Hi there, my book-buddy:) So you're back in 40F, what a bummer. "26C here" she says smugly:)

Glad to see you here Bette. All my envy though: I'm in my late 40s and won't be able to retier for other 20 years minimum!!! I've always said that Australia is my dream land!!!

It is pretty amazing but when you live here, you get used to it. Although I am an early riser, I bless each day the alarm clock doesn't force me out of bed.

Welcome Caro! I am glad to have another member join in my Lymond readalong :-) Hopefully you will find lots of other things to enjoy in the group as well...

I've been a member for quite some time, but haven't really posted on here just yet. I only thought it would be appropriate if I did so first.
My name is Suzan, I'm 22 years old and I'm from the Netherlands. I'm a student of English language and culture hoping to graduate this year. I'm also hoping to be doing a master's degree in English literature.
I'm very excited to be reading and discussing books with you guys :)

I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys and experiencing some awesome books together.

Welcome Caro, Suzanne and Daniel!
This is the right place to be in of you need some friends to ralk about books - or to read along long series of novels!!!

I'm 40, married and have 2 kids (son Yannick = 8, daughter Annika = 5). I work a few days a week in a bookshop (since 2 years, before that I worked in the small post-office which was inside the same shop - I've done that 12 years).
When I'm not busy with work, household (yuk...) or my children, I mostly read (historical) novels, thrillers, and classics. My challenge for this year is 64 books (last year I read 54), among which at least 35 classics - books written before 1930 something (so far I've read 15).

Well, I've just recently start to discover those. I've read a classic which sets on Mars (A Princess of Mars and one of its sequels The Gods of Mars) I really enjoyed those (to my surprise)! I'll at least have to read the next one in the series (the series is called Barsoom), because The Gods of Mars has an open ending.
I don't know if you consider The Chronicles of Narnia or the Harry Potter - series as fantasy (probably, come to think of it) - I really loved those. So your and my reading are even more similar!
(In fact, I've just looked: it's 71 % ;)...).

I read the first Edgar Rice Burroughs last year but didn't continue with the series (so many other books to read!). I was a little surprised that he wrote sci fi as I had known as the author of the Tarzan books. Did you know that his hometown changed its name to Tarzana in his honor?

No, I didn't know that! Thats funny! I downloaded a few Tarzan books, but didn't read them yet. I didn't know there where so many of them!
Welcome Elsbeth. Did I miss it or you didn't tell where you're from? I'm so curious!!!
We try to read one classic every two months, so give a look at that discussion if you like novles published before 1930! We are about to start Persuasion

No, you're right, I didn't tell you where I'm from...
I live in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, just a few kilometres from Germany.
I read Persuasion in january and really loved it (better than Emma, which I read last month. I just like Anne better than Emma ;).
I like L.M. Montgomery, too. One of my challenges for the coming 3 months is to finish some series, among which Anne of Green Gables. I think I read 3 or 4 of that serie. Still 2 or 3 more.

I love Neijmegen! I had friends living there - now they're in Antwerp. And as you say Persuasion is definitly better than Emma, but don't say it to critics!
