"A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures. There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan, Korea and other East Asian countries"

"The jinn (also spelled djinn), or genies, are spiritual creatures mentioned in the Qur'an and other Islamic texts who inhabit an unseen world in dimensions beyond the visible universe of humans. Together, the jinn, humans and angels make up the three sapient creations of God. The Qur'an mentions that the jinn are made of a smokeless and "scorching fire",[1] but also physical in nature, being able to interact physically with people and objects and likewise be acted upon.[clarification needed][2] Like human beings, the jinn can also be good, evil, or neutrally benevolent and hence have freewill like humans and unlike angels. The jinn are mentioned frequently in the Qurʾan"

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 8 comments I grew up with djinn mythologies in South Asia and I have written a couple of stories featuring them because they are so fascinating.

While a lot of people equate djinns to the Qur'an, the mythology actually existed in pre-Islamic times in the Middle East and parts of Africa. They are very much nature spirits -- they can create sandstorms, travel through the air, and are often associated with waters and oceans (as well as other elements).
