message 1018: by Danyel (new)

Danyel (dpme) | 8 comments Hello everybody, I'm Danyel. I'm a college student from Dallas, and am happily returning to Goodreads from a long hiatus. My favorites are all kinds of romance, fantasy, and historical fiction. And I'm just recently moving more toward classic short stories.

Fun fact: Though I'm of the "born with a computer in hand" generation, this is my first ever intro post to a group. Seems fitting that it'd be a group about my life's long obsession with books!

message 1019: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Hi Danyel! Nice to meet you. Hope you enjoy this group - we read all sorts of things :)

message 1025: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Hi, I'm Alice from Vancouver Canada (born and grew up in Hong Kong). I've been searching for groups with an interest in classics and historical fiction and, bingo, I've found one!

I'm a semi-retiree now and am enjoying my freedom to do all the reading I want. Of particular interest to me are translated French classics of the 19th century, but I like all classics. I also enjoy writing and have thus far written one non-fiction book and one novel set in Hong Kong.

Nice to meet you all!

message 1026: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Hey Alice welcome to the group! Enjoy your stay. I moderate a classic book club here on gr called Tattered Tales so feel free to join us. We try to read a classic book a month as our group read.

message 1027: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Thanks so much, Amber. I would love to join Tattered Tales.

Welcome Alice! I am trying to focus on French classics this year - feel free to join me for any that take your fancy :) I just started The Red and the Black by Stendhal today.

message 1030: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Kendall (akendall) | 22 comments Then you must like Victor Hugo ^^

message 1031: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Victor Hugo is my favorite author, not only for his writings, but also for the socially conscious and righteous man that he was! He is my kind of hero!

Yes, I have. I loved it but I preferred A Thousand Splendid Suns whereas everyone I spoke to preferred the Kite Runner.

message 1045: by Ankita (new)

Ankita Sinha Even I want to read the other two books....A lot of people say that each book is better than the previous one........ So I am actually awaiting two more treats...:)

Yes, but which did you read first? They were both great books, but for me, The Kite Runner was the better, but it may just have been because I read it first.
