I read in the right order. The impact that I received after reading A Thousand Splendid Suns was greater than the impact of Kite Runner. It is anyway a subjective opinion.

That's very true, and they both impacted me, so glad I read them.
It depends on the way the book affects you....... sometimes you can relate to your own life. That is how opinions are made.
Hello everybody! I'm Chiara, I live in Italy and I'm new on GR. I haven't quite mastered it yet, but I'm working on it! From what I have read here and there in the group discussions, this group is really interesting and engaging (right word?) I'm going to join the discussion about Middlesex, which is one of my favourite books ever and I was just meaning to read it again!

Hi dely! I live near Pavia, and as you can see I'm still struggling with this technology! The app crashed and when I reopened it I sent the comment again! Grrrr! I can't figure out how to delete comments... But nevermind, so everybody can see I'm a total nerd!

It happens a bit in England, can't think of any examples currently though. (I'm sure Jean can come up with some Yorkshire surnames for us though!)
Ooo a challenge! Well off the top of my head I like "Shufflebottom" although it turns out that that is a Lancashire name, not Yorkshire. And another friend in Yorkshire is called "Godbehere", which I love! "Hope" - again I thought this was Yorkshire but it turns out to be seems to be Scottish after all. "Arkwright" and "Tattersall" are also both Lancashire names. Funny that I'm coming up with those since Yorkshire, not Lancashire, is the biggest county in England!

Silly me, of course my own surname is Yorkshire! Also there are names of places such as "Hallam". Another I've remembered is "Atkinson"."Brontë" by the way is not Yorkshire, but a complete invention by the socially ambitious father, whose real name was "Prunty", which is Irish.
Where are my manners?! Welcome Chiaraluce - what a beautiful name! :) I hope you enjoy this group and join in where you feel inspired to.

The taramelli of the scientific high school in Pavia was my great grand grand father, the geologist. His son was a famous archeologist, who studied, first in Italy, the "Nuraghe", some preistoric contructions present in Sardinia, the home land of my mother!

William Smith, who is known as The Father of English Geology, lived in/near Scarborough (where I live) for many years in the mid19Th century.

Laura -I got quite excited about that :) but find I don't have a sample after all - nothing between talc and tectite. What type of mineral is it? What "family" is it in?

Chiara is a quite common name in Italy, at least so in my family: my grandmother's name was Chiara, and I have several cousins with that and similar names: Annachiara, Mariachiara etc ...

My name is Gigi.I describe myself as a Fiction Fanatic because, although my reading tastes vary, mostly I love the art of fiction.
My passion for reading has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother was a passionate reader who read to me every night until I learned to read on my own. I remember begging my Mama for Little Golden Books at the grocery store (remember those?) every week and asking for books for Christmas and birthdays gifts.
As a school-aged child I spent every weekend at the old library in my small Midwestern city. When I first came home from college I took a job as a sales clerk at the local private bookstore where I swear I spent almost every penny I made on books!
Now due to a car accident, I have eye problems (from a damaged retina) so I no longer purchase books but read everything on my Kindle e-Reader. At first it was hard making that change but my love for reading was far greater than my feelings of loss so I overcame it. I still love browsing bookstores because it is just too difficult to give up the pleasure of holding a book, turning the pages and just the smell of a book.
I use Goodreads as a kind of ‘life list’, trying to remember all the books I have read throughout my life. There are so many that I have forgotten but as I read others’ reviews they jog my memory.
I have joined the All About Books group in hopes of finding recommendations for titles and authors that I would have overlooked.
