Also, in our defense, it's not really our fault that a new member joins toward the end of the month and the group read is almost over. It does stink, but it's certainly not done on purpose, and i don't see how we can plan for that. The thread begins when it is posted, which is the beginning of the month.
However, I hope that you'll both be please to know that we are doing our group read differently from now on, by posting the upcoming read an entire month in advance. That way, members have a month to see what is coming up, find it and read it. Then when the discussion thread is posted, discussion can begin right away.
And Liz, to be honest, the enthusiasm is something that varies greatly from month to month. I have had months where I post in depth discussion questions in hopes to stir things up & got no response.
Anyhoo, said all that to say that I hope the new way works out better for everyone. There's still time to post on this thread, so if you'd like to share your thoughts, please do :)

Rachel & Shannah, I'm glad it wasn't just me! There was just all of this build up and then...nothing. I wanted some kind of showdown, lol, something with more excitement than a mildly heated discussion. I guess I just didn't need him in the story to enjoy it.

I agree with most of you about the romance being a little rushed. There was no "ah-ha" moment when Tim realized he was in love with Sydney.
I have to disagree with some of the opinions I've read about the spiritual aspect of the story. (view spoiler)[I think Tim did a good job when he though Sydney was a man in showing her his faith. He was open and honest and plain speaking like most men were in those time. I think he got tripped up on how to act when he found out Syndey was a woman, so it took her pointing out to him that he was narrow-minded for him to realize his problem and correct it. (hide spoiler)]
I also agree with the part about the villian. That story did not feel hashed out or well connected. The ending was very anticlimatic. (view spoiler)[If Hume truly wanted to marry this girl and spent the vast amount of money to find her, he shouldn't have given up so easily. (hide spoiler)].
Overall, though, I loved this book. It is one of my favorites!
