Currently reading the last of Margaret Atwood's Madd Addam trilogy. Reading them back to back because they're well written, intriguing and frightening. She's an Orwell for our times.

Oh my - I have 10 of the newest books that were just published yesterday and somehow were already at my library. I began The Quest by Nelson DeMille last night but today I picked up Sister Mother, Husband Dog etc. by Delia Ephron, sister of the wonderful Nora Ephron and writing partner. I expect to finish this book tonight and then will continue reading The Quest. I am also listening to a memoir of Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove, of his selling antiquarian books and those books he loved over the last 70 years.
I am currently reading
by Saul Bellow,
byGeorge Eliot, and I am starting
by Franz Kafka and I am planning on joining in on you November read as well whatever it may be! So far both The Victim and Daniel Deronda have been great and both have been intellectually challenging.
I'm reading Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder. She's one of my favorites, I just wish she had made this a Chronicles of Ixia series instead. =/
I'm new to this! Hope I get it right :)I am currently reading Pretty little liars by Sara Shepard. This is my first time reading a book like this as I'm usually stuck on fantasy/Scifi. I'm about 87% complete and I'm addicted.
But I must add; for those of you reading Vampire Academy, it is my all time favorite series! For me it got better and better. Even the spin off series Bloodlines is great!!!

Really? I really liked Sydney, but still, I am a little hesitant. Do we see some characters from VA?
Idk how to reply lol sorry.Yes actually Adrian is a main character as well as Eddie, and Jill. Dimitri and Rose make appearances in the first couple of books, and so does Abe, and Sandra. It's just a continuation with a different name, and main character. Sydney becomes much more likable, and relatable.

just klick on "reply" it's on the right, under the comment you want to reply to ;)
hmm..you really got me there. I love Adrian and Syndey. Best characters in VA! I think, I'll give it a try! (because I really want to know, (view spoiler)
I only post from mobile lol so I don't have a reply button. As for the books they're worth it. The 4th book in the Bloodlines series, The Fiery Heart, is set to come out November 13th I believe, and it's supposed to be from Adrian's perspective.
I am about to finish Necesssary Lies by Diane Chamberlain which was quite good. Not sure what I will read next. I need to begin returning my library books since we are leaving for a long rip and I don't want anything to be overdue.
I finished Mr. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. It was meh. I enjoyed bits and pieces and, overall, glad I read it...but I probably won't be reading much more of his stuff. His tangents wore me out. I am starting Thérèse Raquin and The Golem and the Jinni on audio.
MaddAddam, not enjoying the story of Zeb as much as I enjoyed the first two books in the trilogy. Will have to put down for a while, have a 2 week lend of The Silver Star from the library. I'm not a speed reader, so I like to give myself time.
LaLaLa Laura wrote: "Tessa, I haven't read the book but I hear it's uplifting. let me know what you think."
So, I finished Eat Pray Love. It was a nice read. I really like the first part of the book, the "Eat" part. I had a little struggles with the "pray" part and than again enjoyed the "love" part. All in all, Elisabth Gilbert writes nice, easy to read and really funny. But at the end, maybe Im just not old enough (or should I say grown-up?) to really get the spirit of the book.
And than I read
and I was absolutly irritated at how one can butcher such a lovely book to such a bad movie!
Just finished The Silver Star, not the most original story but decent character development and good pacing. Finished it last night.
I am still reading The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. I've also begun reading Middlemarch by George Eliot on iBooks app.
I have read only one chapter. It seems to be alright. I need to read a couple of chapters more to have a better opinion. It is another chunkster. So, I will have read three chunksters this year after finishing The Pickwick Papers (784 pages) and Middlemarch (904 pages) along with Anna Karenina.
Jen ƸӜƷ wrote: "Just finished The Silver Star, not the most original story but decent character development and good pacing. Wasn't as fond of The Glass Castle and even less enamored when it came to Silver Star.
LaLaLa Laura wrote: "what is it about Nancy"Tells the tale of a young man who has grown up in an orphanage and sets out to find his mother.
I am beginning Jhumpa Lahiri's new book The Lowland. Loved her previous books especially The Namesake.

Good to know, I'll check out Half Broke Horses. Thanks :)

I just finished The Giver, (so lovely written! This story took my heart!) but I think I will take my time with the second one. I read, that Lois Lowry is exploring her world more, but with different characters. And since I do love the ones from The Giver so much, I have to let it "cool off" little, so I don't get disappointed.
Next will be
. I quite enjoyed The Silver Linings, so I excited for this one. But I only will be starting this one tomorrow..or the day after.
Just finished reading Songs of Willow Frost and 95% of the book was so very sad that I'm not sure how this book will be thought of in light of The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I did give this a B+ rating.I am trying to be very strategic about my reading right now. I am reading The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri from the library and expect to finish it this week. I have also changed my reserves to account for the fact that I won't be able to pick up any books for a couple of weeks. I deleted my books which I am number 1 on the reserve list and am also returning my other library books since I won't have enough time for them now.
I began listening to Sisterland this afte4rnoon but am unsure if I will listen to all of this since reviews were so mixed. That's one of the problems of reading reviews although I keep saying I won't read them anymore.
Tessa wrote: "And now Im about to start
. Can't believe I missed this for so long.."I just finished reading this for the first time the other week, too! I'd heard so many good things about it, but never actually got around to reading it but I enjoyed it a lot.
I started the second one, but so far it's failed to keep my attention. It...different than The Giver, and I am not too fond of the world or the story. Apparently, the third book isn't all that great either but the fourth (and final) is a little better. Not sure I'll finish the quartet, though.
I am really having an anxiety attack over my current reads and listens.I a trying to finish up on my library books before I leave so I am currently listening to Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfield and reading Gone by James Patterson from the library an also reading Good in bed By Jennifer Weiner on my I PAD and for a challenge. I also have The Lowlands by Jhumpa Lahiri here from the library and also A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout which is a true story of her kidnapping in Somalia for 440 days. The last two books I will either download or reserve again.
Cathy wrote: "Tessa wrote: "And now Im about to start

I never read the 3 books she wrote which are related to The Giver but never knew why. Now I think it might be as Cathy wrote that the next titles doesn't move her and because The Giver was so perfect to me that I don't want to go on and be disappointed.
hey Nancy! don't stress too much over it. just trade what you can. enjoy it and look forward to that vacation! it's
all good!
all good!

Than, maybe, I shouldn't read the other book. The Giver was so perfect and I don't want to destroy thas memory..But luckily Im reading such an amazing book right now, I takes my mind off "Gathering Blue". :)
There was a time when I only read one book at a time. But with the advent of e books and my enjoying audio books I now read three at a time. Each serves a purpose in my life. The e reader is good at night when my husband is sleeping, the audio is good for car rides and when I'm doing things in the house and library books are good since I can borrow some titles that I may not want to read in the end avoiding the cost of downloading them. But I sometimes wonder if I'm doing justice to the books as I read them. If I would get more out of them if I read one at a time and really concentrated on them. And now I often have a book downloaded and then come cross the audio so I am doing both at the same time which speeds up my reading but costs me money for the e read which is kind of silly.

by the wonderful, wonderful, wonderful Matthew Quick. I don't tend to get emotionally quickly, but when reading a book from Matthew Quick, there's always so much! I am so devastated and hurt, just by reading this story. But he always has this glimmer of hope near by..it's difficult to discribe. The writes so raw and honest. And yet so beautiful. I simply love his work! Sorry, I always go fangirling when thinking of him and his book..Anyone read "The Silver Linings Playbook"? He's just a master of his words..
I tried to read more than one book at a time. But Im not good at that. I get confused and than I get angry with myself and frustrated with the book..so I'll better stay with one book at a time!
Right now I'm trying to read Les Liaisons Dangereuses (and I started it) but there is always a book in the way haha It's a classic and I would at least like to be able to say : "Yeah, I know what it's talking about", maybe even talk about it with someone.
Tessa wrote:

Hahaha I may be the wrong to ask, because I say: YES! Best you start right now! ..but maybe I am a little subjective..so..But if you ever read it, tell me, how you liked it!
just finished the short story Afterward by Edith Wharton. I was reading it In the dark and found it very scary. I got chills!!

I agree Nancy. I only borrow books from the library because of the cost of having to download them. although since I read at night I find it harder to sit and read a paper book.

I'm reading Where'd You Go, Bernadette its been on my tbr list for awhile and it's actually due today at the library! I can't even renew it online cuz someone else has it on hold! I better get cracking
Finished listening to my recent book and also finished the two books I was reading. Now, I need to choose my next book which will be on my Kindle as we will be traveling. I mot likely will have to bring along one paperback in case I don't always have the opportunity to charge my I PAD.
The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic, my latest read for my F2F book club, which sadly I'm at the bottom of the waiting list to attend.
