Hello all! I am back from vacation, tan and bugbitten from hiking and kayaking in Maine U.S. with a pile of books that didn't get read...I mostly read mysteries, historical fiction, and classics; however, about a year ago when I joined GoodReads, I started trying to read more widely. Toward that goal, I am trying to read books from the Guardian's list of 1000 Novels Everyone Should Read:

Hi everyone! I'm Heather, junior doctor in Hull, UK. I enjoy books, talking about books and thinking about books. In my spare time from work my other interests are running, cycling and going to the pub!

So happy to welcome the first two members!
Alexandra and Susan, we hope you'll feel at home with us. Just stroll around and see what we think, tell us what you think, and what we could do to improve things here.

Hi Everyone. Nice to see everyone here. This already seems like a lovely group. I'm Gemma. I live in Worcesrershire with my Fiancé, baby and crazy dog. We are getting married in September, so this year with planning that, and a baby I have not read nearly half of what I have liked. I enjoy reading reviews though and discovering new books.
Hi, I'm Paul. I live in the beautiful county of Dorset, and have no cats, and three children. I am a prolific reader, tending towards travel, science and all other types of non fiction as well as science fiction and some fantasy. I am trying to read more fiction and will give most things a go. Feel free to add me as a friend.

Welcome Vanessa! We all hope we'll feel as much at home as before!
Since you like classics, what do you think of coming along with me in my reading the last novel of Dickens?

Hello all - I've been soooo looking forward to the unveiling of this new group! It looks just my cup of tea with the planned reads, and has a great upbeat feel already. You can sense all the excitement just brimming up.I'm a retired (sight problems) deputy head teacher, married, always had lots of pets including a manic border collie, cats, guinea pigs en masse....very varied reading tastes so I love to hear about any new to me.
Hello, I'm Charbel. I'm university student from lebanon. I started reading when I was twelve and haven't stopped since. I enjoy fiction and science books, but I' ll read anything that's interesting.

Hi everyone! I'm Jo, I live in the UK. I adore reading and I will give anything a go. I'm one of the horrible people that judges a books by its cover, I'm a bit like a magpie in this respect if its sparkly I want it :). I hardly ever abandon a book and I'm on a mission to rescue mistreated books :) and I have a hatred of bending the spines on books it makes me wince when I see people doing it. Also folding the pages of a book to make a bookmark makes me sad:( Finally I have an obsession with bookmarks, I have about 150 of them but the fun thing is that I only use one I don't change them lol. I can't wait to get to know everyone the group is going to be awesome!
Welcome Jo. I suspect that, at least in part, we all judge books by their covers.
And sometimes it can be a big mistake!!!!
