Just finished And the Mountains Echoed which I absolutely LOVED and The Never List which I hated. Of course I probably judged it a little unfairly as nothing could have compared to And The Mountains Echoed. Also just took a quick trip to Portland to visit my daughter and I got to stop at Powell's :). Picked up The Light in the Ruins and A Marker to Measure Drift. Now am looking forward to spending the rest of my vacation with Chris Bohjalian :)
Just finished
. Blah! Not really my cup of tea. Gonna start
to tide me over until
comes out Tuesday.Happy reading all!

Chanda, I read
last year. It was my first time I've read Stephen King. It was quite good. Hope you enjoy it. Here's my review:http://kammbia1.wordpress.com/2012/07...

Nancy,
I'm enjoying the Adam Dalgliesh novels. P.D.James is a terrific writer. Thanks.

The Sparrow is definitely in my top five novels. I'm going to read the sequel, Children of God, in the next few weeks or so. I'm looking forward to getting back into that world.

Ok, I finished
. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm glad it's over. I have great respect for Nutting's skill at getting into the mind of a sociopath, but that's about the best I can say. I feel the need to go take a few showers.

After finishing
this morning I think I'll do some re-arranging. Next up was GOING to be
, but I think that might be a little too much sociopathy for one weekend. I just picked up
at the library - I think I'll go there instead.
Oh! I love We Have Always Lived in the Castle (by Shirley Jackson!) I listened to the audiobook edition and Bernadette Dunne nailed it, IMO! And, or course, The Haunting of Hill House, the quintessential haunted house story that I suspect is the actual mother of all haunted house stories that we are now familiar with. Hmmm, I have a collection of Shirley Jackson stories around here that I really should dig up! :-)
finished: The Boys in the Boat By Daniel Brown
unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
reading
the ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman
hope to read before end of August
room by Emma Donoghue

Ohhhh! Yay! I LOVED all of those books! Happy reading!
I just finished A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. I highly recommend it. I just started The Power and the Glory
Just finished
Where'd You Go, Bernadette by
Maria Semple. And started
Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi by
Geoff Dyer
Just finished The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. I liked it but not my favorite. Just started Annabel by Kathleen Winter.
I have just started Special Topics in Calamity Physics, it has been a bit slow so far, I hope it picks up soon.
Jane I thought the introduction was unreadable basically to make four or five points concerning the story.
Realized yesterday, 100 pages in, that I had already read
. Ugh! So I picked up a Goodreads giveaway —
. Hope to have it done by tomorrow! Can't wait for
!!Happy reading!!
I just finished Daniel Silva's The Kill Artist. I thought he did a good job developing the story and pacing the action. I also just finished the Shining by Stephen King. I had never read it and wanted to do so before King's new book comes out in September. I just started the Night Film this morning. I am not far into the book, but I am enjoying it. I heard about the interactive features on the podcast, so I did download the app and scanned the first two symbols. It does work on the ebook. I think it is a creative feature and did help make the notion that Cordova's films are dangerous seem more realistic.
Finished some Booktopia Petoskey novels and catching up on all the old BOTNS podcasts. Reading The Invisible Bridge - Ann's favorite novel of 2010 and its so amazing....in my top 5 books and I'm only halfway done!

I have finished a few books in the last week or so:
Firefly Lane - a quick and easy read about two friends that endure many hardships from childhood into adulthood.
Velva Jean Learns to Fly - an interesting book about the history of Women's Air Force Service Pilots (the first women to fly military air craft).
Child of God - a character sketch of a disturbed loner in the backwoods of Tennessee. Spare writing, but definitely creepy.
Everything Changes - a quick read about a man that has it all, but feels like something is missing and takes steps to make his life whole.I am now reading
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves.
I finished
and
.In March I started
but stopped reading it because I didn't want to know what was going to happen while watching the series on TV...but I'm back to reading it...and am loving every minute of it!
Finished up On the Road, and I picked up Big Sur to continue my Jack Kerouac education. It will have to be put on the back burner though, since Booktopia Petoskey is approaching rapidly and I have a stack of books I'd like to get through before then! To start, I'm reading The Dog Stars and I've just downloaded The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat on audio!
Lisa-I just finished A Storm of Swords....I have only seen Season 1 of the series .....the book was great but it took me most of the summer to read it!! Enjoy!
I'm having a great week, reading NOS4A2 during the day and The Cuckoo's Calling at nighttime. I tried reading NOS4A2 at night but got too spooked! Thoroughly enjoying both books.
About 60 pages into
. And hmmm ... I just don't know yet. Is it going anywhere? Does it need to? But the writing is wonderful enough to keep me reading...
Becky wrote: "Lisa-I just finished A Storm of Swords....I have only seen Season 1 of the series .....the book was great but it took me most of the summer to read it!! Enjoy!"I'm reading it nice and slow so it lasts longer. Just like eating an ice cream cone! haha!
Reading The Secret History which I have been planning to read for years and I finally got nudged by the upcoming release of The Goldfinch. I'm on vacation in Vancouver B.C. so have to balance reading with sightseeing.

Just finished listening to TRANSATLANTIC.Good but not great story however not a great recording and not a great narration.
Hi y'allI just finished Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight and found it a good read-for me it was a page turner as I was eager to see things unfold and the relationships of the daughter (Amelia), even though I found I was frustrated at the mother (Kate) every step of the way. Now I'm reading The Humans by Matt Haig and Ex-Heroes by Peter Cilnes-both are great but different so far.
I have had
in the back of my mind for a long time so I am returning to the master and downloading it today on Audible.

Read 250 pages of Lonesome Dove! Put it down, just temporarily, to move onto Pure by Julianna Baggott -- a book I've been wanting to read for more than a year.
I will return to Lonesome Dove, but I"m not sure when. So much I want to read that I saved for vacation ... I need another month off!

I am again overwhelmed with library ebooks! I have all of the following from the library right now:
- I'm enjoying this a lot.
- probably will return this and try it again in the future
- maybe same with this one
The last 4 I haven't started yet. I'm having such good luck with the library recently.

I Loved [bookcover:The Age of Miracles|12401556]
In honor of his passing, I've decided to read
.I have not read an Elmore Leonard novel before and this story was recommended to me as one of his best non-crime fiction novels.

FYI, deleted a message from KyleB ... he raved about a book in a way that sounded a bit odd to me, so I looked into his profile and saw that he joined this group and several others just before posting similar messages to all of them about this one book. He also posted in multiple threads in this group about the book. And the only messages he posted on any GR groups was promoting that book. So I'm calling it spam, and deleted the message.
