can anyone tell me what book I'm supposed to read to start with, I'm finding the site a little difficult to use
christine

Christine: Feel free to pick and mix from group reads, seasonal playwright and poet or any of the readalongs.
We are currently reading:
The Golden Notebook for Fiction and
Nightmare Abbey by Peacock as our Classic group read, both of which you can find in the Group Read Section where you will also find our seasonal playwright Tom Stoppard
For Non-Fiction we are reading:
I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High by Tony Danza and
A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel which you will find in the Non Fiction Section
+ we have our seasonal poetAnna Akhmatova in the Monday Poem Section
Just join in with whatever appeals to you most, or simply take your time and look through our threads and tell us about the books you are currently reading.
And if you have a question, feel free to ask anytime!

Welcome Christine! The Group books are shown on the group's home page, or as Amber suggested, you can scan the discussion threads, or you can look at the group bookcase to see what is on the currently-reading shelf. Now that you are a group member, you will also get email reminders of what the group books are about once a month (unless you chose to turn off that feature in your profile).
Feel free to read as many or as few of the group books as you wish! We also have a lot of readalongs, which is where two or more people decide to read a book together.
The group might seem intimidating at first but we are a friendly (and chatty!) bunch. You may want to start with Book Chat - 'Fiction - What are you reading?' or 'Nonfiction - What are you reading?' if that is your preference... or just join in General Discussion - 'General Chit-Chat'. Well, we would be happy to see you post in any of the discussions, so spend a little time looking around & then jump in :)

Bonita

The chat threads are one of the easiest way in, I think, especially if nothing takes your fancy at the moment. You can always start a conversation there about what you're reading too :)
Welcome Bonita and Christine! I sincerely hope you'll fin some book you like to readvalong with us, or just chat a little to begin with

Welcome Ch..."
Thanks for your comments. How do I join a readalong with a small group as I find the amount of participants a little overwhelming.

Hi Strawb, just comment as and when you like on any of the discussion threads - it's all very informal and friendly. If you just want to say whether you liked the book or not, that's fine too.

And to anybody who has recently joined: this group has grown quite a bit over the last few month and we know there's a lot going on, but like Shirley has already said: we are a very friendly, informal bunch, so please don't feel shy to enter into any of the ongoing discussions or to ask a question if you loose orientation.
Glad to have you aboard!

Just look through the Readalong folder (about halfway down the list of Discussion topics, or you can follow this link) and see what books people are reading, or you can post in the 'Would anyone like to join me' thread if you have a specific book you would like to read.
If you see a book that you are interested in, just post in the thread to introduce yourself...

For those who don't know me, my name is Clare and it's very nice to meet you all :)
Nice to have you around Clare!!!

Welcome Brenda! 20 books a week is an amazing rate! Hope you will be patient with us slower readers ;)

Not really, but at the moment I'm moving into a new house and I've plenty of other things to arrange without a nee job! Let's hope for this coming year.

Welcome Brenda
The house is really great! The only "problem" is that we have 3 big bedrooms and I've lost my kids:before they were always in ourvliving room, now each in his room!!!

I bet that the kids are liking that!
