Hello! My name is Melissa. I am 35 years old and live in Minnesota. I am married to the love of my life, Bruce, and we have a 17 year old son, Ryan, who recently left the nest to start his life journey and we miss him terribly! I am also "mom" to the grouchiest cat in the world, Gus, and an extremely spoiled miniature schnauzer, Max.I love to read from many different genres on either my Kindle or a good old fashioned book (who doesn't love the smell of the pages of a book??) I just finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and just started A King of Infinite Space by Tyler Dilts. I look forward to meeting all of you and creating new friendships with other booklovers!

Leslie - I am rather play illiterate and open to almost anything. I've requested the group's fall read (Moliere) from the library.
Mmars, doesn't sound like a bad way to go! I find Moliere's plays very entertaining reads. I can't remember which one we're reading as a group at the moment. Tartuffe is highly enjoyable.

Chip wrote: "and maybe recommend a good dystopian novel (as i don't read alot of them and would like to)..."I think a lot of us would love to recommend some! There's actually a thread in this group about dystopian books - you could find some titles in there.
I personally can recommend:
The Handmaid's Tale
Oryx and Crake
Never Let Me Go
1984
Animal Farm
I'm also new to Goodreads, haha, so It will probably take me a couple weeks to get used to it (: I'm very into fiction and fantasy, stuff like that so do you guys have any recommendations for me? I've read Harry Potter 3 times, read Percy Jackson twice, I'm waiting for the final book to come out in the Heroes of Olympus series. I just finished the Maze Runner, and I just placed the order for The Scorch Trials, the Kill Order, and the Death Cure. If you guys have any recommendations for books like those

I'm new! Hi everyone! I'm so excited about this group :D
Hi everyone,I am a marketing professional from Toronto, Canada and have loved reading since I was a child. I read in English, Spanish and French. When I am very busy at work I tend to read a lot of non-fiction trade books and popular thrillers, but when the workload permits and on vacation I read literature. I alternate between English, Spanish and French, but in the past two years I've been reading less French and more English lit.
At the moment I'm reading La Fiesta del Chivo [The Feast of the Goat] by Mario Vargas Llosa.
I'm new to Goodreads and excited about joining this group!
Wow, Johanna, you read in three languages? That's impressive! Welcome to the group and hope you'll enjoy it here!A big warm welcome to all other new members who have just joined! Nice to meet you!

Wow so many new members!! Nice to meet all of you. Welcome to AAB. See you (or your avatar at least) around.
Hi! I'm Kelsey, and I live in Louisiana. I read mainly fiction, but I also like a good memoir too. I'm currently reading California. Besides reading I collect antiques (including old books), coach a college dance team, and teach yoga. Look forward to chatting with ya'll!
Wow! So many new members! Welcome to everyone who has just joined, looking forward to chatting about books with you all!
Hi there! I'm Mari, and I'm new to the group. I live in South Florida. I'm here because I love to read, and love meeting people with the same passion. I read all kinds of books. Subject matter isn't important to me, as long as the book is good! I have travel time to work, so I like to listen to audiobooks in my travels. Other times I read before bed on on my lunch break at work. I'm presently doing a chunkster year long challenge with another group, so I've been up to my ears in books longer than 500 pgs. It's been fun, but I'm definitely looking forward to some shorter ones. Thanks for including me in your group, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Hi Mari! A whole year of chunksters wow! I love chunksters, but can certainly understand the desire for some quicker reads now. Welcome : )
Kelsey wrote: "coach a college dance team"That sounds fun! I used to teach dance myself :) Welcome to the group!
HI everyone - I'm Cheryl, from Nova Scotia, Canada. Fairly new to goodreads and loving it! I enjoy mystery and crime (esp. British but wherever really), humour, historical etc. Just put a short ebook of humours essays on kindle and am working on more. Reading the Bedlam Detective right now, and can't recommend it enough. It's a historical crime/mystery/psychological/supernatural mash up that's really well written.
Looking forward to expanding my horizons based on the discussions and recommendations here.
Hi everyone! My name is Colleen and I live in Brooklyn. I love reading, linguistics, and writing so much that I dedicated my college career to it, graduating in 2005 with 3 bachelors degrees in English Language, Literature and Writing. It didn't do much to help me get a job that I love but it did make me more obsessed with reading and writing. Haha. I am a writer (well, I work at an engineering firm but in my own eyes I am a writer) and am currently working on a children's series and hope to get started on some adult fiction too. I am also completely, hopelessly, dangerously obsessed with reading. I read constantly (multiple books at the same time) and also collect books. It has gotten to the point where my husband and I are considering moving out of the city so we can get a bigger place where I can fit more bookshelves (I think he is getting sick on the piles of books stacked around the house). Sooooo I figured this would be the perfect place for me. :-)
Hi, I'm Heather and I'm from the UK... The one thing you should know about me is I love reading! But I guess we all do & that's why we're here! I lead a busy life, working strange hours so I don't always get the time that I wish I had to read but when I do I try to read as many different types of books as possible although I do end up falling back to my favourite genre of crime!
I'm always looking for new and exciting authors to discover, so any recommendations please send then my way!
Oooh, another Heather! Hi, I'm also from the UK.
Welcome and also welcome to the other new members

Hi Everyone, I'm excited to be a part of a group that shares the same passions as me. I love books and love to write in journal. I live in Maine. I am excited to have more me time to do my passion as my last child is now a freshman in college. So looking forward to see what this group is all about.
Hello everyone! My name is Maria. I have been a meet of goodreads for quite some time now but haven't really gotten involved with the community as of yet. So I'm giving book clubs a shot! I really love reading although finding the time is rather difficult. I always make big goals and long reading lists but it seems that it may be a miracle if I get through even a single book. But that's okay. I do what I can with the time that I have :) I used to read many young adult and fantasy novels but as of late I have fallen I. Love with mystery, thriller, and suspense novels. I am always looking for new material and would love to hear author or book suggestions. Thanks for letting me join the group. Happy page turning :)
Hello everyone!! My name is Jodie and I live in Maryland, USA. I love to read and have loved reading since I was a child. I can spend hours in a bookstore looking through books until I find ones that will interest me, or until my husband or children drag me out, either way I end up with a purchase. I buy more books than I can read and have a stack I'm working on. I work full time as a registered nurse and then I come home to be mom so I don't get to read as much as I want to. I joined this group to chat with people who love to read and also to get ideas of various books, as I love to read any type of book!!
Welcome Cheryl, Colleen, Heather, Lori, Maria – where are you from? Such an Italian name!- and Jodie. What a fruitful night!!! Jump in in any discussion that allures you!!!
Hello. My name is Geoff. I am a high school teacher who lives in Sydney, Australia. I was here on Goodreads about a year ago but had a 'purge' of internet social networks and disappeared for a while. I have been operating in stealth mode since January but I just updated my profile and thought I should introduce myself.
It has been a great reading year for me. Two days ago I finished 'The Bone Clocks' which is the twenty-fifth novel I've read this year. I love a good yarn. A well written narrative with a good, strong heart moves me beyond words and David Mitchell has a knack for writing such stories. Two weeks spent steadily working through a story that stretches over sixty-years makes me feel like I'm living many lives at once. Wondrous.
Please have a look at my profile and read my biographical notes and if I seem like the kind of person you might find entertaining, send me a friend request and I will be happy to connect.
Happy reading. I'm about to start 'Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage'.
Respectfully yours etc...

Welcome Geoff! I gathered from your profile that you teach English? The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell is sitting in my bookshelf patiently waiting to be read, and your comment on The Bone Clocks made me fingers itch a little. I loved the Cloud Atlas. Confusing as it was.
I am on my Australian portion of a little literary trip around the world, which I'll be kicking of with Breath by Tim Winton. If an author or book comes to mind that you think is unavoidable I'd be glad to hear.
Hope you'll enjoy it here!
Hi All,I am Ian, based in the North Yorkshire area of the UK. I work predominantly as a truck driver for a major UK televised haulage firm which allows me some free time on duty to write, a passion I have had for many years. My first novel has just been released and it has been a huge learning curve to write and publish. I should extend my thanks to readers who kindly gave me their opinions on the initial work and to experienced authors who gave me a few valuable tips. My next read waiting is called The 100 by another indie author and just flicking through the reviews for this book has me itching to start it. B

Hi Jenny! Your comment caught my eye because you mention The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet and I absolutely LOVE that book. I actually enjoyed it more than Cloud Atlas. I think he did a great job in Thousand Autumns of really transporting you to a different place. I just thought it was so beautifully written.
As for Bone Clocks, I ordered a copy from Amazon today and should have it by Monday so I am looking forward to that one.
Welcome Jeoffll and Ian. I'm afraid I don't know the book you mention Jenny, but your suggestions are usually great. I'll have to give a look
I guess it's time to introduce myself, since I've been throwing out comments. I'm a semi-curmudgeon desert rat who loves to play classical piano (because I can't improvise); read literature, science, anthrop-/archaeology; landscape; and give care. I recently broke my nose, sprained my wrist, and injured my knee on a mountain bike ride. I love reading comments and perspectives more than I do offering them, but I'm slowly and shyly getting the better of that little flaw. Cheers!
