I can :) there is nothing better in life than a good book, hot tea and a warm furry body sleeping next to me (I meant my dog) ;)
Hello all! I am from Michigan. I live in the country and work as a software engineer in Lansing for the State of Michigan. I have a teen son and am recently remarried as well. My home is very busy. I enjoy listening to books while at work and while in transit. I enjoy reading as well but that takes a back seat to other activities all too often.
