Do you like him Genia?
I don't particularly love him. I find him presumtuous!

And YES I have a real new kitten, and a brand new house, in the city! Now It's time you come and see again!

Hope McCain (hopemccain) | 8 comments Hello! My name is Hope and I just self-published my second book. I slowed down a lot on my reading these past few months while I wrapped that up, but now I've got a little extra time to pick up a few books to read so I figured this is a good place for me to hang out. :)

message 1613: by Tonia (new)

Tonia Parronchi Hello, I am quite new to Goodreads but think it is a great site and since I live in Italy (Valdarno) thought this might be a good group to join and "meet" like-minded people. I am a writer as well as an avid reader and if anyone is interested they can look me up on the author page (do not want to risk self promotion so will leave it at that). Italy inspires my writing but I love reading all types of genre and am always glad of a recommendation for something new.

Hello Laura, I would love to meet up with you however, time is short right now as we are traveling over the winter, around Europe, and leaving around 23rd Sept. I am having a book launch party for "A Whisper on the Mediterranean" on 20th Sept (see author page for info) so if you are free that evening for and aperitif,it would be nice to meet you in person. A Whisper On The Mediterranean

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Tonia said "do not want to risk self promotion so will leave it at that"

Firstly, welcome Tonia! We are a very friendly group and the mods work very hard to keep it as a group of readers, without rancour. As a member, not a mod, I can perhaps ask you please to do exactly what you said. Your next post included the name of the current book you are promoting. Surely this could have been done in a pm to Laura?

Please do not take this the wrong way, but it is a strict rule. Very few groups on Goodreads now are solely for readers, or from the reading perspective, and it is increasingly hard for our mods to keep it this way.

message 1619: by Tonia (new)

Tonia Parronchi Sorry Jean, I thought it was a private message to Laura. As I said, I am struggling with the technical stuff. I only mentioned the book to her because she lived nearby. Is there a way I can send a private message to someone? I agree with you totally about how tiresome personal promotions become and my reason for joining the group was not for that motive at all. So, sorry if I have already messed up but I will learn!

When I go to Florence Tonia - which I do at least once a year I'll let you know.
And if ou happen to come to Perugia ... you know where to find me

message 1621: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) That's fine Tonia, and I'm glad you're not offended :)

To send someone a private message, click on their picture, top left of their posted comment. This gets you onto their profile page. Look under the box containing their details, and the first option you see is "send message". Click on this and you get the page for sending a personal message.

Mostly we chat within the group, but it can be quite useful :)

Thanks Jean! I had just managed to work that out after your last message. I think maybe the word "gormless" might fit me here :) I like the idea of this group. I presume most of us are either living in Italy or Italian. I am using Amazon a lot since usually the bookshops near here do not stock many books in English. What I am looking forward to is sharing experiences and books with others who are living similar lives.

Hello! I'm Laurie and I'm fairly new to Goodreads as well as this group. I'm a reader, writer and designer though I make no money from reading, sadly. I should probably become a beta reader because I do a helluva lot of it.

I used to prefer non-fiction but I'm getting tired of it and am looking to shift back to fiction. If anyone knows of any good contemporary, erotic/romance that isn't lame and doesn't have vampires in it PLEASE let me know. :)

Cheers!
- Laurie

Hello Charbel. I live in Italy but Africa is a fascinating place. I am reading a lovely book set in Africa now, called "Dance of Eagles" by Jo Holloway, which I can really recommend as an adventure written by an author who knows the landscape well, its beauty and its brutality.

Michael (micky74007) Hi. My name is Michael. Live in south Florida. I will read almost anything, except maybe directions and instructions. I write the occasional poem, less now then with I was younger and had more fire. Favorite authors are Debbie McComber,Maeve Binchy,Robert James WallerRobert B. Parker and
Clive Cussler .

my favorite poet is Walter McDonald out of west Texas.

message 1633: by Mmars (new)

Mmars I have been searching for a plays discussion group for a looong time and have finally found it in your book chat forum! Hope this helps me with a reading goal I have yet to meet - each month completing 1 play, 1 book of poetry, 1 book of fiction and 1 book of nonfiction.

message 1634: by Paulfozz (new)

Paulfozz | 1001 comments Hi. I used to be a member of Perks back in the day and I think I may have joined this group briefly afterwards (can't quite remember) but I've been on another group for some time and it's becoming heavily writer/promotion oriented so have been casting around for a more reader-based group to take part in.

I'm in the south-east of England and I'm mainly reading non-fiction at the moment; history, natural history, science, a little biography. I do read fiction too, though non-fiction is my current interest; fantasy, historical fiction, sci-fi, general… anything that grabs my attention really. I don't think my taste fitted with anyone in my other group though… I tended to end up talking to myself!

Sigh, yeah no one seems to have any good recommendations. I'm just going to have to invent the genre because it doesn't seem to exist. :)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Gill - Yes! I wasn't sure whether or not to say this, but Paulfozz is the only man who has ever changed his name for me! LOL! (Please don't run away Paul - I couldn't resist the joke!!)

I kept getting muddled up between the two Pauls, both of whom had very similar interests - Nature, wildlife, SF - and about an hour after I'd asked, Paulfozz changed his moniker "just like that" and asked me if it was any better :D

Ian Moore (httpgoodreadscomiandmoore) | 7 comments Hi Laurie, you might want to do a search on Erika Foxx books, she's an indie author that specialises in writing erotic books and short stories some of which are very good indeed. On the plus side, not a vampire, warewolf or goblin in sight. Enjoy, regards

@Mmars, I also try to read 1 or 2 plays a month (as well as "host" the group play discussion). Do you have any favorite playwrights or types of plays?
