New version of It?
Angie wrote: "I read about this. Maybe the modern version will have better CGI. "I would hope so...The Sci Fi channel has marginally better CGI :)
"IT" wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't a great fit in the parameters of a 4-hour miniseries, with the available technology of the 80s--plus some of the issues about the children in general did not make for American television family viewing. But yeah, I would approve an improved IT.
I thought the cast was all wrong, and that ruins it all for me. I just re-read the book, and it's so great! I really hope the new interpretation will work out. And I hope they make it really unsuitable for american television family viewing! ;-)
I thought I read somewhere that the timeline is updated (not 50's through 80's) which might make for alot of achronomical shuffling.
Yeah that's the problem with well known actors. Whenever someone gets killed, the viewer always go, 'aaah, he gonna be all right. I will see him later on Night Court or Three's Company.' That's why it is a good idea to use unknown actors for horrors.
A lot of live action King movies don't translate well to the screen, BIG or small... Can't say it's true of Misery or Rita Hayworth & the 'Shawshank Redemption' or The Body (Stand by Me)I hated that title by the way but the Movie made up for it.
Now 'THE SHINING'.. the live-action version was much scarier than the book & who can hate Jack Nicholson? He totally made the movie.

I'm excited for this to come out. I heard the news a couple months ago, and personally I can't wait. I loved the book, but the TV miniseries (which I watched in 2001 for the first time) just did not do it for me. The effects were cheesy and since it was a made-for-tv thing, way too much stuff was cut out and it just didn't do the book justice.
Trying to watch the miniseries after reading the book it's hard not to notice the truck size plot-holes.
I always wanted to see Tim Burton direct a straight horror movie. This one would be perfect in my opinion. Just wishful thinking for the record.
the book was amazing, the mini series was a joke compared to the book, in all honesty if they remake it and do it justice im all for it
I always liked the mini-series, cheesy as it was:) But wouldn't mind seeing a remake....I also heard they may be remaking "Carrie" as well.
No. I read the book and it was good. I never watched the miniseries, but it looks kind of dumb. It might be an OK miniseries, but I think they should just not make it into one in case it ruins the book. But ya never know.
The script is being written by David Kajganich. He was chosen by Warner Brothers and is also writing a reboot of The Stand and Pet Cemetery. Ben Affleck is also attached as director to the Stand. http://collider.com/matt-damon-drama-...

Christopher wrote: "There is no way they could do a good adaptation of IT in 2 hours."I totally agree. They would have to leave out soooo much! It would have to be at least 3 but closer to 4 in my opinion.
Breaking news: SyFy is currently working on an adaptation of The Eyes of the Dragon. Interesting.http://discordia19.squarespace.com/ma...

Really? That's interesting. Scary too, I don't want it messed up it's one of my fave books ever.
the best sceene in it was the shower sceene where pennywise came out of the drain best special effect of all time for the period. now john ritter was fantastic in it. has any one gotten the new 25th anniversry edition of the book yet.
Timothy wrote: "the best sceene in it was the shower sceene where pennywise came out of the drain best special effect of all time for the period. now john ritter was fantastic in it. has any one gotten the new 25t..."I agree that was a fantastic scene. Pennywise always use to scare me to death!
If they do the remake, then I hope they put in the House on Neibolt Street, the Smoke Hole, The Ritual of Chud, The Black Spot, Patrick Hockstetter, Pennywise in the guises he used in the book (mummy, creature from black lagoon, frankenstein, two drowned boys, giant bird, wolfman, and the decomposed leper), add the history of Derry, oh and put in a cameo of Dick Halloran,is that too much to ask.
Agree about the smokehole. I would love to see a big screen adaptation of their visions showing the coming of IT. Also want to see the few scenes that are from ITs point of view. Want to see how they realize ITs a girl and is trying to lay eggs, so much was left out of the miniseries.
I absolutely hate clowns, the book was really good, disturbing. I hate the film, Tim Curry is a very convincing cannabalist clown, I can get certain scenes from the book/film out of my head..
Trent wrote: "Never know who thought we could get a better joker"Ehh I don't know if we got a better Joker, we got a new take on the Joker. Jack Nicholson nailed the performance as the Joker. The Joker changed throughout time, and Ledger reflected these changes through his anarchistic portrayal of the character. Pennywise will always be pennywise, unless King writes a new book to change his/her qualities around.

"It " will always go down as one of the scariest books ever written. While the screen adaptation was cheesey it still was close enough to the book to give me a few nightmares. I for one am o.k with them leaving this project alone. For the record though I thought iit was a great book!
I think that all concerning to special effects can be improved, so we and all new generation can watch King's great imagination in all its greatness and detail.Personally i think that would be great, these days we can make much better effects that back then, when the movie was being made. Seriously that would be great!!
I still can't believe they took one of the creepiest stories ever written down to make it into a watered-down TV movie.
Hopefully, this time it won't have plot-holes big enough to drive trucks through. Very noticeable if you've read the book.
How about getting Peter Jackson to do it, LOTR style??.. When I say LOTR style, I mean 2/3 movies back-to-back with all the actors together for a year or two and throw some bloody money at it!... Not like a fantasy obviously.. After all Peter Jackson has made horror films before and he knows how to respect a brilliant, epic novel.... I would really love to see a great adaptation of 'It', there's no novel more deserving of it.... Just a thought anyway!... :)
The thing about an adaptation of It is, you really can't have just one movie (with an acceptable running length of 90-150 minutes). It would really have to be a 3-4 hour long movie. Not to say I would be unhappy with that (if it was executed well), but it would be no easy feat to pull off for the studio.I personally will see this thing. I really enjoy the miniseries, even though it's clearly inferior to the novel in every aspect. I would definitely be open to seeing an interesting take on the book.
I, however, do not hope they cast a bunch of well-known actors. Quite frankly, the more well-known an actor is, the less people will see them as that character (especially if they're already type-cast as someone else). It works for T.V. movies, sure. I liked Pierce Brosnan as Mike Noonan in Bag of Bones (even though nearly the entire time I was thinking of Goldeneye). Horror is often scariest when we know the actors less.
Also, I think the miniseries missed the boat. While this actress was already somewhat typecast for her role in another show, I think Gates McFadden (known for her work as Beverly Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation) would have been a much better Beverly Marsh.
Although I probably think that because it's simply who I always pictured in the novel.
I will stand by the original make of"IT" till the end of time. The movie was done perfect and though I am excited for a remake, I love the Tim Curry version way too much. I feel like all the scary movies from the 80's to early 90's had the most creepy vibes. If Tim Curry doesn't play Pennywise, then they should just hang it up.
I would like one as scary as the book. I didn't think the original lived up to it.
Has anyone posted this?http://www.thewrap.com/cary-fukunaga-...
Cary Fukunaga is out as the director of New Line’s two-part adaptation of Stephen King‘s “It,” which will not move forward as planned this summer and has been pushed indefinitely, multiple individuals familiar with the situation have told TheWrap.
... “True Detective” director Fukunaga repeatedly clashed with the studio and did not want to compromise his artistic vision in the wake of budget cuts that were recently demanded by New Line, which greenlit the first film at $30 million.
... Another source indicated that New Line was getting cold feet about the project in the wake of the less-than-stellar opening of “Poltergeist,” which featured a clown in its marketing materials.
... It’s unclear whether New Line will hire a new director to immediately take over the project or go back to the drawing board for an entirely new approach, but one insider told TheWrap that “It” was dead as currently constituted. A studio insider acknowledged the film has been pushed indefinitely but did not go into the specifics of Fukunaga’s exit.
Also New Line wanted one movie, whilst Fukunaga wanted two.
Absolutely gutted about this news as Fukunaga was one of the reasons I was hyped for this (True Detective). :(
Looks like the project is dead - again.
Oh, and Stephen King tweeted this:Stephen King @StephenKing
The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry.
Haha. :-)

I'm leaning towards optimism here, since the first attempt was so ghastly. I mean, it can't get any worse, right? They should at least be able to come up with a better cast in my opinion.
Any thoughts on this?
