Welcome Kat, Karen, Meera and Rebecka! It's great to have you in our group - and I hope you will find lots of new books and join in some of the discussions and group reads! But if you would just prefer to stay in the background, that's fine too!

Oh good, now I get to snoop around in your bookshelves some more!! Welcome Rebecka, nice to have you here!
Wellcome Rebecka and Meera!
And we don't want too many "profound ideas about the things" we read: we simply like to hear what you think!!!!

Welcome Rebecka! You don't need profound thoughts to discuss here (otherwise I would have little to say!).
Hello!I'm another newbie. I live in Russia and I just finished high school this year. I love learning languages and finding out about different cultures.
I've been crazy about reading ever since I was 6 years old. My mom would have to hide books from me because I would just read non-stop otherwise haha. I love books so much it's become my dream to work in a library or any place that has to do with books :)
I mostly read fiction, especially classics. Right now I'm reading a lot about mental disorders because it's just something I find fascinating.
Welcome Jakurino! If I'm right you're the frst russian here. Great thingto have more countries talking abut books and world literature
Thanks, everyone! And Jakurino, I am also interested in books on mental disorders! Have you read/heard of Sokolov's A School for Fools? (I read in Russian, but I'll use the English title in case anyone else here were to recognize it)
Ha, that one is high up on my TBR, did you enjoy it Rebecka? And Jakurino: welcome! I hope you'll enjoy it here. I see you are currently reading Catch 22? Have you made it past the crucial first 100 pages yet? (I always have the feeling people either abandon it before page 100 or end up loving it, there seems to be little space for indifference with this one :))
Hello to Kat, (I live in essex too) , Anand, Meera, Jakurino, and Karen (I know Cardiff well). You will find me commenting or adding stuff randomly here and there but I don't usually have time to keep up with many threads. Hope you all enjoy being part of this great group. Looking forward to seeing your comments.
Jenny wrote: "Ha, that one is high up on my TBR, did you enjoy it Rebecka?"Haven't read it yet, but I have it on my Kindle!
I've actually never heard of that book Rebecka but it just went straight to my TBR :) Thanks for the welcome, Jenny. I haven't made it to the 100 page mark yet but I love Catch-22 already. For some reason I enjoy feeling a bit confused while reading so it's perfect for me :D Now I'm going to have to get off the computer and get to page 100 because I'm very curious about what makes it so important o.o

Haha, oh no, now I've raised expectations! I am afraid nothing particular happens than, (well, something is AlWAYS happening with this book) it's just that by this point it seems people have either decided to give up, or they are loving it. (I have yet to meet someone who finished, but hated it)
@Rebecka, I'll ask again once you did! :)
Hello all! I'm Lindsay, I live in Ontario, Canada with my cat, Thomas, and more books than I have room for. My favourite book (to date) is Carsten Jensen's We, The Drowned. Although I am open to most genres of literature, I am partial to fiction while in university because I am doing enough reading of 'heavy' material.
Welcome Lindsay! I've never read that book, but it sounds interesting. And cats are one of the joys of life in my opinion - hooray for Thomas!
Wow, another bunch of new members! Hello to Anand, Kat, Meera, Karen, Rebecka, Jakurino and Lindsay. Welcome to the group and hope you'll enjoy it here!

Welcome Lindsay, I love your favourite book! It was one of these books I picked up by accident, because I was really intrigued by the title and because I felt a 'sea-longing'. Have you read another one by Jensen?

I haven't! The book store near me had a single copy of the one book, I picked it up to look at and ended up purchasing it. I read a number of reviews by people who thought that the middle of the book was dry but I found the story captivating.
I was recently given about sixty books from a coworker who was downsizing so I have plenty of material for the time being, but I would definitely read other novels by him.
WElcome Lindsay! The problem with the room for books is a common one here! I have to say that I've solved most of it with my ebook reader
Hello my fellow book-lovers! Owen Thomas here. Alaskan reader, author and recovering lawyer. I am looking forward to learning from your reading experiences and getting some good tips on great reads.
Welcome Owen! Do you really LIVE in Alaska? I don't think I could survive where for 6 months you berely see sun light. And don't tel me that for the other 6 is the reverse: I don't know whih is the worst!!! ;)
Yep. Lived here my whole life. The winters are definitely long and dark, but the summers are incredible. Daylight past midnight means that I get home from work at, say, 7:00 and I still have five hours of sunshine (assuming it is out). I live in Anchorage which is a lot more temperate than more northern reaches of the state. The midwest gets a lot colder than Anchorage. This is an AWESOME place to visit. You should come up in June or July.

Not really behind the corner, but I'm curious, I'll come as soon as I find the money!

Alaska is one of my favourite places in the world, but I don't think I could manage the dark winters. Staying in a small cabin in Denali National Park, and watching the sun set (very late) and Mount Denali, was absolutely amazing.
PS, Owen, in this group we are very strict about no self-promotion, so I'm not going to encourage you into it, but just to say I'm enjoying looking at your website.
Thanks very much, Gill. Please enjoy. Much more coming soon. And as for dark winters, I definitely know what you mean. The best way to live in Alaska is to have the ability to get on a plane and leave Alaska at the right time. Maui is a quick six hours away.

I moved "south" from there 17 years ago, but still make an annual "hot" pilgrimage every winter.

I'm here winter and summer, but during the winter I try to take two or three trips out to someplace with predictably warm weather (usually Hawaii and Arizona) for two to four weeks at a time. I end up taking a lot of flak from people at the office, but my sanity is on the line so there is only so much I can do.

Hello Everybody! Glad to join in. I am a broadcast producer and freelance journo from Pakistan. Do check out excerpt of my ebook - would love feedback. I like to read all sorts of books (fiction, non-fiction) but mostly I gravitate towards political, social subjects and mystery/true crime and classics. It's all a learning experience and I hope to learn quite a bit from you all too.
Welcome to this very global group Noorilhuda! I am sure we will all have a lot to learn from you too!
