Bailey Barbour | 365 comments @Shannon: No I haven't tried modern. What's it like? And I do like Sousa's marches. But my favorite composers are Gustavo Holst, Alfred Reed, John Williams, Howard Shore, and Hans Zimmer. But in high school we played a lot of Sam Hazo, Frank Ticheli, James Swearingen, and Robert W. Smith.

@Naomi: Hi Naomi! It's nice to meet you! It's kinda weird. I could get on a stage and dance in front of people for our recital, but I can't sing or like talk in front of people. But I want to change that though! I love the grace of Ballet, but tap is my favorite. I love the fast energy and excitement it has. And what are your favorite books???

message 1352: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Alice thank you! I will definitely check it out :)

message 1353: by Dhanaraj (last edited Jun 27, 2014 11:53PM) (new)

Dhanaraj Rajan | 2962 comments @ Bailey: John Williams is truly a giant. I love his compositions. I watched the film MUNICH many times and one reason among many others for watching multiple times was the music.

message 1354: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Yes I completely agree! My iPod is filled with his and Howard Shore's music (mostly Star Wars for JW, and Lord of the Rings/Hobbig for HS). But I don't think I've seen Munich. Have you seen The Cowboys or Saving Private Ryan? The music from them is some of my favorite by John Williams (though Star Wars is number 1 for me)

message 1355: by Dhanaraj (new)

Dhanaraj Rajan | 2962 comments I have seen Saving Private Ryan and the music is fantastic. Also his score in Memoirs of Geisha is also fantastic. I have to listen to The Cowboy. I will be hunting for it.

Welcome Milosz....Your name interests me more. Are you by any chance related to Czeslaw Milosz?

message 1358: by Milosz (new)

Milosz | 2 comments @Dhanaraj Haha, well not really related, my parents just picked his surname as my name since they like him a lot.
At least that's the official version :)

@Bailey & Dhanaraj: I love both the book and film of Memoirs of a Geisha. But I was so absorbed with the story that I didn't pay attention to the soundtrack :) Must watch the movie again!

Awww, I love music and I love it when I see people getting excited about it too! Do you guys like John Williams theme tune for Jurassic park? That's my favourite of his, so beautiful ;)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Yes I have that one on my IPod too. Plus the Harry Potter "Hedwig's Theme" and Indiana Jones themes. I hope he's doing the music for the new movie, Jurassic World. I'm excited for it, especially since it has Chris Pratt in it :)

Archaeology? Nice! What is your main focus? Like do you wanna work out in Egypt with the mummies or something else? And what is the studying and classes like? Do you get to do hands on stuff?

I graduated ages ago and specialied in medieval studies for my MA - loved it but life happened and I ended up not being able to pursue it as a career unfortunately. I did do excavations over the summer's while I was studying though the best one being a Palaeolithic cave site in Germany and I also got to work on Hadrian's wall which is not far from where I live :)

Great country. I hope to be visiting it sooner or later...

message 1378: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Me too I want to visit India and Thailand. I have an old high school friend who lives in Thailand. He was apart of the whole foreign exchange program and it was awesome to know him and to get to know his culture.

A Paleolithic cave sounds awesome! Lol your so lucky to get to work at Hadrians wall that's one of the history places of the world I want to go visit. *raises History Nerd flag with pride*

Laurel | 283 comments That looks good Dhanaraj - will have to get a copy.
Hope you make it over here Bailey! It's beautiful countryside and of course the Wall is a World Heritage site. I keep meaning to walk the whole length of it but haven't gotten round to it yet.

message 1382: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Yes that's what I want to do as well. Is it hard to find a archaeology job?

Laurel | 283 comments Bailey wrote: "Yes that's what I want to do as well. Is it hard to find a archaeology job?"

There's not a massive amount of jobs and you might have to be prepared to take short-term work and move around a bit at least at first, which I was unable/unwilling to do at the time. It's doable if you are interested enough - is it something you are wanting to get into Bailey? I wish I tried harder to get work in that field now instead of letting other stuff (people) keep me back but hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?

message 1385: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments It is one thing I'm interested in. I just would like to do something with history to be truthful.

message 1386: by Naomi (new)

Naomi | 8 comments @bailey- I totally relates! On stage, I can act and dance, but in real life- I'm a turtle! It's something I work on a daily basis. There are so many books that have stuck with me. It's hard to pick one! One of my new favorite authors is John Green, but after I finish Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five, I'm going to read Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie

message 1387: by Naomi (new)

Naomi | 8 comments @Bailey- what are your favorite books and what are you reading now?

message 1388: by Bailey (last edited Jun 29, 2014 08:55AM) (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Lol my mom even tells me sometimes I'm too quiet and that I need to get out there and make some trouble or something! Then I look at her like you want me to get...in trouble??? It's one of the funniest things. My favorite books are those written by J. R. R. Tolkien and Agatha Christie. My favorite book ever is Tolkien's The Hobbit. Other of my favorites are Christie's And Then There Were None, The Eragon series by Christopher Paolini, The Hunger Games, Vampire Academy series and it's spinoff Bloodlines series, Blue Bloods series, and just so many more! I have loved each book I've read. Well there is actually one book I've read that is the only book I don't like. Lord of the Flies. I had to read it in ninth grade and I didn't like it at all. But anyways, right now I'm reading Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. I'm in the second book, The Two Towers.

Kristina (klonk) Hey, everyone! My name is Kristina, I'm 27 and I'm from Sweden. I'm a preschool teacher, working with outdoor pedagogy - and I'm getting married two months from now, to the love of my life, and will become Mrs. Eyre! A good name for a reader like me! Right now I'm reading "Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson. Any questions? Ask away! I never know how to introduce myself!

message 1390: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Barbour | 365 comments Hello Kristina and welcome! Getting married must be exciting for you! It was for my brother, who got married back in October. It was a lovely wedding, and I hope yours will be too :) What is outdoor pedagogy though? I've never heard of it.

Welcome Kristina! Congratulations on your wedding! So, since you'll have such a famous surname soon, what did you think of Jane Eyre, the book? ;)

Welcome Kristina! And you're right Mrs Eyere is a great name for a reader like us!!!! Therefore double congratulations for your upcoming wedding!

message 1396: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Welcome to the group, Tawanai and Kristina!

@Kristina: Congrats and best wishes on your upcoming wedding! You're the third Swede I've met on Goodreads so far! The other two are from another group.

message 1397: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (klonk) Thank you, everyone!

Shannon Noel: I love "Jane Eyre". If I had a top five list, it would be on it, without a doubt. And my niece-in-law (or soon, at least) is called Jaine Eyre. They had no idea about the book though, for some reason.

Bailey: Outdoor pedagogy is a way of teaching that is about learning everything you can learn indoors, outdoors instead. Math, languages, science, music - everything can be taught outdoors. But we're inside as well, especially during winter - cause we do live in Sweden after all. :)

And, Jenny, I always have trouble to just pick a few. But I do love the Brontë sisters - and my all-time favorite book is "Wuthering Heights". I also have a fascination with African literature, since about seven years ago. So some favorites are Alain Mabanckou, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ondjaki, etc. But I am open for anything good - and have been on a streak with good books lately (Orphan Train, The Clan of the Cave Bear, Life After Life, etc).

Nice to be a part of the group!
